HE’S A JOURNO! American Football Fan experiences EURO 2024 VIBES - ENGLAND V SERBIA

- Don't take me home! Leave me in Gelsenkirchen with the lousy transport, the 5 euro pretzels, and the lovely England and Serbia fans and the Euro 2024 vibes. What a day! I felt so welcomed as an American soccer fan. This has been on my bucket list for 20 years! To see a match at the Euros, to experience the prematch party and banter, to sing the songs, to feel the excitement on the pitch.
In this video, you won't find a Serbia - England fight, but you will find a heartfelt match reaction, highlights, and some of the postmatch that you can't find on tv! The pundits weren't waiting with us for the trams up to 90 minutes AFTER the match.
Brilliant stadium, top quality players on the field from Europe's best leagues, and especially Jude Bellingham, one of the top players in the world right now. And he bagged the only goal of the match!
Despite 8 hours of travel (that should only have been about 4), it was a magical football matchday full of laughs and new friends. I am so grateful for the opportunity. I learned some new football songs and even reveled in some American soccer chants as well LOL!
I loved the randomness as well - people from all over the world coming together with their personal histories, wild stories, and simple passion for the beautiful game that brought them all together on one fine evening in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on June 16, 2024.
This was Day 3 of the Euros - be sure to check out our other videos to get the full Euro 2024 adventure with Because Football!

Your emotions when you walk up them steps and see the green grass never gets old. You should come too anfield bro. I can hook you up
Definitely shed a tear off camera mate. It was unbelievable. And I will 100% take advantage of that offer to visit Anfield mate. That would be a dream!!!
FYI: All UEFA EURO 2024 tickets include travel to and from the event by public transport. 😂
Haha I know but I unfortunately I purchased my match ticket AFTER the train ticket
Your pronuniciation of Gelsenkirchen is spot on! Well done!
Danke!! And thanks for watching! 😊
your german is really good!
Danke schön! Ich habe in der Schule und an der uni studiert. Danke für das Video gucken!
this is a decent experience. congrats to seeing it for the first time.
Cheers, Cole! Thanks for watching. I appreciate your time.
Great video!
Thanks for the kind words, Steve!
one of these days the England team will live up to the hype and their fans.
They should have an easier time achieving that than the Scottish team.
“Achieving is easier for England but Living up to the hype is harder. Achieving success is harder for Scotland but living up to the hype is easier.“ - (Football) Lao Tzu, probably
@@BecauseFootball_ the difference is, english hype is self made. By the team, the media and the fans. And then they end up booing their team off the field. There is no second gear.
Scottish fans have won our hearts by their good cheer, easy going attitude and sheer joy at being welcomed warmly.
No matter how their team plays, the Scots will always be favored over the English in Germany 🇩🇪
we consume more beer than the brits on average in germany! in that region you were going around, they have barely any small or local brewerys, the small brewerys never run out of beer, i can assure you!
Well the bars in the Gelsenkirchen innenstadt were not prepared on this day! Thanks for watching!
5:12 they fall for the rumors that English people drink their beer warm 😅
Hahaha maybe that’s what it was. They were just being hospitable 😂😂
Well done , a rough idea what the International fan has to go through ( without having to do it ) Come on England.
Cheers John! It was my hope to share a bit of the feeling and buzz around the place. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Great video, mate. Hope to attend my first euro match in 4 years time.
Highly recommend it, man! It was 20 years in the making for me. The games are great but it's really just the football spirit and camaraderie that is the best for me.
Me too
@@KylePrice-bd8ft make a plan and get to work, pal! You’ve got 4 years.
@@BecauseFootball_ just finished your video that logistics is not good glad you got too experience a game though coming clutch with a ticket hours before kick off. We had euros in England last time and I still didn’t go 🙈 up the England and safe travels buddy
Come too anfield mate 🙏
Top work 🦁
Cheers mate! Thanks for watching
Nice video, but the cuts ingame where not chronological. That was a little bit confusing. 😅 Greetings from Cologne 🎉 i hope you have a good time while the euro24 😊
Ah sorry that it was confusing. Thanks for watching anyway!!
We love Scotland it's just friendly rivalry if anyone had a go we'd be right at their side just like any of our Brit countries
Fair play mate. I'd say the Scots have been everyone's favorite here haha
Nice sentiment pal but we've got security sorted lol 🏴
What do you do if you need to pee or poo in those full crowded public transportations 😂
This is a great question. The answer is - you suffer lol.
You never asked them to name at least 3 players from the side.
I know they don't seem the brightest lol but I think they could have even managed 3 players. That's a low bar, even for an insult. Thanks for watching!
Hey! You were in Krefeld! Why didn't I see you? ;)
Just like for the guy with the GoPro haha. I will still be there a few more days, so maybe our paths will cross!
SCHALKE !!
Great stadium, nightmare transport system.
Interesting video top quality
Cheers Michael, thanks for watching! Greatly appreciated.

svi ko Turci izgledaju sa ovim frizurama.
I don't know about that but the fade seems to be a worldwide favorite right now. I'm feeling a bit left out of the crowd, honestly...thanks for watching!
Welcome to Gelsenkirchen, ugly city but the best football club in the world 💙🤍
Schaaaaaalke :D Was at the Arena opening in 2001
Eh I wouldn’t call it ugly 😊 Really loved the stadium though. Felt very close and intimate even with 60,000 people
why don't walk😂😂😂😂
I’m not sure what you mean. But thanks for watching!!
@@BecauseFootball_ why don't walk
@@Patrick-on2ty even farther and longer to walk!
@@BecauseFootball_ but waiting time. or get an e-scoter and hide it into the bushes for ur homeway ✌️
the transportation issues have not much to do with such regional- or local public transit under the condition of such a huge event (which are not better anywhere else). Germans should stop tell others permanently about this 'Deutsche Bahn' thing without explaining the differences (and also that even the Deutsche Bahn sucks due to high developed standards - not compared to many other countries in the world with much worse train systems and providers).
I know that there are different levels of train systems but even many Germans told me their disappointment with how the system has gotten worse over the past few years. But no one could really explain why. Even with all the problems, it’s still an elite system on a world level. Just far from what it used to be. Thanks for watching the video, hope you enjoyed it!
England fans: Everyone else is shit! Every other fanbase: We are party, we are great. Spot the difference 🤣
Didn't see that at all. Maybe you just like the English. Nothing wrong with that. But don't project your bs
I think there is a percentage of English fans who are like that but they’re not in this video. I think the English just feel a bit too much pressure to do well and it can affect the experience at times.
England are not up to standard
I would agree that their ceiling is much higher. Hopefully they'll find that breakthrough moment in the tournament to really let loose.
Americans that complain overseas always leave a weirdly bitter taste. Especially about PT 🤣
Don’t think a bitter taste is that weird, mate. Nobody really likes those. And I’d say I was comparing German public transport to my experiences with it over the past 15 years. Just had higher expectations based on those past experiences so I was disappointed to see that the standard has seemed to drop. Thanks for watching!
@@BecauseFootball_ Gelsenkirchen is one of the poorest areas in the whole of Germany. Considering the UEFA is making billions, paying little to no taxes and North-Rhine Westfalia as a state has 3 game locations to support for security and is the most densely populated are in the whole of Europe (Ruhrgebiet), I didn‘t expect the public transport to work any better than you showed.
Deutsche Bahn is a constant struggle for normal Germans on a regular Tuesday, …why should it work better on days like these?!
