Using the beautiful game as an excuse to explore
How Football Friendship Led to An Award-Winning Podcast | Ale and the Vale Podcast
If you are a diehard football fan and have ever thought about doing something MORE with that passion, this episode is a great listen for you! In Episode 28 of the Because Football Podcast, we sit down with two of the founding members of the Ale and the Vale Podcast, Jonny Hancock and Stu Kerby. The Ale and the Vale Podcast is a fan-driven project about Port Vale FC, a football club based in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, that is currently in League Two, the fourth tier of professional English football.
Self-described as "3 fans talking absolutely relatable rubbish that you will have heard at any game at Vale Park", the podcast was named League One podcast of the year by ‘TheRealEFL’ awards in 2023, outperforming the team's on-field performance by some length! The podcast has also led and participated in numerous fundraisers for the community, fostering more concrete benefits other than serving as a rallying voice for what's in the head of many Vale supporters from week to week.
What began as a way to stay connected with each other and with their club during the pandemic has now grown into a weekly (sometimes more frequent) podcast that not only gives a voice to local supporters of Port Vale, but has managed to foster a close alliance with the club itself. This relationship has allowed the podcast to authentically bridge both groups, interview club personnel such as the club owner, Carol Shanahan, and even players and managers. It's the type of access and interconnectedness that is difficult to find among the mainstream modern football of today, and is a reminder of how important clubs are to their local communities, not only on the pitch, but off of it.
During this chat, Jonny and Stu explain us to the different types of match day experiences for English football fans, from home to pub to stadium experiences, the magic of away days, and their criteria for what makes a "big club". It's the type of conversation that goes beyond a simple man on the street post-match interview you may have seen on other fan-driven social media channels. We hope it offers more insight into what draws people to "smaller" clubs at lower tiers of football, away from the spotlight of today's mega-clubs and untouchable superstar players.
They also give their opinions on the Wrexham project by American owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, offering a perspective from a smaller club without the miraculous cash injection that has led to the Welsh club's "fairytale" story. And, finally, we end the pod with a discussion about what football has meant to their lives, and they offer their "Because Football...." answers.
We thank Jonny and Stu for their time and sharing their story with us at Because Football. UTV!

AMAZING PREGAME / PREVIA - Argentina vs Chile Copa America Match
มุมมอง 8K14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
What a special moment it was for me to attend the Argentina vs Chile match at MetLife Stadium in New York (well, technically New Jersey) at Copa America 2024! The "previa" or pre-game celebration was incredible! Asado barbecue, Fernet con coca (cola), singing and chanting, huge crowds of Argentina fans "hinchas".... the perfect ingredients for an unbelievable matchday experience. And all of it ...
NO SCOTLAND NO PARTY! Scotland and Switzerland IN Cologne for Euro 2024

The Scots might not have the greatest team but their football fans are hard to beat! I just knew I had to experience the fan celebrations before their match with Switzerland at Euro 2024. I don't know if Germany has ever seen something like it, or ever will again! And I was warmly welcomed, first with a quizzical look "You're an American", then usually the question "football or soccer?!?!" and ...

EURO 2024 PARTY! Scottish, Albanian, European Football Fans Celebrate in Germany

Day 2 of the European Championships in Germany was an absolute treat! As an American soccer fan, ever since I was 14 years old, I've had dreams of celebrating the footy at a major international tournament. And this vision wasn't in the stadium, but in the town square. The plaza. The old town. Amongst the jubilant fans sharing food and pints of beer, proudly waving flags, hanging banners, and we...

BALLOON CLUB? Argentina’s most unique football team…perfect for soccer nerds

Football fans who love the unique and peculiar will love this video. And will find a home at Club Atletico Huracan. You asked what the flag said ( 16.42 ). " Going To Germany On My Wee Calf " It means he has the week off work or away from the wife etc. In English it would be " Going To Germany On My Week Off " and when said fast in Scottish it sounds like wee calf ). I hope that makes sense😅🤣

Beautiful message! Thank you for sharing.
200,000 Scottish fans drank 8,000,000 litres of beer in Munch, is the statistic I heard, but German beer is far better than we get in Scotland, I love the Haffeweisen
That's 16 million pints in one city, divided by 200 000 - that's 80 pints per person. Entirely believable
Apparently the Scots drunk Germany dry lol😂

I'm glad you liked our hometown, we were glad having you, the scots, the swiss and everybody else (except the Leverkusen guys in the end). It really is the best city in Germany 🔴⚪
Was soll der negative Satz gegen die Leverkusener? Ist total unnötig. Immer noch angepisst, dass Leverkusen das Double geholt hat, während Köln in die 2. Liga abgestiegen ist?
Thank you for hosting all of us! Wonderful city.

one of these days the England team will live up to the hype and their fans. They should have an easier time achieving that than the Scottish team.
“Achieving is easier for England but Living up to the hype is harder. Achieving success is harder for Scotland but living up to the hype is easier.“ - (Football) Lao Tzu, probably
@@BecauseFootball_ the difference is, english hype is self made. By the team, the media and the fans. And then they end up booing their team off the field. There is no second gear.
Scottish fans have won our hearts by their good cheer, easy going attitude and sheer joy at being welcomed warmly. No matter how their team plays, the Scots will always be favored over the English in Germany 🇩🇪
well you could argue that fast connections are usually more expensive than however many slow connections for the same distance.
In this specific case, the first flight was the same. ADDING two additional flights made it cheaper. That’s why it didn’t make sense to me.

Would be nice to see Scotland care a bit more about scoring goals, but glad they had fun
