Glad you're safe. I am absolutely devastated by Benji's loss. I saw his post when he uploaded it. Absolutely heartbreaking. His collection was immaculate!
I am glad that you addressed the fire's! It's been wild just watching it the news and I can't even imagine what it must feel like for those whose homes have burned down! On another note, I am glad that you are posting the downsizing process. I haven't seen a lot of folks doing that and it's great that you are sharing that!
I’m feeling so bad about the fires, I was born in Glendale (75 years ago) , grew up in Newport Beach and now live in ojai, carpinteria area. We are never immune to fires. The beauty of pacific palisades and the Altadena area is well known. Our memories, our safe space, our plants can be ripped away from us. Benji is one of the most creative people, it’s especially sad to hear about his loss. We went through the Thomas fire and it changed everything. There are so many stories about what can happen to anyone at any time. Our hearts go out to all of the people affected by this.
My heart goes out to everyone affected by the fires raging in LA. It goes out to you, too, you are always so genuine and cheerful, and seeing you so sad is heartbreaking. Thank you for sharing your vulnerability and your empathy for others with us. 💜
I have no words…I saw Benji’s upload shortly after he posted and my heart breaks for him and all that are affected by this. The people from the Carolinas are still trying to rebuild as well after their ordeal. It’s something you just can’t find words for. Praying for all victims, firefighters, police, medical staff etc. I had a small plant purge last week. I gave away 5 plants to a friend of mine that needed a pick me up, he went by my office to pick them up today and he was thrilled to continue to grow them. Hugs.
Really thoughtful, lovely video. I’ve been taking more time recently to stop and think about why I have each of my plants… sentimentality for a lot of the older ones. I suffered from propagation addiction last year- like you mentioned. Thanks for being so kind and chill. 🤗
I honestly can't even imagine the nightmare situation in California. Thoughts and prayers to all. I was really ambivalent about Krimson Queen. I love my Krimson Princesses so much, but I just wasn't as in to the Queen. I ended up finding one with really good variegation for really cheap and bought it. Then it got mealies, then I pretty much ruined its roots by going a little overboard trying to kill the mealies. It was a much smaller plant than yours. I took cuttings from some of the best variegated vines, rehydrated them, rooted them, and potted them up. It's actually doing really, really well now and I'm glad I saved what I did.
yeah, I thought about taking cuttings and restarting, but it's true. I'm luke warm on the actual plant. I just like it because it's so big and want to keep it that way. but it seems the roots are shot. decisions, decisions!
What an emotional week. I understand how trivial the "plant addiction" video must seem, and it's only important that *feel* that way. Our perception is irrelevant. My helpful advice on rehabbing your carnosa? If you really love it, throw that one out and buy a new one. If I've gotten better at anything regarding indoor gardening, it's giving up sooner. Like, what am I even doing trying to bring back the (almost) dead?? For me, anyway, it's less clutter in my head. Hang in there. You're doing great.
wise words again Dave! 💜 I am actually lukewarm about the krimson queen. I just mainly love how big the plant is, but if I have to restart it again, I'd rather not. 😵💫
I pray for a stop to the fires and for rebuilding lives. Making new memories and to rebuilding homes better than before. I love that you are so honest and in tune with the fact that we love our plant content but, it’s not our live. Thank you for being you.
I am so grateful you guys appreciate (and indulge me lol) adding some personal life stuff along with plant content. thank YOU for all the support, it means a lot 😊
I absolutely agree with your decision not to make a traditional plant video and to talk about losses in LA instead, including Benji’s. It’s normal and natural to feel the sadness of what’s still happening. 😢
The Krohniana silver might have root mealies. That usually may tell tell sign if they constantly look dehydrated. The Hoya Acha one might have flat mites.
To save your plant form bugs, I would submerge it in water, Alcohol, pure castile soap, and neem oil mixture. Keep it in the bathroom for at least a week and spray it with alcohol every day. After the plant soil drys out give it a thorough shower off and check for bugs.
I feel your emotions on the fires. I too saw Benji's post, very hard to even imagine where to start putting things back together. Thankfully he is ok and that is everything. My prayers are certainly going out to all those in California. I wish I lived near you, I would rob your bins. I really enjoy a good rehab project. I get it though. I have thrown out many plants that didn't give me joy. Thanks for the video always enjoy them❤❤
You are kind and sensitive and it makes me sad to see you upset. I cried my eyes out when I saw Benji's post. He strikes me as humble and grateful for all he had, not because he had it but, the care he took and the devotion he had to his plants and surroundings. He has a Go Fund Me, just search for his name along with Chris. They also started a fund for their neighbors. All his equipment was lost along with everything else. He has no livelihood now. Thanks to all that is good that they and their fur babies are ok. I am sure you know all this, I am saying this so others will know and help. I started a purge a week ago, my reasons are exactly the same as yours. I am also giving away about 10 or so grown plants and props. I don't know if you will remember but I found my Linearis had Mealies. I asked you about systemics and I ordered what you suggested about two weeks ago. I was reluctant to use it and even though I isolated the Linearis the damage was done. I will be treating 7 or so tomorrow on an "emergency" basis. I will use the systemic on many of my plants in the next week or so as a preventive. I wish you peace.
yes, I saw that too! so glad the community has been able to help him. and I do remember, I'm glad you decided to use systemic! it works wonders so hopefully your mealy problem will be resolved soon. 💜
I poured straight peroxide into the soil saturating it at the time the plant needs watering. Then sprayed the plant top with neem the germex hand sanitizer orange oil and a few drops of dish soap and water. I had several types of plants I tried this on and none of my plants suffered with the treatment and the mealies are gone.
I have a Hoya Krimson Queen that has gotten Mealybugs and I haven't given up yet. I regularly but it in my sink and bathes it in water that is warm to the touch for about 15 minuts. After that I spray it in Castille soap- alchohol and water mixture. It works but it takes time :)
castille soap and alcohol sounds like it would be effective. I do second the granules, that's what I used in the past. it got rid of the mealies in a couple weeks. but if you can't get ahold of them, keep doing what works 😊
@ it’s been 100% alcohol that I’m using. I’ve heard that the mix with castille soap in it needs to be rinsed off cause it collects in the joints and crevices suffocating the plant.
I saw that vid too.. Made me so sad for all the people who are going through that Imagine leaving your house with just some clothes (not a lot) and your pets… and then coming back to literally nothing.. a chimney and a pile of rubble.. that must be so devastating Such a good start.. things that need rehab or have been in rehab for a long time that you really don’t feel like they will do well soon can be such a mental weight. It is actually possible to reroot a larger Hoya if they have more succulent leaves. I accidentally destroyed the roots of a bunch of my Hoyas with my first root mealy treatment a couple of years back. That was like kerrii’s, heushkeliana variegated, carnosa, wayettii variegated, australis Lisa.. those kind of plants. They all grew new roots as full plants. The krohniana silver took a bit longer and I ended up putting it in the grow tent where it rerooted itself. I took it back out of there when the leaves weren’t wrinkly anymore and the plant started growing. Considering the time it takes, and the relatively low price of those… maybe it makes more sense to get a new one 😅 Its nice to have a goal of getting under a certain number of plants. That can help so much in being decisive! Like you said it can also help so much to say “I want to purge (insert number and species) this week/month. That can help on comparing plants, thinking about what traits you have them for and determining which ones are similar and which you like the best 😊
I cannot imagine the shock of having nothing to go back to, so devasting. ohh that good to know! did you have to repot them into new substrate, or did you just leave them to grow new roots?
@ Definitely… it would be so strange and unsettling! I repotted them into half cocosoil half perlite, they rooted in that (usually Id do moss+perlite for propagations and then transfer into another substrate after rooting them, but for some reason I put those plants into cocosoil+perlite)
Hi Ana, Many thanks for this video and for letting us know that you and your family are all safe. It seems that from time to time all of us come to a point of having to make the dreaded decision of what we need to remove from our collection of plants. It’s a fact, plain and simple. Wishing you much good luck in the coming year of 2025 and I am looking forward to your channel’s content for 2025. Take care! 👌🪴🥰
@ I have less than 75 plants so I’m not at your levels of plantness. I know I have to jeep it below 80 or I’m over whelmed big time. Continue to monitor.

oh I didn't know you can use straight peroxide, I thought it always had to be diluted with water. good tips, thank you!

Ahhhh. Yes. Patience…. It is hard! 😂
Try bonide systemic granules. It really helps. The if you have a minor outbreak afterwards, you can treat with the alcohol.
@@lisaanglim9588 I don't think we can get those in Denmark, we have a lot of restrictions on pesticides 🤔
