@6:23 Just a thought but have you ever considered filming the steam train ride from Tenterden to Bodiam? Alternatively Hythe to Dungeness? Both are really nice trips and of course you can just sit back and watch the beautiful Kentish world go by!

Lucieni, absolutely - it's on the cards, perhaps later this year - not sure where time is going, such a busy schedule for us, but hey - we like to be busy. 😀

Well chaps, another beautiful and attractive video around the small towns and villages of Kent. Although I was based at Oxford University, I traveled though most of Kent over the years, discovering important but often overlooked aspects and remains of the Medieval period. Many of the churches house fascinating documents and relics of local history.
On an amusing note ( you mentioned the tractor ) one year a massive snarl up over a narrow bridge occurred when a fairly large combine harvester became wedged against a silly white van attempting to push through from the opposite direction - much waving of fists and strong language - so yes, people should take care indeed :)
Thank you once again, and very well done !

🙏 Thanks so much - history is around every corner; it's all around us in fact, in every word we speak in English, that mix of Norse, Germanic, French, Latin, Greek, as well as words imported from our years of empire - fascinating

@@OurWorldForYou Yes, you are completely correct in every regard.Almost certainly, one good reason why English has become such a dominant global language, is that essentially those seeking to master the English language are able to pick up vital, and familiar ' word ' clues along the way. A colleague of mine, a Professor of early Saxon, Medieval and Scandinavian languages would recite passages in Old Norse and so on, and it was quite surprising how the ear ' recognized ' certain words, only slightly modified today.Language is an adaptable entity, and no doubt the English we speak today will seem very antiquated in five hundred years time :)
Thank you once again, your videos are splendid and a joy to watch - and with equally interesting commentary along the way :)

I just found your beautiful video's today and have been binge watching for hours!
I was born in Tunbridge Wells so instantly recognised the oast houses, however having moved to California when I was 20, there is so much of south east England I have never seen.

    • @OurWorldForYou

Paul, thanks so much. The oast houses are very much a symbol of the south-east, you do see them in the other southern counties, but it's predominately Kent. I guess a positive from the pandemic has been a shift in my work schedule which meant I had more time to create the videos, and with travel going to be restricted, there's going to be more. The next video due on the 9th is another Kentish town. 😀
So which part of California are you located in? We visited a couple of times in the early noughties, beautiful state, and we've some fond memories. Anyway, take care, stay safe and all the very best for 2021 🍾😀🥂

Hi Gary, thanks so much for replying. I live in Woodland Hills, about 20 miles NE of downtown LA.
The ocean and weather are beautiful, but have to say as I get older I have been missing London and Kent, and try to get back at least every couple of years.

Paul, yeah there is beauty in this place, and you may need a pointer or two to get the best out of it. We usually stay a few nights in London in January/February to then go off on an explore - not this year though, may have to wait a couple of months. The Kent Coastline in winter can be -erm bracing, but fun. We've certainly a few more trips planned as restrictions here lift. We've had a couple of trips to the West Coast, 2004 - from San Francisco to Las Vegas via Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Zion - Then returned in 2006 for a crazy adventure, Again San Francisco to Las Vegas but around 2,000 miles in a Hummer H2, along the Big Sur down towards Palm Springs, before heading up to Utah, etc - madness but great fun. Anyway, enough of that, Happy New Year, all the very best for 2021 🍾😀🥂

@7:52 I love the bus route 2 from Ashford to Tenterden (or the 2a countryside route) via Rolvenden and Northiam to Hastings, it’s really pretty and I’m hoping one day I can get myself out of my pit on a day off from work early enough to get from Hastings to Eastbourne on the 99 bus via the coastal route then back to Whitstable before the buses stop running! It’s on my (slightly sad) bucket list!

Lucieni, Wow, that sounds like a marathon - guess you also need a nice day to make the most of the views from the bus. It sounds like a challenge, but what's life without challenges?

All these villages and many more were my work in the mid 60's because l worked for a laundry company from Hythe and l had the farthest round from the base, some days there were over 100 packs to deliver before many had a washing machine. Later l lived at Biddenden.

Wow Carlos, that would have been a different world. A lot less traffic on the road, with cars much smaller than today.
Despite it being work, it must have been nice to travel the countryside, especially in the summer months. Some places on this video won't have changed much in all those years.
Anyway, thanks so much for taking the time to comment,
      All the best,

@@OurWorldForYou Different life, different planet too, people had different values back then and taught their kids home education, now most are feral.

World has changed that's for sure; sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse, but it's not just the kids.
Saw an example of some rude, grumpy pensions on a ferry back from Spain a few weeks ago, which reminded me that good manners costs nothing.
Still, all we can do it try to be better, and hope other follow.
      Thanks again,
