  • Trisha Yearwood (born Patricia Lynn Yearwood on September 19, 1964) is an American country music singer, author, and actress. She is known for her ballads about vulnerable young women from a perspective that has been described by music critics as "strong" and "confident". Yearwood is a member of the Grand Ole Opry and was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2000.
Yearwood has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide, and has won three Grammy Awards, three Country Music Association Awards, two Academy of Country Music Awards, an American Music Award, and a Pollstar Industry Award for touring. Aside from her success in music, Yearwood has also ventured into writing, releasing three successful cookbooks, which earned her the status of two-time New York Times best-selling author. Since April 2012, Yearwood has hosted a culinary series on Food Network called Trisha's Southern Kitchen, for which she has won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Culinary Program.

I love Leann’s twang and wish Trisha had a twang... but Trisha has much more power which adds drama in the bridge...
But compare this to Celine and you’ll see why MHWGO was so irresistible and has become iconic, only eclipsed by I Will Always Love You in terms of icon status...

At the end of the day, this song (although LeAnn's version, of course) still ended up being bigger than MHWGO. Just check out the Billboard all-time chart of the biggest hits of all time. This is still in the Top 10, MHWGO is nowhere to be found.

Both the Rimes and the Yearwood versions debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 on the week ending June 14, 1997. Rimes' version was noted for its extreme longevity, spending a record-breaking 69 weeks on the chart, with 62 of those weeks being in the top 40, 32 weeks in the top ten and 25 in the top five, all records at the time.
Yearwood was #23 in the Hot 100 Singles chart which is the super bowl of singles charts in the US, the biggest prize while LeAnn hit # 2 on the chart, as well on the Adult Contemporary Pop chart LeAnn was #1 for 11 straight weeks Yearwood never charted & in the Adult Top 40 Pop chart LeAnn hit # 10 Yearwood never charted.
On the Country Singles Sales chart LeAnn WAS #1 for 32 straight weeks, Yearwood got as high as #3.
In sales Yearwood sold 300,000 copies in the US, LeAnn over 4,000,000 with hers having gone 4 Times Platinum. World wide Yearwood sold about 750K while LeAnn sold 1,500,000. in the second largest market the UK Yearwood was #66 while LeAnn was #7 & went Platinum.
As well LeAnn went Gold in Norway & Holland while Yearwood's only certification was double Platinum in Australia.
So both were big hits but LeAnn many more times so. Trisha won the Triple AAA championship while LeAnn won the World Series.
LeAnn performed How do I Live at the 1997 Billboard Music awards as well as at the 1998 Grammy's and the 1998 World Music Awards in Monaco seen world wide & then again in the USA on a ABC special on the World Music Awards.
LeAnn's version is #4 on the All time Billboard chart as well as the highest charted single ever by a female artist as ranked by Billboard, they also ranked it the best-charting single of the 1990s proper.
LeAnn's version as better with more heart and passion as well it was by far more successful commercially & in popularity, it's not even close!!!!

this was so unfair...this is a great song, with simple but beautiful lyrics...but stood no chance against Titanic that year...
In my opinion, this song was better.
The other one, though good, was backed by the movie and that's it.

Both Trisha and LeAnn are great vocalists, but when it comes to the lyrics, I think Trisha had a better understanding and interpretation than LeAnn since LeAnn was too young to really feel what the lyrics is about.

    • @dobazajr
      @dobazajr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

LeAnn was 14 years old when she recorded HDIL. Trisha was in her 30s when she was approached to record her version. Diane Warren, the songwriter of the song had LeAnn on her mind while writing the song. Both gave a beautiful versions and both refused to engaged in any feud.

Just so as you know, in some countries LeAnn's version was released and in others Trisha's was and in some countries both were.
The singles were released on the same day in the US in May '97 and on the US Hot Country Songs chart Trisha's version got to #2 and LeAnn's got to #43.
Here in the UK, LeAnn's was not released until '98 and Trisha's version was on the Con Air film soundtrack and her version won the Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and she also performed the song at the Country Music Association too both in '97.
Plus Trisha performed the song with this performance at the Academy Awards for Best Original Song too, so would have had worldwide exposure at both of those awards shows.
