Bought an Evoque 6 months ago and it has broken down on me twice! Stuck with 5k in repairs. That’s why I am here considering switching to a Porsche 🤔
In the market for an SUV thats fast and functional, was considering the Range Rover but too much poor reviews. Saw your review on the Macan and that sold it for me, thanks mate, a proper car review.
The Evoque is a much funkier design but its lack of engines on the whole leave it woefully underpowered. And in another way they're a victim of their own success as these things are the absolute opposite of exclusive. In the UK they're EVERYWHERE!

Ok. So the Macan is not as off-road capable as the Evoque. However here in Jamaica the roads are basically one big off road trail. They are that bad. So the Evoque would have a leg up. Having said that though, love the Macan.

Surprisingly enjoyed the Range Rover Evoque "borrowing" scene lol.... Think I woke up my wife laughing though; it's 6 am in the morning see.
Owned both and the Macan 3.0v6 petrol is the best against all of its competitors...by a long margin.

Approved used one would probably be a good option if you aren't getting one until the summer of 2015.

Why is everybody comparing the Macan to the Evoque? Surely the most direct competitor for the Macan is the Audi Q5, especially the SQ5.

Very subjective but somehow I like the Evoque better for it´s more striking exterior design, but the Macan is really really good and surely the better drivers car. It also looks better than the competition and it´s big brother. If one has the money and want this kind of car, Porsche have now made it and easy choice.
( Now give me a Evoque with the V8 diesel from the Range Rover Sport ;)
Really don't like the odd black plastic protector down the side, O and that front grille is still awful but apart from that it's a sweet looking thing. But if we're talking sporty SUV diesels you simply can't look past its close relative the Audi SQ5. Almost 350 bhp with crazy torque and performance figures to match. No less special inside either. It's a close call but as they're both around the same money it's got to be the Audi SQ5 for me. Whoch would you guys choose?
I agree about the value; the Audi is actually considerably cheaper if you load them up. But if it's ground-covering performance rather than outright power you're after, the Macan will probably be the one. Personally, I think the Macan looks too ordinary. From the side it could be a raised version of a family hatch. The SQ5 suffers from being based on the ageing Q5 but I'd still choose it, I think.
I'd rather prefer the new SEAT Ateca. It's cheaper than these and it takes you everywhere too. ;-). Greetings from Spain!
I can't see how they could fit the BiTDI engine from the Audi SQ5. Technically it could be done but it would make the Macan S redundant! I think for now if you want a REALLY quick small Diesel SUV then the BMW X3 35D M Sport or Audi SQ5 would offer greater straight line speed. As for the Evoque, a competitor the Macan, REALLY!
Congratulations, this is one of the very few unbiased British car reviewers I've seen so far. Don't get me wrong, Britan makes brilliant cars but Brit car reviewers sometimes find a little bit too difficult to admit that a german car can be better than their untouchable Land/Range Rovers. Good review though.

Nothing that JLR makes is equal to the Macan, and the Macan is off road enough for me, fine on rough country tracks. Spot on review.

Me too...I've said that before to some friends and they didn't agree, but I think it's just the price point that makes it better in their eyes...I think the Macan is better looking, more practical, and generally a nicer car.

Erstens ist der Evoque kein Range Rover, noch nicht einmal ein Land Rover, es ist Mrs. Beckhams Fucking Style Car.
Den Namen Range Rover für solch ein Auto herzugeben zeigt wie weit es mit der Marke gekommen ist, und alle die dieses Auto gut finden sind....! Ja Geschmack macht einfach einsam.
Aber nochmal zum Technik zurück, für alle die noch nie einen Porsche gefahren sind und keine Ahnung haben, hier spielt Champions League gegen Kreisklasse. Kein Vergleich! Totale Thema-Verfehlung!

I can't stand people who buy these four wheel drive cars and never do off road driving. What is the point of driving this car only on the road?
Ned 4wd is not only for off roading; its application is in performance and safety too. I had a 4wd X type (defo not designed for offroad, and you would never fit tyres for that on one); sure footed in the wet, snow, and got me across more muddy parking fields than I intended (because it could, so I didn’t need to shy away). As for the “oversized” body of these small SUVs, easy access for older relatives (yeah, real world considerations),, better driving visibility, and with decent suspension not significantly worse than a lower sports car (on most normal driving roads). Dont bias your view from a narrow perspective; accept them for what they are, and if thats not for you, then fair enough (plenty of others buy them, for all the right reasons).

Macan is butt ugly!!! RR Evoque is a proper 4x4, legendary off road capability and good looking...
Evoque is NOT a proper 4x4 it's AWD, or even FWD on some.
And as mentioned in the review, neither of these will really be doing much off-roading by their intended market, they'll be mall-crawlers ferrying wives and kids to and from school & the market.
Lol "legendary off roading" stop kidding yourself, even if it is better than the Macan, it's still not that great in off road..
Plus these type of cars are not aiming to do off road, but just to look like it can do a little bit of it..
Buy a G class if you want to do off road, not an evoque or a macan..

Macan is not a SUV. Not roomy, not practical, in no way is it an SUV. Just an excuse for mongs wanting a fast car and being able to say to their wifes thats its a practical suv.. lol
Sport Utility Vehicle,....Let's see,....Sport? Major CHECK! Utility....Okay, does it have a hatch back? Can you fold down the seats? Can you utilize the cargo space with seats folded down, unlike in a car? CHECK! Nothing to say to the "wife," here... because I AM the wife and this is the vehicle I want and will get. My reasons are that I love high performance and the sports car feel, but need to occasionally have the capacity to haul things that don't go well in a back seat or trunk. PROBLEM SOLVED. Yes, I'd call it an SUV. It just puts more emphasis on the drive than the utility part, which is EXACTLY what I want. There's nothing that says massive cargo space is what it takes to make it function for utility.
