Anyway great job and I never get my paint to lay down that smooth. You definitely do a great job. I think a lot of my problem is a lack of patience and sir you seem to have quite a bit.

Speaking of runs. When I was 17, I painted my first road car.
The Hot Rod magazines I had read seem to indicate that around 15 coats of colour and 4 coats of clear were the go.
So, I did that. All 19 coats in enamel within about an hour. 😁 It wasn't so much as runs but curtains. 😄😄

For some people a rattle can paint job is a great option. though a good one is not just a matter of spray it and leave it. and you cannot just do one coat. I have done this on several occasions, and recieved many compliments on the results, many could not believe it was a rattle can job. But it took a lot of extra work (which I had more of than I had money). to get this quality, I had to have about 4 coats of the paint itself (not including the primer anfd the prep work, which has to be equally sanded and smoothed out), then when the hob was done, I wet sanded it in steps from 1000 grit to 3000 grit, and polished it out. I still have my motorcycle that I did in maroon glitter, That job took a black base, then red glitter from the hardware store, then 4 coats of red anodizing paint (basically candy red) from the auto parts store, then 20 coats of clear high gloss wheel paint, this too had to be wet sanded down and polished (as glitter is a very textured surface if left untouched).
If you put the time in, you can get a quality look, however, there is one down side. Most rattle can paints will require keeping it waxed (religiously) or a good ceramic coating to keep it nice and glossy and to make it last, as they do tend to oxidize and loose their sheen. Clearcoating with Gloss clear wheel paint is also a good way to go, which tends to have a longer lasting sheen.
Another Good option is to use a cheap Wagner HVLP setup and automotive paint. I have done several DIY jobs with mine, and got good results, though your guns will only last through one job, as the solvent based paint will leave the guns dripping. and i actually do=id them at a lower cost than the rattle can option.Where there is a will, there is a way, even with a budget

in 1972 I bought a '59 Pontiac for $59.00 sanded it a bit and bought 10 or so cans of baby blue from the old Army and Navy store for .89 cents a can. Of course it wasn't enough so back to the store. No more in stock. they ordered paint in a big mixed color lot and wouldn't be getting more for a long time. Drove it around awhile half painted then sold it to a friend whose cousin (My future wife) painted the car black with a brush. She actually did a pretty nice job.

For what it's worth it seems like with either spray cans or a $300 dollar air compressor gun, stopping half way across the panel going one way and then coming back the other way gives a build-up in the middle and hence the "sag". Best to go straight across the panel and a touch past the seams which helps with the edges too.

Mike awesome job on paint and colors !!! On the chop top 65 i like a stepside bed but not crazy about when they have the spare tire indentation in them , my 66 short stepside did not have that and it looked better . So i think the other bed would look better on your truck . On my 66 i had a white grill and bumper but i did put chrome mirrors on it and white spoke wheels with chrome center caps and lug nuts . Just a small amount of chrome really set it off and the white wheels complimented the grill and bumper . If you paint your wheels white i think they will look real good with the top being whit and your grill and bumper , bet that will set it off well !!

That paint couldn't've been cheap. I would've gone ahead and stud-welded/pulled the dents, and bondoed them and all the old mirror holes. Not sure how you fix that damage around the roof perimeter, but I'd give it a shot. I like making it straight too, but that can get old when I keep failing - I've got an '05 Mustang GT, and that driver's door about drove me bonkers because I didn't get it pulled out quite far enough. Masking is also fun because of the challenge - like bodywork...
