Well thought out video. It might help to know that once the nut is started it should be rotated from the 12 o'clock position one full revolution and then stop at 4 o'clock. A total of 8 sides of the nut past the 12 o'clock position. I'm not trying to out do anyone, but my first 10/22 was a 1969 Sporter, that's 51 years old, then a 1977 Carbine, then a 1987 Sporter for a project, and finally a 2014 Take - Down. And in all that time I have had probably 20 plus 10 round mags. With only one unfixable failure, a broken spring. But the original mag from the first 1969 Sporter is still going strong. With a combined total of well over 250,000 rounds of ammo put thru them that is impressive. Ruger got it right with this gun/mag combination. For what it's worth, stick with Ruger mags, the after market ones regardless of capacity are not very reliable, with the exception of Butler Creek ones. If you do your part these things will outlast you. As an aside, the steel buffer pin at the rear of the receiver should be an immediate discard and be replaced with an after market silicone rubber one. They might eventually wear down, but it's better than a cracked receiver. So just replace them as or if you see any wear. That's all I've got, thanks for the video.
I'm trying to put mine back together, but it's not working, there seems to be not enough tension on the spring, even though I'm doing what all of these videos say, the magazine was working before I disassembled it, does anyone have any feedback? It would be very much appreciated.

Thanks, just what I needed. Mine was sticking and I was able to reassemble it with your help. I did notice that if I tightened the main bolt that held it all together too tight on reassembly, it didn't allow the barrel to turn freely. Once I loosened that bolt just slightly, the barrel inside was able to turn and feed the ammo.
Two turns seems to be about right. I hold the nut lightly with a pair of needle nose small vice grips. Once the right tension is reached you can tip the nut a bit sideways to engage the mag body then let go the grips while pushing the nut home. I don't break my nails that way! :-D
Interesting. Moving frictional parts and no lubricant. I need to research this concept more. Maybe a dry lubricant? Thanks for the video. Very informative.
There has to be an official number of flats that the nut turns to properly tension a new spring, and that would be nice to know. And as for a plastic on plastic type of magazine, powdered graphite is about the only type of lube you could safely use as it will not attract dust and gum up the works like oil or grease, it will not get hard in freezing conditions or get runny in the heat like oil or grease, and will not attack anything plastic like some solvent type of oils might. Blains farm and fleet sell it by the gallon for something like $18 and that much will last 1000 people lubing their magazines for a few hundred years!
probably cause it needs a weird 4.5mm allen-key/ hex head driver which alot of people dont have cause its a weird size, hell im an engineer and i dont even have a 4.5mm hex head, hell i used a flat head screw driver to take that bolt out about 4 hours ago haha, i have one that fits between 2 points of the hex nut and just be really careful

Hi, if you have not already done this ,try taking your rifle and mag apart and give it a good clean, sometimes it is this simple to stop jamming etc, cheers.

It seems to be fine on the consistency part as the rounds would fall id say 5-8 inches away. I have a rd or so that’ll go 10-13 inches away. So I’m not sure if it help or not. Guess I’ll just need to hit the range to test it out.
My Rossi Rifle I think I definitely need to do that. My dumbass seriously spray painted my bolt and I had to put alcohol on it to rub it all off again and I might’ve still got some paint in the bolt itself etc. I’ll learn how to disassemble it and assemble it back. Thank you though for your time.

@@bobgarr6246 You're actually starting at 11 when tension starts so it would be 3 or 1 1/3 turns.

Turn the adjustment nut lightly clockwise until it stops, then turn it 8 notches exactly then tighten the bolt

Thank goodness I have two of these. One to leave alone and use to calibrate spring tension.

I like to hold the nut in one hand and turn the magazine with the other. A lot easier than trying to turn that little nut.

I give the nut a 360 degree rotation plus one more flat of the nut for proper tension. Seems to work well.

FYI ..If you a older original, Version 1 ?? rotary magazine , that has the really small Allen head .... it is a 5/64ths

Hi, I never leave a magazine loaded , the only issue I can see would be one of safety, cheers.
Either leave them loaded or unloaded. The springs life is only effected by how many times it is compressed not how long it is compressed.
Looks like a allen screw head where you are using a torx screwdriver. Otherwise, good video.

@@l.o.r410 That is your ejector not the mag, take your bolt out and clean the face and also inside receiver.

Tandemkross sells a tool for this purpose. The tool is nearly impossible to use. Just my opinion. Your way is much better and easier.
