After the breakup of Journey in 1987, keyboardist Jonathan Cain and guitarist Neal Schon decided to form another band. This time around, Jon Cain would reunite with The Babys' frontman John Waite (the man who turned down Journey's Open Arms) and bassist Ricky Phillips. Drummer Deen Castronovo would go on to become Journey's drummer after they reunited in the mid 90s. The supergroup was together for only a couple of years but they'd made their mark with this Number 1 hit in 1989. 'When I See You Smile' would be Waite's first number 1 hit song since his solo hit 'Missing You' which also hit number 1 in 1984.
The keyboardist, Jonathan Caine (while previously with The Babys), began writing the song "Open Arms" for John Waite to sing but John turned it down as "sentimental rubbish", so then when Jonathan joined Journey, Steve Perry sang it & the rest is history.
Oh 80's rock ballads ... every band did at least one. Warrant did Heaven,Firehouse did Love Of A Lifetime (this was our wedding song... going on 31 years this week!), Aerosmith did Angel, Slaughter did Fly To The Angels, Kix did Angel Eyes. Just to name a few
I was in high school when this song came out, and yup - it was the sappy teenage anthem (one of them) of my generation. The Cutting Crew “I Just Died in your Arms Tonight” was another.
Jonathan Cain and guitarist Neal Schon, members of the successful rock band Journey, formed Bad English with Waite after Journey disbanded.[6] They were joined by Ricky Phillips, who had played bass for the Babys on two albums with Waite and Cain, and drummer Deen Castronovo
Bad English was an American/British hard rock supergroup formed in 1987. It reunited Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain with singer John Waite and bassist Ricky Phillips, his former bandmates in the Babys, along with Journey guitarist Neal Schon and drummer Deen Castronovo.
Aaawe! Good memories 🥹🌷👏 My daughter was born in ‘91 and this song was still very popular. I sang this to her and thought of her each time I heard it. That baby and her lil angel face got me through some major shite, ya’ll 😅 Thanks for the sweet drive down memory lane ❤😘☀️
He could have wrote this song about you, Brit. When I see you smile , I can face the world…ohhh ohhhh, I can do anything !!! Your smile lights up the all of TH-cam !!😁😁😁😁
Aww this takes me back to my freshman prom ❤ Man, we grew up with the best music, rock and roll, hip hop, county...you name it :) Put this back on my Playlist!
This song makes me think of my daughter when she was a toddler. I put together a video of her with this soundtrack. Great memories! I find it has greater meaning when related to my child.
Written by Diane Warren. Great song. She wrote a song for John Waite when he went solo. Warren wrote 2 songs with members of Bad English in their 2nd but last studio album Backlash. Journey broke up in 1987. It split into 2 groups 1 Bad English and 2 The Storm. John Waite had a Top 10 song named Missing You 40 years ago 🎂. 5 years later, he reunited with Jonathan Cain and Ricky Phillips in Bad English. The Storm released its 1st album in 1991, same year as the last album of Bad English. In Australia 🇦🇺, there was a singer named Jon English, Sr. RIP. His daughter-in-law is country singer Christie Lamb 🐑 You can say that family 👪 is Good English! L 🤣 L Suggested videos 1 Joh. Waite sings Missing You 2 Bad English performs Straight to Your Heart 3 The Storm performs I've Got a Lot to Learn about Love 4 Christie Lamb sings Beat of My Own Drum 🥁
This was definitely one of my favorite rock ballads. I used to sing this to my ex-husband. This came out in 1989. I was 20 years old. So young and naive at the time
The 90's were known for the rise of grunge, but just before that there was an explosion of "supergroups." These were mostly side projects from musicians that had become famous in other huge bands (in this case, from Journey and the Babys.) There were several of these groups...they burst on to the scene with incredible music, then vanished almost as fast as they appeared. The longest lasting of these supergroups was Mr. Big (you know them), but a few others were the Damn Yankees, Hardline, and Badlands. God bless!!
The guitarist is the one and only Neal Schon. The guitar player for Journey. After a stellar career with Journey, he put out some great songs with Bad English. He wasn't finished there. He later put out a few albums and more awesome music in a band called Hardline!
I always get emotional when I hear this. When my son was little, he'd ask for me to take his picture by saying, "'mile at me, Mommie!!'" oh, my heart. 🥺 (he's fine, but he's 27 now.) 😂
So,Britt… if you look closely, the keyboardist and the dark-haired lead guitar player… Do they look familiar? … The lead singer is John Waite, the keyboardist is Jonathan Cain and lead guitarist is Neal Schon. Jonathan Cain and John Waite were in another band called ‘The Babys’. Then later, Jonathan Cain joined with Neall Schon and His band… JOURNEY. And Neal Schon and the keyboardist who was originally with Journey, Gregg Rolie were also in the band Santana in the late 60s and early 70s.
You don’t know nothing. You missed those late 80’s, every single woman/ girl was so in love 🥰 😍😘😘. Were beautiful years I just wanna go back to my 20’s
This is written for men, not women, because this is how we feel when we finally find THAT girl. Women want to claim this song, but it's about a man's heart when he finally finds "her, " the One...

I saw Bad English in concert at the SIU Arena in beautiful Carbondale, Illinois. They opened for Whitesnake. I was very impressed with John Waite and the band. He had great stage presence. Coverdale, on the other hand, was very crude and obnoxious. Between songs he bragged about f@#%ing Tawny Kitaen. His bad lockerroom behavior ruined what was musically an excellent show. I guess some boys just never grow up and get over themselves.
John Waite is the lead singer, and one of my favorite songs in High School was "Missing You" by Mr. Waite. Gotta check that one out: th-cam.com/video/k9e157Ner90/w-d-xo.html
It’s sad u think that type appreciation is only for girls not women. Men work hard to provide and part of that motivation is having a woman appreciation and to reciprocate that hard work. Sadly it seem to b missing in the current society and ur words just back that up.
@@brittreacts also check out their song I believe in you info about the band they are a hair band from the 80s but they aren’t rock although they look like it they are a Christian group their other song to hell with the Devil is a good one too. You won’t be disappointed I promise.

Most of them have more than one but on every albums
The way I remember it, the hard rockers tended to attract a lot of guys as fans, and then they'd throw out a ballad or two get the ladies.
This song helped me through some tough times. Even now, a genuine smile can tap hidden strength you didn't know you had.
The guy on the keyboard and the lead guitar(dark hair) are from Journey
The drummer too
@@nakrohtap The drummer joined Journey much later....probably as a result of playing with Neal Schon in Bad English and Hardline.

As a teenager in the 80’s this kind of music was the soundtrack of my life 😊
John Waite also had a solo single called “missing you”. Similar style and vibe, but very much 80’s.
The singer is John Wait...He had a big hit with a song called "MISSING YOU "...Check it out...He was also with THE BABYS...Another great band!!!!

Much more powerful when related to a child. I put together a video montage of her set to this song.
This makes me me think of my wife. Together 16 years... I love to see her smile. Not gonna lie. I might of got a little teary eyed.

"Time Stood Still" is a hidden gem with a similar theme. It has a rare acoustic guitar intro and solo by Neal Schon of Journey.
A super group with John Waite singing and Journey members Jonathon Cain, Neal Schon, and Dean Castronovo thrown in for the ride.
Aww this takes me back to my freshman prom ❤ Man, we grew up with the best music, rock and roll, hip hop, county...you name it :) Put this back on my Playlist!

Rock on!
Had this song for the first dance at my wedding. Romantic indeed. Keep up your entertaining reviews, love your humour.

Pretty sure you've heard all of these guys before. Keyboardist and lead guitarist are from Journey, singer and bass from The Babys
A Diane Warren composition. Look up her songwriting credits if you are not familiar. Hall of Famer
Omg jr high school, dance flashback!!!
My husband put this song on a mixtape for me back when we were dating. Tomorrow is our 31st wedding anniversary.
You would like the singer’s previous band The Baby’s. Their song Everytime I think of you is the good choice.
I just love your reactions. You should have grown up in the 80's like me. We would have been best friends.
🙂🖤
