Today we check out how to spice up boring metal riffs, we reharmonize a basic riff and include some 'Jazz Chords' - by adding the major/minor thirds and major/minor sevenths to the perfect fifths and extending the voicings beyond that we get some really interesting results - tabs and guitar pro files for the riff are online for all students here: www.patreon.com/bernth

Thank you Bernth ! ! I like the fact that in your playing you use real chords as oppossed to power chords. It makes the music come alive ! ! My classical guitar background helped me learn the fretboard and just by watching your video now I discovered that a lot of your voicings are common jazz voicings that I now can use to write songs with. Thank you so much!!
Please give us more of these modern voicings in your videos. They really sound great and very musical. I think I'll sart writing rock songs like this. And again don't stop your videos they're too précious.

Bernth thank you for this incredible lesson. The legendary Vito Bratta used a lot of unique chords like this in his playing. And again your lessons are indispensable!!

I am Brazilian and the first thing my guitar teacher done to me was explain the harmonic patterns. And he teached me to play bossa nova - this jazzy aproach is common. But I never learned everything about this... Well, I only know that is very good to listen guys who bring this to metal, like John Petrucci, Periphery or Animals as Leaders. Thanks Man!

I have a question though. At 8:05 you referred B as a minor third of G, isn't it supposed to be major third? Or am I just confused with something? Haha nice video as always Bernth! You rock :)

Man this is amazing stuff. Those chords are my absolute favorite. When i thinking chords its 7th.
They brought tension suspense and original dare i say "modern" feel. Cheers.

Amazing video, really love your work and will be checking out your other videos, one thing I would like to say is that perhaps a guitar with more traditional fret inlays would work better for these videos as it would be easier to keep track of what frets you are playing as you move around the neck, it is a very nice guitar though!

I'd be interested to hear what songs you have made from using jazz chords in metal I've always wanted to hear what jazz metal sounds like and wanted it to take over as a subgenus that later becomes pop just like many others

Jazz Chords take the aggression out of metal. Don't do it or youll sound like the soy metal thats so popular now.
