    Every single year since the start of the NUC concept I sit down with the intent to buy one and never do because intel does a bizarrely horrible job of listing what the newest models are and where you can buy them.

    Good review, nice package from Intel. I have two basic NUCs, a 5th gen (still in use) and a 11th gen. Love them both. The newer one travels with me. If I was into gaming or otherwise needed discrete graphics card, I'd absolutely go for this 13th gen Extreme one.

      This is far worse. It’s a pile of eWaste waiting to happen. At least with Apple there’s so many of them around you can find parts and schematics. With this thing once it lets the magic smoke out you’re up s t creek without a paddle.

    this reminds me of when apple couldn’t keep PowerPC cool in the early 2000s so they had to make that huge G5 tower that had a heat sink like 1/3rd the size of the tower, like why is it so big

    I Have NUC extreme 12 i7. The size attracted me, the new one is crazy over the top size. They need a new mid sized model, i don't need the insane modern GPUs.

    Hi Liza, please mention in review, that you cannot replace 750W PCU. PCU/MB cable is dedicated and does not suite any regular SFX PCU cables. This makes it a bottleneck that cannot be fixed on failure or upgraded to a better 1000W PCU for high end GPUs.

    Thanks for the good review. I always enjoy your perspective. That's why I've been a subscribe for many years. I'm seriously considering this system. I don't think it's expensive at all for what you get. To build a pc wity quality components with these i/o options will be expensive already. Not many motherboards have thunderbolt 4 and they are expensive. Not to mention 10gb ethernet. The only issue for me is the 2 slot memory limitation. Otherwise a well designed piece of engineering.

      There are some smaller systems that are ridiculously thermally limited. Look into thermals before considering one of the small workstations.

      If it's meant to be a home use gaming PC yes. I'm thinking of picking up one of these to use as a somewhat portable workstation, I use laptops right now because I have to switch location fairly often, but I don't move so much that I really need a laptop only. I could do with one of these things for a more fixed base PC as a companion to my XPS 13 that I lug everywhere.

    Nice video - like the "big" machine. Personel i use the NUC12SNKi7 for DaVinci Resolve (yes it works !!!) and i am really happy with the performence :) Maybe i want buy the big machine, too and slam a A770 in this :)

    I’m rocking a Nuc 12 extreme right now. I feel in no need to upgrade immediately. I think I’ll wait a little bit to upgrade and see if they slim it down a bit

      That i7-13700K got my 1080Ti acting like a brand new GPU. Lol. Almost went with the i9 version but the performance difference for the cost was too negligible.

    I have a Intel NUC10 i7 med 32GB and 1TB and I love the size and its sleek design with my Samsung Odyssey G9 240 49", but it seems to have come to the end of the road due to Fusion 360 application. I'm thinking of moving the NUC10 to the garage and just use it as a handling of 3D prints to the Bmabu Lab X1C.
    I more or less never play games, and if I would play a game it will be a Hunting simulator or RC drones/cars simulator like Velocidrone.
    Will an ASUS 13 Extreme i9 with 64GB and RTX4070 12GB be over the top and a Intel NUC12 Pro i7 with 64GB enough to meet my needs?

    "mobile" cases ideally need a version that has handles. To grab and go between locations. Foldup monitors and keyboards that can be packed together also an advantage

    This is not a nuc and is not portable. It's just a normal gaming or power desktop PC. Maybe it's good but it's not in the category of nuc anymore

    Has anyone heard of them making a pro x version of this with ECC? I know intel has been hesitant to add ECC to the nuc line cause it cuts into the profits of Lenovo, dell, and hp. With the Nuc 12 pro x, I'm hoping they'll repeat what they did last year and drop a 'pro' version of the 13.

      Dell just lost a bunch of precision sales. They do not offer workstations with Thunderbolt for connecting to storage arrays and audio interfaces ie UAD Apollo line.

    Only computer that would fit in a tight space, includes Thunderbolt 4 so I can attach to a 30tb NVME ssd storage array, and offers 10tb and 2.5tb ethernet. Plus the full size PCIe. Also disassembly is so easy and quick. Its a nice and cool running system quiet as well.

    If it's quieter = better. Should be designed to be quiet, actually. Current MB fan is cheap.

    This is almost as big as the dell 3460 precision SFF workstation. I like the dell 3460 since you can lay it flat.

    This high heatsink for the GPU shows how badly Intel is behind Apple, when you compare this to the Mac Studio.
    Considering all the proprietary parts, it's hard to see how this is better than a regular SFF case like the Dan A4H2O, unless you really want to use a 4-slot 4090.

      And guess what: that's exactly who this pc is for. The people who want a 4080 or 4090 with a 13700k or whatever. And proprierity parts are barely an issue with NUC's: the MB/cpu can just be upgraded more easily than with a regular system, as they all have the same footprint/connector.

      NEC had a prototype @ CES a year or so I think, was like a 2-in-1 but 8 inches and with controllers.
      Honestly, would love for that. The only ones in that space are GPD, and while the devices seem to be really good from what I hear their after-sales support is extremely crap.

      @@ahmedchampion3687 The NUC was initially made to cater Mini PC markets. Maybe Mac Studio still corresponds to the market that extreme 28-45W CPU edition NUC targets, but Mac Pro is a different league of beast.

    I wish Intel would actually stick with a form factor. Then it might be worth buying. As it is, you essentially have to buy it like a laptop, which is just dumb. Just cannot even consider it as long as forward compatibility is so bad.

    I get the tiny pc, and why hou would buy that. But once you get to the bigger ones you might as well just a get a tower and build it yourself. I dont understand the appeal of the bigger nucs, its just a pc at that point.

    The nuc 13 is just stupid. Its practically the size of a normal ATX case with a far more inconvenient non standard layout.
    I am still waiting on a retro NUC that can run Dos through Windows 7 (32bit) for retro gaming and software purposes.

      There's a TH-camr called TheRasteri who has done a couple of mini DOS PCs. I'd just emulate in software, to be honest.

    Had a hades canyon, well 3 of them and they all crapped out after a few years of use.

      Disagree (with parent comment), this is the very high performance model. I do believe it's massive for its size, but at least it seems to justify itself with the cooling capacity compared to the hardware.
      What I do think is that from the pictures I've seen from the other NUC (the one with the Arc Integrated), _that one_ is larger than it should. It looked like they really wanted to have ports in the middle, so they just stretched the other side empty.
