    There was a 1978 El Camino v8 that was converted to run on hydrogen (water through carb) back in 2006. Owner drove around for several thousand miles at low power, before locking in storage garage. Shop in Georgia used obsolete dual 1.5MH coils relay per cylinder,and diodes, and passed 6-7 amps current through spark plugs same time as spark, using Inverter with half wave diode. Champion plugs cross reference with same REACH can be taken apart at top to exchange 6kohm resistor for copper wire substitute- like a racing plug. Timing was retarded to minus 34 degrees. Will start and run Idle speed but for acceleration power, the carb was uncovered to increase size of main jet redrilled about 30% bigger for more water. The EGR assisted the efficiency, but later on they found out that just some of the exhaust water would also smooth out engine running if reused! The exhaust has compressed in Nitrogen from air that boosted efficiency. (Air is 78% Nitrogen) Web site shut down, but couple videos 1+2 are still there on him and son running lawnmower engine on water. S1R9A9M9 -Nathren) I studied the whole thing. He now only runs V8 on engine stand for 24hr hooked to electrical power generater, with water line .

      diyouevensplash no problem, it's not every day you see these. Although it hasn't quite caught on yet, personally the g body is my favorite body style.

    Is the timing chain entrance facing towards the dash or towards the front end? Hoping I won’t have to pull the engine to replace the chain? Just curious because if they don’t have to pull the engine the shop charges less. I don’t have to car in possession yet but will soon so I can’t tell where it’s located at the moment.

      nicholasgilmore5082 sorry for the late reply, for some unknown reason TH-cam hasn't been notifying me as much lately. Those are kind words, however I wouldn't say that I'm amazing. Just some random guy who happens to own a classic Chevrolet El Camino that wanted to make an educational video under the hood.

    No smog pump?

      elcodreamin5280 that was from the previous owner, they removed all emissions except the egr valve and catalytic converter as emissions are not required where I live. However if it still had all the emissions when I bought it, I would have kept it all on, they also disconnected some of it such as the charcoal canister.

    I have a 87 with carburetor

    • @nightfall2681
      @nightfall2681  ปีที่แล้ว

      playboyh415 did you buy an 87 that way, or did you put a carburetor in yourself? As the carbureted 5.0 L V8 ended in 84, from 85-87 by factory the El Camino had a fuel injected 4.3 L V6.

      I have a 5.0 305 carburetor on my 86. I don’t think they made a fuel injected elco

      My stock 87 305 has a 4 barrel carb. It's computer controlled.

      @@that_mdrfkr4451 from 85-87 the standard engine for the El Camino was an electronic fuel injected 4.3 L V6, however there was also an available 5.0 L V8 with electronic spark control.

      I had a 1987 El Camino with a factory stock 305 V8. It had a Rochester 4 barrel carburetor. I am sure of it as I spent many hours under the hood of the car. The only vehicles of the time with fuel injection on the 305 V8 were the Camaros and Monte Carlo SS models with the Cross Fire 305 V8.
