I don't know how many times I've listened to this song in the past few weeks but what I can tell is that each time it just keeps getting better and better. Honestly, one of the best songs I've heard in years.
Masterpiece, as is the entire album - final track Lantern Light is possibly the most beautiful song ive ever heard, written by Tuomas for his Father following his passing in 2022.
Tuomas is the master of transitions. The way this song goes from soft ballad to thrash metal, tribal drums, soft ballad back to heavy with SAAAILLLL into really heavy chuggy riffs and drums and then it ends with beautiful uillean pipes and piano. If you tried to tell someone about this song they would think it would be a jumbled mess. Get Tuomas to create it and its just seamless perfection. Best NW song for me... period.
This is the 3rd single, and longest song, from the new album, Yesterwynde. As with all the songs from this album, multiple listens are needed to try and pick up everything that is going on. I like how heavy it gets. At the end of this song is Troy's Uilleann pipes, the Irish bagpipes. The vocals for the entire record were recorded in Sweden , at Floor's home studio. She said it was just 6 weeks after 2nd daughter Lucy was born. The 2 album singles that you haven't done yet are "The Day Of..." and the ballad "Lanternlight", both with music videos. Entire album is now out too.
It's insane how ... somehow ... one just comes to expect this. Most others would simply fail at belting that high, not even talking about length, articulation etc. She really is a gift to this band, if Tuomas writes it she can do it.
This one is growing on me, some of the melodic structure and orchestral arrangements reminds me of vintage Nightwish. It seems like a journey through their various styles over more than two decades. btw, Sam and Chris, I hope you guys are OK with the hurricane approaching, looks like you're close to its projected track at Cape Coral. Stay safe!
Hi guys, nice to see you dive in the new album. Can not wait for your other responses, certainly “Lantern lights”. Nothing is programmed, it is all instruments of the famous London musicians, the best of the world. It took Thuomas and the director almost 6 months to get it totally right. All symphonic instruments in Night Wish songs are real instruments and played by these incredible musicians. You do not have to doubt that. That is a big reason why it takes at least 2 years to Finnish a new album and Floor gave birth 6 weeks before recording. Insane how she picked it right up. They all came to Floor’s homestudio to record it. Awesome friendship in Nightwish and I love how Floor always calls them her brothers. ❤
If you listen to the orchestral versions, there is a lot that the symphony musicians can play at their concerts without the listeners noticing that it is not a classical composition but from metal
To realise at first I didnt like this song too much as a single; However when I was in my 20th (or so) listening of the entire album, all of a sudden it struck me as lightning... Mastercomposition...
@12:00 I'm quite sure it is Troy playing some exotic string instrument (maybe his bouzouki) @15:15 I'm quite sure it is Troy playing with his uillean pipes. This is some kind of default answer when some one asks what am I listening to? It usually is Troy.
Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that for me explores themes of solitude, self-discovery, and the existential journey through life's trials. The imagery of the ocean, islands, and mariners reflects a metaphorical exploration of the human experience of connecting with other individuals. The song captures the essence of navigating life’s uncertainties and finding one's place in a vast, often unwelcoming world. It suggests a longing for connection and understanding while grappling with the weight of past experiences and the isolation they can bring. P.S. The reason for the many butterflies in the music video is most likely that in many cultures they show us how we can go within ourselves to dissolve old forms and morph, rebuilding and evolving ourselves,. They show us the importance of surrender and trust as part of the essential process of growth and renewal. P.S.S. Floor did the vocals only six weeks after having given birth to her 2nd child & it was still painful for her to even stand.
🤘 When you listen to Devil and the deep dark ocean ( live Buenos Aires Floor), Scaretale (album with Anett) Sahara ( live Tamper Floor) you'll find similarities.
As always: nice and professional reaction, with emphasis on the instrumental stuff (for the adoration of our Goddess there are other, vocal focussed reactors :-) Now it is time for "The Weave" from the same album, please look for that at the lyrics supporting version of their album on YT...😉
Love this musical journey ❤❤❤ Great concert opener or closer 😁 Would be awesome live with a full orchestra and choir❣️ The best one however from the new album is the last song with musicvideo Lanternlight.
note: FPS has little to do with aspect ratio :) .. P.S. You guys need to share hair equally ..P.P.S. I was happy to see that when I purchased the album you also get versions of the songs with just the orchestration .. pretty cool ... P.P.P.S. Floor recorded her part only six weeks after giving birth to Lucy; she still had pain standing. The guys worked with and around during recording .. as Floor had to stop every hour or two to do mom stuff .. feeding, changing, rocking .. singing perhaps to her little one. ... P.P.P.P.S. Irish bagpipes, Uilleann pipes. Scottish bagpipes fill the bag by blowing on a tube while the Irish bagpipes the bag is filled by pumping a bladder under the upper arm. People get confused .. it is basically a fancy flute with air from a stored bag of air .. how the bag is filled is beside the point .. bag + pipes = bagpipe

Oh yes.
they're not touring this album
@@milton1448 But when they do . . . there's gonna be some major-league windmilling.

Crazy fact! Floor was only 6 weeks postpartum when she recorded these vocals. 😳
As a woman with 4 kids, that is insane. 😂❤

It is bagpipes. Irish Uillean pipes to be precise - played by Troy.

Ullean pipes...Troy plays those and Tuomas writes these masterpieces in a continuous row.
It is really calling you & calling me, to be a part of their story.
It is a masterpiece! ❤❤🤘🤘🤘🤘

such a progressive metal with smyphonic elements masterpiece of an album

Uilleann pipes... used in many a NW song. Check out last of the Wilds live @ Wacken 2013.
All symphonic stuff is recorded by an orchestra
Man long time without another masterpiece from nw
Yes, Troy with his illeum bagpipe at the end rounds this magical tour up.
Uilleann pipes.

Eh, yes those are bagpipes, the Irish bagpipe called UILLEAN pipes. NW does not use fake instruments 🤨

Well... 2 guesses of what instrument was played in song. Both terrible wrong... Keep up the good work ! Stop guessing, just bow to the masters.
Could it be Hanna (Tuomas) girlfriend/wife that play the Harp🤔she plays it in Auri i think.
I think her name is Johanna? But yes, she can play many instruments too.
Altamullan Road, Auri and other projects :)

Tuomas’ wife Johanna doesn’t play the harp here, it’s one of the orchestra members actually..
