  • A brief how to, on keeping multiple female bettas in one tank.
    No less than 5 females
    NEVER ANY MALES
    No less than 15 gallons
    Heavily planted with hides and decor
    Something I forgot to mention is heavily filter your betta sorority and do at least one 50% water change a week.

    The tanks are pristine and spotless, the fish are active and swim calmly, stop reading rules on keeping them and use your eyes. The lady knows what she's doing and her tanks are proof of this.

      @Do Bo You could survive just fine in a room no larger than 8 feet by 8 feet. But that doesn't mean you'd be happy. It doesn't mean you'd do well.

    • @peepslostsheep
      @peepslostsheep 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Do Bo There are about 231 cubic inches in a gallon.
      Betta are around 2 inches long.
      A gallon square is just over 6.1 inches in all dimensions. A tank that is 6.1 inches wide, by 6.1 inches tall, by 6.1 inches deep, filled all the way, is 0.98 gallons. Close enough.
      This means that, as a cube, the gallon space is 3 times longer than the fish.
      So you're right. My measurement was off. The space equivalent would be 18 feet wide/tall/long.
      So sure. You COULD live in a room that is 18ftx18ftx18ft (324 sqft of floor space). But that doesn't mean you could do so well, or happily. Stuck in a room forever with a few fake plants and nothing else. Food being delivered through a hole in the ceiling.
      But the point of my post wasn't an exact comparison. It was simply about being stuck in a very small space.

    • @peepslostsheep
      @peepslostsheep 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Do Bo What are the other dimensions of the tank? How deep is the water?
      Your betta is either stunted, or still young. They are supposed to be 2-3 inches.

    • @peepslostsheep
      @peepslostsheep 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Kou 1 The issue isn't the scenery changing. It's the size of the tank. Do Bo is/was keeping their beta in 1 gallon bowl. A far cry from 30 gallons.

    OMG!!! i almost hate you for educating me in such detail. i just went to redesign my poorly designed tank and spared no cost, i feel sad that i was so misinformed before buying a betta, I've gone to a proper level to make sure my fish has a happy life, no more vase, flowing water with filtration and loads of hiding spots, THANK YOU

      The saddest part is that most pet stores don’t only lie to you, but they lie to themselves! They think it’s ok and then all their betta’s look so sad and when I bring them home they still seem pretty sad or sometimes die ):
      I started buying betta from an actual aquarium, much nicer and not a pet store, the betta there actually look alive!

    Java fern is easy to keep and grow, don’t bury the rhizome in the substrate, java fern absorbs it’s nutrients from the water column instead attach it to driftwood or rock with with fishing line or rubber-band, If you see black lines through the leaves, your plant’s not in trouble. Java ferns have black veins running through them. You also might occasionally notice black bumps, which grow new leaves.

    Wow!!! All these heavy debates about the inch of fish per gallon of water. I think your loosing sight of her purpose for her video. It's to establish a beta sorority. And she has definitely done that. With 3 tanks. Which everyone of them look amazing. The fish are calmly swimming together and they all look healthy and happy. If there was all this stress and bad water parameters it would definitely show on the fish. But their color is wonderful and so are their behaviour. The proof is in the pudding. Your tanks AND fish look amazing so keep up the videos please. I'm wanting to start a beta sorority and find your video very helpful. Thank you.

    I defiantly agree with the 5 rule. I found that one way to bypass that rule (this will not always work) is with fancy guppy’s. They are non aggressive and they do well to distract the aggression in the tank. I currently have a 20 gallon long with multiple species (three female betta, three fancy guppy, pleco, and coolie loaches) space works well and guppy’s are a good distraction.

    I personally have a sorority tank with a male in it.
    I agree on the 5 minimun, heavy planted 15 gallons minimun tank.
    But, what needs to happen is getting females with the right personalities. If they are really aggressive no mater changing the decoration, adding more plants, hidding places or a larger tank. You MUST separate them. Keep extra tanks handy in case it doesn' work out.

    Hi, looking to set up a similar tank so just have a few questions.
    You said in the video that you have about 15 or 16 bettas in the top right tank, so your running about 1 betta per gallon (not judging at all, I'm all for overstocking) I am assuming your filtration is high (on top of the plants) just wondering what filtration you are running?
    Also do you think putting a clean up crew (corys and ottos) in with them would be fine? I am a little hesitant about the ottos being so small, maybe they will get picked on?
    Also thinking about putting in some schooling fish like cardinals or neons or rummy nose tetras, what do you think about that?
    love your tanks by the way, very cool and very colourful.

    I absolutely love your tanks. I have been trying, and pretty much failing at starting my own sorority. I learned a lot from your video above, and I mean a lot. One thing I would love to see you do a video on is quarantining. I know you can never guarantee a sick fish won't make it into your main tank, but a video to show how you try to avoid this from happening. I had some thing go through and wipe out all but 6 of my 20 bettas and I was heart broken. I have put a hold on doing anything more to the tank until I discover a better way of doing this. But I would love to see how you quarantine, your set up, what you do to the water, filtration, medications vs salt, and things of that nature to increase the likelihood of your bettas making it into your new tanks as health as possible. I can't get over how beautiful your tanks are. Awesome!!

    can you make it detail?

    • @scottwpilgrim
      @scottwpilgrim 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      LED lights work, but I use a florescent grow light I bought at Lowe's in the garden center. For substrate, it depends on the plant. You just need some organic soil and sand for the carpet plants. Remember that some plants do better when they're not in substrate. The third most important thing after the lights and the substrate is CO² and iron. Some plants need more CO² or iron than others so if your plant is turning brown, Most likely you need more nutrients.

I got my two boys at Petco, one had a cloudy eye when I got him. They each had a five gallon tank. They both started to get fin rot, no matter what I tried, nothing stopped it. Since their tanks were used as quarantine they weren't cycled and they needed an established, planted tank stat. So in desperation I put the guy worst off in the guppy tank. He started doing better. Unfortunately my daughter's Betta passed at six months. We are heartbroken, he was her fishy friend, he responded to her like a doggo, knew our voices, a couple tricks. We never want to go through this again. We did everything by the book and it all went so wrong, so quickly. I feel like the industry sets us up to fail, there is so much bad info and products out there. Thank goodness for TH-camrs like you. If I ever can bring myself to buy a Betta again, they will live as fish do, in an aquarium, with plants, and other fish, not all alone. People kept telling me not to put them in my regular community tanks, but it is actually going well. Too bad it was too late for her buddy, he was the household favorite for personality. I just don't want to risk another fish till I figure out all the misconceptions I'm still struggling with. Thanks for sharing your experience. I hope to someday have Betta fish again but from a reputable source next time.

    for a 20 gallon- 8 females
    for a 30 gallon- 12 females
    for a 40 gallon- 16 females
    for a 50 gallon- 20 females
    for a 60 gallon- 24 females
    for a 70 gallon- 28 females
    for a 80 gallon- 32 females
    for a 90 gallon- 36 females
    for a 100 gallon- 40 females
    Obviosly for the higher number of gallons maybe one or two more females than the limit is fine but each female should have 2.5 gallons or more.

      Leonor, to actually answer your question: yes, that's far too many fish for the tanks that they're in. There should really only be one fish per each of those tanks. And even though the amount of fish reduces aggression, it doesn't get rid of it. These fish should only be kept in solitude.

  • @tonicaddiction
    @tonicaddiction 6 ปีที่แล้ว +38

    I’m kinda worried about how many fish you have in each tank. The golden rule of thumb is 1 inch of fish per gallon of tank. If most betta reach 2 inches, and your tanks are 15 gallons, then that would be like 7 or 8 fish. It looks like you have way more than that. Plus with all the plants and decoration, that lessens the amount of water in the tank which lessens how many fish there can be. You seem to know what your doing, but your 15 gallon looks crowded.
    Edit: All of y’all need to chill oml I was just making an OPINION. I have seen some pretty retarded replies. Most of them have a pretty good argument tho, so ty for replying or else I wouldn’t learn. I would like to say that what I was saying was that each fish in the tank should be able to have its own gallon to itself if it wanted to get away from the other fish. Even with her tank heavily planted it almost looks impossible for a fish to get away from the other fish. And with that I will be referring to the top right tank. I myself do not have a large tank with many fish so what would I know right? She can do what she wants, since it’s clear her fish seem ok and clean. It’s just my opinion that it would be sad for a beta to be confined so closely to other fish or even other beta.

    • @klynt3617
      @klynt3617 6 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Navesepia NO. the 1 inch 1 gallon rule is WRONG. you cannot put a 10 inch oscar in a 10gallon, or a 15 inch arowana in a 15 gallon.

    • @tonicaddiction
      @tonicaddiction 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Well that’s obvious, but I’m talking about betta fish NOT fish of that size. This is a betta fish video, so I’m specifically talking about betta fish, and/or fish of the same size. Clearly I couldn’t put a 10 inch fish in a 10 gallon, and to even think that that’s what you interpreted is hilarious.

    • @bryce4611

      Navesepia the 1inch per gallon is absolute crap

    • @tonicaddiction
      @tonicaddiction 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand what your saying, but it’s kinda a perfect rule for betta fish. It ensures that each fish will be able to have its own space. Her fish however are clustered together in a heavily planted 15 gallon tank(I am aware heavily planted tanks are perfect for bettas), and the more things that are in the tank the less gallons of water you have. I’m simply implying that FOR BETTA FISH it is a good rule to go by. I myself do not have a community tank, so I don’t have room to talk, but I am educated enough about fish to know she has too many fish in that tank. The top right one to be exact. I don’t see an issue in the other two.

    Bettas aren’t the best option for a community tank. It doesn’t matter what gender the betta is, even though females are less aggressive than males, they still have the muscle to deal or even fight another betta. Bettas are very territorial, and each betta should have 2.5 gallons each and that’s only the minimum. Plus, your tank looks cramped with aggressive fish.
