This video has so much great information about the happijac and the near area! Thank you! I'm probably completely removing both seats if anyone has a need for them
Great tips! I've done many of the preventive things earlier, especially the screws that fastens the rails to the walls. I made new brackets for the lower bunks so they would position the bunk closer to the ceiling to give more headroom. Maybe you can try a set?
Thanks for watching. The brackets sound interesting. I'm sure that there are people that need every inch of headroom they can get. We're fine with how ours is now though. Thanks for the offer!
I just purchased a new 2022 toy hauler and the first thing I did was loctite the set screw ( still had one) on the shaft and put a hose clamp around the shaft to prevent it from sliding off if the set screw comes loose. My system actually had an extra C clip closer to the shaft as if to stop it from moving more than 1/2". I still used the hose clamp because it fit between the shaft and the clip and I don't trust a 1/16th" piece of metal stopping that heavy shaft. My next project will be replacing the self tappers with lag bolts to secure the rails better.
Yours is the newer configuration. Definitely an improvement over how the older ones like ours were done. Nothing wrong with adding some extra insurance!
The idea is yours, thank you. I just want to add a easy way and instead of drilling and fishing wires from above the sidewall lamp, I wire mine from the two tick wires next to happijac motor these wires have constant positive and negative
I have the '08 version Happy Jack and no problems until this year. One corner of the slider in the track would hang up then drop. A little silicon spray did the trick so I recommend that as maintenance every few years. Will be checking my set and wall screws as well. Thanks for the info Terry.

Hey, thanks for this video. I had some issues with the hex rod slipping out a while back, did some "creative fixing", but your method is better with the clamp. I think you indicated your problem was the rod slid from driver side to passenger side. Mine did the opposite and came out of the motor drive receptacle. Since I didn't even KNOW there was a set screw, I guess mine fell out prior to purchase! I'll be replicating your clamp fix *and* getting a set screw in place. Then I can remove my creative "woodwork" (horrible, until I found a better solution, which I have now!).
Thank you so much for this overview. I just bought a 2021 21G and had concerns about the bed system. I plan to make these mods tonight! I have also already ordered two more legs for the sofas. I also plan to add the lights under the bed as well. would you be willing to provide more details on how you ran the wire from the factory light to the ones you installed? Is the wire just lying on the bed, or did you install some sort of raceway? Did you put in a plug to remove the cord if needed? Where did you drill the hole to fish the wire down? Thanks!
Thanks Steve. The wiring is in flexible wire loom. I attached the loom to the bed base with plastic cable clamps and screws. I have a couple of spade connectors on the wires so I could remove them if needed but I seriously doubt I would ever need to remove that upper bunk. I drilled the hole just above the bed frame, directly above the push button light on the wall of the 31G. I'm not sure if that light exists on a 21G or not so you may have to find another source of 12 volt power.
@@stevecook7594 Glad to help however I can. I have several posts on our 31G/29G Facebook group with pictures including these lights and wiring if you do Facebook. facebook.com/groups/momentum29g31g
Hello Terry, thank you the video has helped me capture this before it happens. This is a safety issue with this product. The legs repositioning tip is a lifesaver. So, where is your link to order the legs? Sincerely, Barry.
Hi Michelle. Those are the Lippert Wall Armor doors. Came factory installed on our Momentum. Unfortunately Lippert only sells the doors to the manufacturers. It is possible to order them thru a dealer but unfortunately most dealers won't do it. facebook.com/156867451164286/posts/introducing-the-new-patio-wall-armor-available-to-oems-this-three-season-patio-w/996450433872646/
Could you do a video on removing the couches and modifying the lifts system to bring the bed down to a lower height, if that is possible. I personally think a separate bed room is a waste of space for 16 hours of the day and would like to make my bedroom into a storage room and laundry room.
Hey Terry, my issue with my lippert bed seems different than yours…I don’t have any issues sitting on the bench with just the one leg of support. But when I have the seats all folded flat, any time someone lays on the lower “bed” it caves in on the middle. Initially when I watched this video, I thought that was what you were correcting but you put two under the actual bench. It seems to me that the solo support for each headrest of a bench s hould be installed on the other bar (the one with the zipper) to actually make it well supported. My 28G is used so I thought perhaps someone installed it incorrectly, but after watching your video and others, they come that way from the factory. So I’m thinking I will add two supports just onto beef up the two middle “lay flat” portions of the benches. 1) I’m wondering if you think it would be better to mount them on the bar of each headrest that is closest to the MIDDLE of my rig (the one that has the zipper). The only disadvantage I could see to moving them to the bar closer to the middle is that there may be issues when trying to fold it back into seat mode. I’ve messed with it a bit and don’t think it would be an issue. What do you think? 2) how many holes do you have visible on each of your support legs for the actual bench version and how many do you have visible on the support legs for the “middle” portion of each bench (for the headrest)? I have two holes visible on my middle support legs, then only one whole visible on the outer support legs (the one you beefed up).
I would not mount the legs on the rollover section by the zipper. I think the legs will damage the upholstery on the lower section when they are in the seating position. My legs have the same hole configuration as yours.
I've been researching a solution to this issue and your questions are exactly what I'm wondering about. To put additional legs under the center portions or the bench portion. Mainly worried about mine in the bed position. It has a terrible hump in the middle.
Terry, you explained in another comment how you took the existing light off of the side wall and then splice the wires together from the retractable cigarette plug but my follow-up questions are: 1) how did you connect the wires from one light to another or how did you split the electrical cord that’s retractable to make sure it goes to both lights? 2) Second, after installing them I’m sure two lights makes it plenty bright but did you try it with just one light or what are your thoughts about lighting if there was just one? I accidentally ordered just one solo light by mistake and and I’m thinking of just going with one light to make things easier for myself because I’m by no means an electrician and save on cost a little
Hey Todd. The low voltage wiring is easy to splice. I ran wires from the coiled cord to the area in-between the lights and then spliced in to those wires using butt connectors to run wires to each light. One light might be ok but I feel like having two is really the best. Here's a link to a picture of the wiring layout on my Flickr page. flic.kr/p/2nGXW7a

Yeah. Fortunately not that expensive. As a newbie to your channel I was wondering if you've made any Black tank videos. And this may come off as comedy but am I the only one curious about how many s**ts it takes one person to fill a black tank before it requires a flush out? And how many days or weeks with full occupancy of healthy people in the RV before black tank needs to be emptied out. Awesome channel! I’m about to take delivery of a 2021 GD 31G to haul around my Can Am X3, so we seem to have similar intended uses. Tried to send you a direct message, but TH-cam doesn’t seem to let you do that. Anything in particular I should look for/be cautious of when I take delivery and before I drive away from the dealer?
Basically you need to thoroughly inspect everything. Make sure everything operates as it should. The dealer should have the trailer hooked to water and power for the inspection. GD has been very responsive if warranty repairs are needed but it is much better to catch anything that needs immediate attention before taking possession on the trailer. Tese trailer require a hitch that seems like overkill to pull well. I very much recommend the Weigh Safe 20k pull/2k tongue weight True Tow hitch. Do not let the dealer talk you into an inferior hitch. Our 31G has nearly 2k lbs of tongue weight loaded without the Talon. You must have a hitch rated for that. If you do Facebook we have a great group there just for the 29G and 31G trailers. I highly recommend joining. Tons of great info there. Here's the link. facebook.com/groups/momentum29g31g
Cheers for video! Can any one give me the min and max clearances between the bed frame and the tracks? I cant see any specs in the owners manual. Is there anything stopping me having the bed frame sit 10mm off, or do you need more clearance to get your hand in there for adjustments/pins?
My 28g is at the dealership dealing with his very issue as we speak they are not being very receptive to my issues. i took a tour through a 2021 momentum and noticed that the back beds have 4 drop down legs per side now . My dealership is horrible to deal with and basically said you are on your own with the issue. and as they were running the bed up and down in front of me to show me the $650 fix they did by adding more screws to the rails the whole left side bed fell to the ground. needless to say its still at the dealer ship.
The bed falling is absolutely the drive shaft issue that needs the fix in the video. Super simple to do it yourself if the dealer want a stupid amount to do it. Sounds like they already charged way too much for what they did on the rails. I replied to your email before I read your comments here.
Just out of curiosity, are you happy with your 28G? I have one on order, should be here this week. I am trying to do as much research as I can, but I can't find any owner reviews on TH-cam. I plan to haul 2 utility ATV's. I have a family of 4. My teenage girls will be using the top bed. It will also come with the 12 volt fridge, which will be new to me. I have heard GD is very good, however, there are a lot of mixed reviews online. With the price of these trailers I am a bit nervous. Any feedback would be very appreciated, from you or anybody with a G series. thanks,
@@2009reezen Yes and no. this is my third trailer and my second toyhauler . I had a 2010 Forrest river shockwave before this 26' and its on road manners were much better then the momentum. With the momentum it is important to make sure you machines are pushed a close to the front kitchen cabinets as possible or it will become very tongue lite . the first time out i didn't have my side by side far enough forward and at 50mph I almost lost the trailer it swayed so bad. (i haul with a 2020 ford f-350). The GD momentums look sexy but all in all I'm finding the build quality to be about on par with other trailers I have owned. I bought the trailer just before covid hit so I still have a regular 120v/propane fridge which is nice. And yes this trailer was one the more expensive side . my dealership sold the 2021's for 10k more then what i bought mine for and they are exactly the same except the rear bunks come with legs and mine were missing. one more thing. these trailers are HEAVY so a good diesel one ton is defiantly needed to haul it. anymore questions let me know .
@@swansong04 thank you for the reply. My tow vehicle is a 3/4 ton Cummins, so hopefully I won’t have any issues there. The weight distribution is concerning, I have heard others comment on there toys causing to much weight on the rear. Can you explain “road manners”? Or is the sway what you were referring to? I have a 30’ jayco today that goes very nice. Never had an issue. I am concerned if this trailer is going to be heavier and not tow well. Have you towed without the side by side? Any difference?
@@2009reezen I have towed the trailer empty and it definitely tows better however not as nice as my old shockwave. for instance I could drive 70mph all day long hauling my old trailer. this trailer just doesn't feel as nice behind the truck and maybe because its just that much heavier, I don't know. GD also pushes the axle gvw of these trailers to the limit. the axles are rated at 12000lbs and I weighed my trailer loaded and it was in the 11000lbs range. on a side note . there are other things i don't like but don't wanna nit pick too much.
Instead of the bolt why not just use the set screw but also put another hose clamp or Band over the set screw so it can't back out? Also could use two or three setscrews and install an split pipe over the hex drive to not allow it to slide even if no set screws.....
Gday Terry. while on a trip from Sydney Australia to Tasmania in my motorhome the passenger side bed dropped from my happijac bed lift, I got my tools out and dismantled the timberwork and yes found the little grub screw was not tight and allowed the shaft to slide back. So after watching your TH-cam will now bulletproof the shaft. Thank You. One other problem I have is just an annoying one, as we drive along in our motorhome the Happyjack bunk system has a constant rattle, it's not coming from the side chains and must be coming from the top bar. Have you any clue what's up there before I begin another dismantle. Helpful ***** Kind Regards Aussie Karl
Hello I have a question: if I use the top bed, can I leave the bottom bed at the same level of top bed w/o lowering it to the bottom, just need to use top bed and leave bottom bed as close as possible to the top suspended with top bed Is this ok?
what’s the trick of getting the top bed to the roof but keep fold down seats down below? when i use my button to lower the bed and seats the upper bed won’t go back up on its own the bench seating will follow it up.
Depends on which version you have but the latest version has 4 small gold levers one on each back corner of the lower couches that need to be flipped over to push the upper bed up and lock it in the up position. The upper bunk is pushed by the lowers. No way to operate it independent of the lowers.

@@terryhatfieldmin Great, thanks so much. I’ll join the group. And yes, I have the weigh safe true tow 2.5/20k being shipped to me now.
Did you add extra legs to the flip over back portion to?
You certainly could but I did not.
Instead of the bolt why not just use the set screw but also put another hose clamp or Band over the set screw so it can't back out? Also could use two or three setscrews and install an split pipe over the hex drive to not allow it to slide even if no set screws.....
You're welcome to go that way. I did what I thought was the best and simplest fix.
Gday
Terry. while on a trip from Sydney Australia to Tasmania in my motorhome the passenger side bed dropped from my happijac bed lift, I got my tools out and dismantled the timberwork and yes found the little grub screw was not tight and allowed the shaft to slide back.
Helpful *****
Kind Regards Aussie Karl
Hey Karl. Glad you found the video helpful! Sorry, I don't know what would be rattling.
Terry - my upper bunk lowers lopsided, motor side of bunk is lower but other side not lowering. Any suggestions?
Sounds like something is up with the transfer shaft.
Hello
I have a question: if I use the top bed, can I leave the bottom bed at the same level of top bed w/o lowering it to the bottom, just need to use top bed and leave bottom bed as close as possible to the top suspended with top bed
Is this ok?
Yes you can. Just stop the bottom wherever you want.
The LED lights, do I understand they’re hard wired with the one on the wall? How’s that work with the upper bed being raised and lowered?
They are hardwired. There is a link in the description for a coiled expandable cord. That allows for the upper bed to move and stay connected.
Link to a photo of the expandable cable setup. flic.kr/p/2kojvz5
what’s the trick of getting the top bed to the roof but keep fold down seats down below? when i use my button to lower the bed and seats the upper bed won’t go back up on its own the bench seating will follow it up.
Depends on which version you have but the latest version has 4 small gold levers one on each back corner of the lower couches that need to be flipped over to push the upper bed up and lock it in the up position. The upper bunk is pushed by the lowers. No way to operate it independent of the lowers.
@@terryhatfieldmin Thank you. I am pretty Confident I have the exact same version as you! love your videos. Keep them coming.
Are you happy with your trailer?
Very much so! It's been great. Perfect trailer for us.
@@terryhatfieldmin I bought the 21 foot and so far I’ve been happy no major issues Thanks for the video
