    It may not be the deadliest virus, but it may be one of the most destructive economically. It's really unfortunate and sad to see all of the effects this virus has caused throughout the planet.

    • @nightmocha9345
      @nightmocha9345 4 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Its not so much the virus as it is how the people decided to respond. Like, really, who in their right mind would buy toilet paper in such large amounts? To prevent the spread of the virus, everyone has to be hygienic, not just them individually. Hoarding all that soap and hand sanitizer is just gonna make that more difficult, which in turn is going to make the spread of the virus much faster.
      But that won't stop the kids of managing to spread it quickly regardless of.

    • @Chaos89P
      @Chaos89P 4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@nightmocha9345 Supposedly, the toilet paper issue is a unrelated circumstance that happened at possibly one of the worst times imaginable. From what I can remember hearing, Australia media had been reporting a *possible* toilet paper shortage leading people to freak out and buy toilet paper _en masse_ causing an actual shortage. Of course, people being who they are, took wind of the shortage in Australia and started doing the same thing here. We probably would've ended up with a mass toilet paper shortage even without mutant SARS lurking around the corner.

    • @nightmocha9345
      @nightmocha9345 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@Chaos89P See, even if the toilet paper is unrelated, there is still the problem that they are also buying every other product that helps with sanitation, such as hand sanitizers and soap.

    It's good that the Japanese find alternatives to help humanity's hope of survival during this time of crisis. Many of us have been trying to stay away from the news (and social media) because it displays constant fear about the virus that is affecting us mentally. But at least this will help bring something positive to light with superstition
    Although, I did remember reading online a few weeks ago, about how some Japanese companies put curses on toilet paper to whoever steals them :/

    i just realized something. that fish girl kind of reminds me of fwench fwy. fwench fwy is a dragon who grants wishes and brings good fortune. i think they showed up around when the pandemic started, more, or less. perhaps fwench fwy and the fish girl are both symbols made to give hope and comfort during these circumstances. maybe thats what the chinese dragons from that episode of the simpsons where homer pretended to be selma's husband so she could adopt a chinese baby meant when they sang the words "when we wake, the world will end" maybe those dragons intend to bring good fortune during an unfortunate time, like fwench fwy

    A virus fighting Yokai that looks like a teeny mermaid? YES PLEASE! Merpeople are a lifelong love of mine, and I think (human) people everywhere could stand to take a step back and think about things that will matter far beyond the projected duration of this "king of the viruses". I was just composing cards and stuffing them with coloring pages my sister and I had colored the other night; I have done this to say "Miss you/thinking of you" to friends and family far away ever since I graduated from college. But now more than ever, I believe it is important to have color and creativity in our lives, and to enrich ourselves with self-care, artwork, literature and culture. This is exactly the spirit that this amabie campaign captures as a symbol of faith that this virus will soon end.
    Thank you for this video, Gaijin. I have the feeling that even long after this "crown virus" has run its course, it will be one of your most popular. Call it a slight count of bias from a lifelong mermaid lover, but 'amabie' honest with you about this video being the exact thing people need right now. This goes for regular watchers of your content and casual visitors as well.
