You did what so many others have done. The composer of Laura is David Raksin, not Raskin (which you have on your lead sheet).

Trivia: It's a long story (which I have researched and written about at length) David Raksin at 23 was the first of the creatives of the material that turned into the song 'Smile' (1954) that is widely incorrectly attributed to Charlie Chaplin. It is in Raksin's 1993 autobiography. This was his first job in Hollywood. He went on to be known as the Father of Film Music. Essentially he took a melody from Puccini's Tosca and created the romantic theme of the movie Modern Times, as instructed.
The song itself was written by Jimmy Phillips (as John Turner, his middle names) and Geoffrey Parsons in the UK. It borrowed the romantic melody that Raksin created in 1935 for the movie. Chaplin simply owned the copywrites to everything in the movie, including the film score. No song, or passage, or theme existed at that time called 'Smile'. In the film score, this section is identified as Femme.
Additionally, Chaplin's own autobiography of 1966 makes no mention of a song called 'Smile'. I found that the word 'smile' occurs 89 times in the book, but none refer to a song. A brief reference on his official website acknowledges that the song was written by others by referring to them in the third person.
Listen to Tosca (about 15 minutes in) and then read the Raksin autobiography talking about the creative process when working for Chaplin, and how Parsons and Phillips came to write the song in England in 1954 (several sources for this). I would suggest, had they known the theme came from Tosca, they would/could/should have credited Puccini instead of Chaplin. Perhaps this was not known in 1954.

Tony, I just now discovered this video and man, it is terrific! LAURA was one of the first songs I ever learned when I took up piano at age 13, and the chords you revealed were the chords which I always knew lurked deep beneath the haunting melody, but which I could never find. Until now. The F#-6/G6 lead into the G-7 is a great example. Another knockout chord is the C over Bb7 shell in the turnaround (substituting for the E+) between the 1st and 2nd verse. So many more. Killer stuff!! Thanks so much!!

Dear Mr. Winston: I'm a daily viewer of your TH-cams! , for the simple fact that I've "chosen" you as my virtual piano teacher. I studied music about forty five years ago, when I was young, to play a Hammond spinet organ. Due to life circumstances, I had to stop playing it over twenty five years ago; however, now I'm back into music, this time playing piano. The piano technique being different, I am refreshing my musical knowledge and trying to use your videos (and knowledge!) as my back-up and guidance in this musical adventure of mine. I've visited other virtual piano teachers in the web but, so far, it's been the easiest, most pleasant and rewarding experience for me learning from you. Currently, I'm working on your version of Laura, a classical standard and one of my favorites, having had to change certain chord positions, given that my hands are small. I'm also working on Never let me go, a song I didn't know of but that, to me, it's as classical and romantic as Laura. I concur with you on your comment about the classical and baroque style some standards seem to offer. Most certainly, these two, Laura and Never let me go, are fine examples of musical simplicity that lend a good base for arranging and embellishing. Sir, I'm counting on you for your musical knowledge and teaching expertise, so I may achieve my musical goal. Thank you very much for sharing.

That s great job Tony. Thanks a lot ! I still didn' t have time to stop at the piano to understand the "B" part of the song, the diminish sequence of chords, but I will. I can hardly remember or sing that part, for me is so confused, I've been hearing this song since your first video launch.

I did !! Thanks for the great class, thanks to you I can play another beautifull song. Of course I don't go nuts like your diminish sequence, but I can play in a way someone can understand (not so many complex arrangement). By-the-way I ve printed the Real Book version, and I don't agree with the chords did you check that already ?

I Fall in Love too Easily is such a sweet and delicate song with very short form. I can play the ballad, but am having a darn time figuring out some nice quartile comping and left rootless voicings for a ballad improv. I think “what would Tony do”? 😂. Got an answer for that?

Hi Tony, l recently found your channel and l think it is fantastic.
Sincerest thanks for all your work.
I have what is probably an unusual request and l can only hope it is equally intriguing.
I'm a great fan of a guitarist named Ralph Towner. l find his compositions fascinating and, apparently, so does pianist (the late) John Taylor. He covered one of Ralph's tunes called 'Tramonto' on his trio album called 'Rosslyn'.
Unusual, to say the least, for a pianist to cover a guitar player's composition.
He has another tune called 'The Pendant' on an album called 'Time Line' that l think has the most unusual changes, quite unique.
It may not be of interest to you or even germaine to your channel's mission but, l would be thrilled to hear your analysis of the harmony of either tune.
Either way, l am very appreciative of all you do, and, this long time guitarist/hack beginner pianist is learning a lot.
    Many thanks.
