This dance is part of the Darangen epic of the Maranao tribe and is enlisted in UNESCO's intangible heritage list together with Hudhud of the Cordillera. None of the lowland dances were enlisted despite their cultural significance like Darangen and Hudhud.

Some says it is based on weath , royal blood lineafe etc. But others also says that , it is based on the wittiness & willingness of the person and that he has lived and known the place for a long time? :) I can't find any article on the net.. A sultan is similar to a king. So a Sultan usually inherits the throne via blood/family lineage. The enthronement process depends on tradition for a country or a sultanate. Historians/Culture specialists could help you on this matter. As far as the net, you can search for "choosing a sultan" for a start. :)
