Kind of wants me to start playing again, but I'm scared of putting too many hours into gaming rather than focussing on real life. Anyways, fun to listen to your thoughts!
I’ll never forget the first osrs player I met irl he was my coworker and I had a 1700 on my Ironman , I got him back into the game but then realized he was a complete noob he was come into work talking about all night he was fishing lobsters and bro was a member and a normal account. I tried telling him how to become a big boss but bro was just set on slow ass methods he used as a kid , which is fine but as expected he quit the game before getting to even 1000 total
It’s kinda sad cuz the best part of the game too me is finding ways to save time cuz the game is unbeatable unless your a god at saving time, but to him he just wanted to be some peasant fishing lobsters cool ig 🐸

My friends have told me it doesn’t really save much time, but I just don’t like walking while I’m doing runecrafting and don’t want to use my staminas. I’m also an iron
"this guy does alot of weed perhaps" felt that, i was liek yoo i agree with that guy. i think its adhd and/or weed. cause i need the perfect videos to skill to lol and finding it will take me 30 min sometimes
You're entire video was bashing on people for not being efficient. But it's a game, I play my main right now like it's an iron man, even though it isn't. Who cares? It's a MMORPG, however people want to play they can. It's not for some people to maximize efficiency.
Plenty of people in that thread are being really salty and silly, but I think in many cases it's just a tendency to be hyperbolic about shallow impressions and not truly understanding what they like and why they like it. Tho there are definitely plenty of fools in the player base, I don't think it's fair to reduce these immature takes to "these are the kind of ppl voting in polls". RS is about the grind, it is about setting goals and achieving them, but it also is about a lotta other stuff. I like hitting my 99s in a timely manner, but I also feel joy in the sense of adventure and wonder quests can provide. I think it's reasonable to say quests are also an integral part of the game - and yet I know maxxed players who think the game would be better without ANY quests. All that said, even tho I love quests, I'm not bothered by these ppl's take, and the fact they vote accordingly. Runescape offers such a variety of content that you can't really expect most ppl to enjoy it completely in all its aspects - even some that are fundamental to what makes the game what it is. From an efficiency perspective, many ppl can do illogical things. But if they are really enjoying the path they chose and finding it fun, while the alternative would feel boring, then I don't think it is logical to say they made the wrong choice necessarily, even if they are delaying other content for themselves. It's not just about hitting the lvl ups, journey vs destination yadda yadda. The game is mainly about super long repetitive gameplay loops with rewards at the end, and sometimes the loop enjoyment matters more than the reward. That being said, I feel confident betting my left kidney that a substantial amount of anti high efficiency discourse comes from a place of cope and/or immaturity. Sometimes ppl will be missing out on great content they would love for a long time because they are needlessly averse to trying to be more efficient. The part where you said that guy was protecting about carpal tunnel is accurate. Tick manips make the game richer and more rewarding with a higher skill ceiling, and ppl complaining about their existence is problematic. However, I believe not that many ppl are so irrationally against it. I'd say the average opinion is that maybe high efficiency methods and gameplay are not their cup of tea in some scenarios, but rewarding other ppl who want to go through the trouble is perfectly fine. Your video gave me a moment of reflection about this game I love so much, and I thank you for the opportunity to have an engaging conversation.
Great thoughts! As for the comment about these being the people who vote, I was more saying that jagex has to consider these kinds of players when designing and polling content. Along with other kinds of players of course
@TheDuckChris yeah I don't envy their job at all. Such a tricky balancing act. The proposed blood rune crafting alternative for irons might not pass bc ppl may not even understand what it actually does. Polling is a blessing and a curse haha.
@@TheDuckChris for context, I started 2 years ago. I’ve made 3 Ironmemes and I deironed my current “main” account at 1000. Currently 1650. Had to pause for second at 2:45 to say this, cause I have seen this kind of bias before in other game communities, and its important context for people talking about the community or how the devs react/cater to the community and proposed content. There are a little more than 750k visitors to the 2007Scape Reddit and 350k to Runescape Reddit, compared to almost 300mil RS accounts, I know bots and people with multiple accounts and RS3 players and such but the point stands. 2007scape Reddit might maybe be a decent representation of an average bank stander in 307 or something, but those people are actually way more invested than the actual ~average~ player. The actual average of the entire player base probably does not know what tick manipulation even is, let alone have an opinion if it's worth doing. The bottom 25% of people who have played the game probably never made it to 30 combat. Maybe its fair to ignore that sometimes because the same people who will see videos like this are also on the Reddit, but when it comes to talking about how people should respond to noob updates and stuff then the context of what actual noobs and truly average players look like means a lot more.
@TheDuckChris This was only the second video of yours I've seen, I want to say up front that I do really like the videos despite the argument I'm about to make. I wanted to know a bit more about your opinions around average players before I kept going, so I went and watched your ramble 32 video, and I think you're almost exactly the kind of player that I feel could use this perspective. You say in that video that because the average total level in 2020 was like 1450ish, the average now is probably around 1700. I believe that is probably not true. As you describe 1500 is about the point where people go "oh this is really slowing down, and getting hard", and I think way more people just quit there than you are assuming. I would say it's probably enough people leaving at that point and getting replaced by actual new players that the average probably has not changed almost at all. I agree with you that the opinions of people who aren't actually invested shouldn't shape the game, it's just where that line gets drawn that I'm debating. I know those 1500 folks have barely played the game compared to the maxers, and they haven't seen arguably most of what the game has to offer, but they have already probably put more time in here than any AAA game's full campaign time, and making changes to keep them around may be worth it for the game overall. I'd like to hear your opinions on some of the other summer blog poll questions, like the mid-game boss, because I think there are ways forward that can work for both groups. Sorry for the book, keep up the great content and discussions.
@@Tuygz6470 id love to see some numbers from jagex because based on sailing poll (168k players voting) the average certainly seems to be in the 1500-2k range. And idk how much more active players we have beyond 170k ish. And by active I mean play at least like 20 hours a month. As for the summer summit ideas I really like the mid level boss. I talked about a similar idea in the game jam videos. I do really think there's a gap to be bridged from 0 pvm knowledge to the mid level, and mid to high as well. Varlamore ofc sounds great
People who like tick manipulation are akin to Gnomonkey using 20 different plugins to make the game easier while begging for harder content. Just play the game the way it's meant to be played or don't complain and play it the way you want.
I actually really dislike things Gnomemonkey says, even before it became popular to do so just recently. However, I do like some tick manipulations, and I don't feel like I am like him. Maybe that's a sound comparison, I just don't like it
@@TheDuckChris it literally doesn’t. It goes from a game that the creator himself didn’t intend to make that drives carpel tunnel for the sake of maybe 30-40% extra exp gains because they’re too lazy to fix the way in game ticks work.
@@bknighty28 the game works the way it works nothing needs to be "fixed" about ticks. Speeding up skilling rewards more effort and it can be fun to get into the faster rhythm
Tick manipulation is inefficient, and people don't realize it. Unless you are going for 200m or have to hit a deadline in reaching a level, tick manipulation is terribly inefficient because it requires you to actively focus your APM on that account. Why tick manipulate woodcutting experience for marginal benefits, when I can afk redwoods on 4 accounts while grinding boss pets or endgame achievements? Tick manipulation is a trap that costs you far more time in the long run; if anyone is intent on playing the game to its fullest, then running multiple accounts at once is far more important than getting an extra 40k mining experience an hour.
