Well, I'll attempt an answer to your question. Essentially, as I see it, the first thing we can acknowledge is that none of the relationships on this show are healthy or normal. Bearing that in mind, the dynamic between Roman and Gerri is certainly not one any of us normal folks would want in our relationships, however, there are a lot of moments throughout the series between them that are tender and heartwarming: his defending her in the S2 finale when Logan wanted to sacrifice Gerri; Gerri going to see Roman in "Hunting" the morning after boar on the floor. There are certainly more, but it's moments like that that tie the whole dynamic together. Also, the chemistry between the two actors is such that they sort of impose their real life dynamic onto Gerri and Roman's relationship, so a lot of what viewers are reacting to is the natural chemistry between J. Smith-Cameron and Kieran Culkin. Just my thoughts. If you don't like them, that's fine too.
