    Found the switch on Amazon, did the repair, saved at least 500 bucks. Thank you!

    Dude You're Awesome! This saved me $500+ ! I didn't even use the picks to remove. I removed the centered switch then popped out the outer case. After realizing I had the new switch in upside down, it was an easy plug in. I used an eyeglass screwdriver (real small one) to pop out the plug. Alohaaaaaaaa

    This worked for me, thanks Tommy. Here was my experience fixing this switch on our 2015 Macan: It took me around 45 minutes total - 40 minutes trying to release the two clips closest to the window side - that was really a narrow space - or maybe I didn't have the right tool for the job (I was using a thin strip of metal). Once the old switch was out, it was easy. The wiring harness was long enough I could unplug by hand, no pliers needed. The new switch, from Amazon, looks stronger that the original switch, which looks pretty flimsy. We'll see.

    Let me make sure that I make this clear. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I am so relieved that it’s an easy fix. I broke it on my Porsche 911 turbo today, and all I could think about was…. this is going to be so expensive.

    Sharing my experience. Replaced my switch by taking the door panel out. The clips were so tight I had a hard time releasing them from the inside, there was no way I was going to pry it out from the top. Do not force it out as the clips will get even more lodged in position. Use a tool to press on the clips to release it with minimal force. The cable is so short it's not possible to put back from the top. If you damage the door panel, it could cost thousands to replace.

    Thank you for the video. Was an easy fix with the plastic tool kit from Amazon. Glad I didn't try to take apart the door panels. This was much, much easier and less likely for me to mess something up.

    I have the same problem with my GL450, and was dreading having to take the door panel off to swap the switch module. Your way never occurred to me, so thanks for saving me much time and irritation. :)

    Can anybody tell me which plier tool is thin & long enough? Can’t seem to find one
    Much appreciated

  • @bradduholke1516

    Absolutely not doble. The Wiring harness does not give you enough slack to connect the new switch. You are not helping here Tommy

      probably depends on the model, what model was yours that failed?

    • @bigekai
      @bigekai ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no luck as well due to the harness extension is too short.
      Need to take down the door panel.

    • @kornkid8600
      @kornkid8600 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got it done in about ten minutes. But the plier doesn't help unclip it per se, the clip that you need to depress has such a small area of space you are better off using a pick at an angle like the metal pick he uses. Then use the plier to hold the harness towards the new switch. Holding it firmly and in the same direction you can clip it. I got it done.

    I just broke my driver's window switch. Porsche should make the driver's window button out of metal similar to their other metal switches. The driver's window button gets used way more. It should be beefed up.

    High probability you will scratch your panels---it only takes like 8 minutes to take it off.

    I changed mine today… now the child lock button is on… when I press it, I get the child lock fault error message on the dash. Have you ever heard of that happening? Is there a way to reset the fault??

    • @TommyLGarage
      @TommyLGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I get you this is a faulty switch. I’ve heard someone having the same issue.

      You think I should just order another switch?? Seems crazy that all the other buttons work…

    • @TommyLGarage

      @@DKrieff definitely. Or plug the old one back in to see if all is back to normal.

    • @DKrieff
      @DKrieff ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely not a simple reset from Porsche?? You heard of someone having the same issue?? The switch I bought was 58.00 on Amazon… and a perfect match. I’m wondering if I can replace it with same one…

      @@TommyLGarage So... here's what happened. I took out the the Amazon one that was keeping the Child Lock button RED and activated, and back seat controls deactivated. I put the old OEM one back in. After putting the OEM broken one back in... the fault went away. I ordered a new one from Amazon... after putting that new one in I have a similar but opposite fault. The child lock doesn't activate at all... and when you press it, the dashboard fault comes on. The back seat controls are active... but cannot be deactivated. I just ordered an OEM switch from Porsche.
