    Thanks for the tips Don. I can’t even count how many times you saved the day at camp in Colorado.

    Even though I converted my Hennessy hammock to be able to pitch it as a small tent, it's not optimal, because it wasn't designed for that. There may be a Haven XL in my future. Thanks for the Haven hacks. There's a chance that you've spent more time in a Haven than anyone.

    I cut a piece of reflectix into the shape of my pad in the haven, and put it under the pad. Helps significantly with the warmth, and also adds some structure.

    Reflectix from Home Depot can be put under the air mattress

    • @MotoGiant
      @MotoGiant  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Reflectix is EXPENSIVE, noisy, and fragile (it will not last very long laying on it) and I am all about building materials, mostly because they are cheaper, better built many times - sadly this is not this case here :(

    I've been looking at a new hammock tent system, and stumbled upon the Haven tent. Watched a couple videos but this video sold me. I'm not backpacking it, it would live in my Jeep as my primary solo camping set up or for my two kids when we have the camper. I use my awning on the jeep as my over head raincover and set the hammock at the edge of the awning to provide an area to move around. Very similar to this set up. Good informative vid.

      Hey man, this is the only video I have left up - for those that HAVE a haven already - turns out they are not as reliable as I had hoped, and have let a lot of folks down. Very comfy when they work, but...... Just got a Hennesey I will be reviewing in a few weeks - stay tuned!

    Use a traditional sleeping bag quilt( aka square). Sew in button fasteners to quilt and hammock. Pop on buttons for installing

    What do you thihk about cutting up a foam mat to make sides for where your arms and shoulders go, and a foam mat under the pad. I use a Onewind down underquilt for hammock camping but I notice when I move around it can suck in a gulp of cold air

      I hope they can sort the problem, obviously using a different material. It would be better if they partnered with an established trusted brand to supply the pads, and a range of them for different climates

    Your Haven reviews are what helped me decide to pull the trigger. I am not new to canoe-hammock camping. My question to you is the "pad". Are you having to make "air adjustments in the middle of the night when temp drops. My pad "V"s out and becomes uncomfortable enough to wake me up....I did make an under-pad out of "reflectix" and that seemed to help a bunch with the mattress heat lost but not perfect. Any suggestions from what you might have experienced would be great appreciated! Happy Trails!

    • @MotoGiant
      @MotoGiant  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure it is not a leak? Stand it up fully inflated on a wall in your house (where there is no temp changes at night) if the mat has distorted or fallen overnight you have a leak - a common warranty claim- let me know what happens?

    • @jimfromoregonusa9899

    • @MotoGiant

    I have the XL and like it my only problem is the sleeping pad loosening air. If I fill the pad with air just befor getting in in the. Middle of the night will need to top off again. On my second pad . Would you know of any other pads to fit? If I can not this resolved I will have to it others maybe an Amok 5.0

    The Shock cords are a good idea. I really do wish they had a big ground sheet that could double as a hanging storage shelf and a footprint for when it is in tent mode. I have been Moto-Camping a lot with the safari with a motorcycle camp group. This year I got the onewind Premium 12ft Hammock Rain Fly from Amazon so that I can change because there are some women who motorcamp and I don't want to scare them when I come out of the haven all nude. Ha ha

    How big of a difference in size is the warbonnet tarps when packed down? I'm looking at the Superfly but am unsure if I should get a 11' or 13' and how small they pack down might help me decide. If it's not a huge difference I may go with the bigger one.

    • @MotoGiant
      @MotoGiant  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a huge pack difference, but after getting the 13', I decided it is easier to find the trees to fit the 11', gonna get to THAT video eventually, and talk about what I have found out with a simple 2' difference...it's more than you might think?

    Do you ever use the Haven whoopie slings? I'm a big guy too and I found they didn't hold my weight. I think they only have two inches of space when they run inside themselves so I've been forced to use only the straps. I tried warbonnet straps but you can tighten the buckles too much which makes it impossible to take apart without a tool... I almost had to cut them!

    • @MotoGiant

    Hi , Don . I'm thinking about going to a hammock sleep system because I don't like sleeping on the ground either . But I would feel more comfortable sleeping higher up in the air than you do . My question to you is aren't you afraid a bear or a pretty girl might climb in with you while hanging so low ? Where I'm at in Florida my worry is a gator or a girl that looks like a gator might slip in with me if I'm not up in the air enough . Can you set me straight and help me overcome my fear of hanging too low ? Thanks , your a pal !

    looking forward to WILD HEART bag vedio

    • @Liberty4Ever
      @Liberty4Ever ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 66L Wild Heart waterproof roll top duffel bag that I strap onto the rear rack and pillion as my only bag for moto camping. The build quality is fairly good. It's a heavy duty bag. I got it because it was large enough to serve as my only bag, the dimensions worked on my bike (many larger bags were the same height and width but were just longer, and I needed a taller bag to have the needed volume without hanging off the back of the rack), and it has D ring tie downs on the bottom of the bag. Most waterproof duffel bags have tie downs near the top, which is dumb. That compresses the entire bag, and as the bag compresses while traveling the tie downs loosen. An even bigger issue for me was tying down the top of the bag made it difficult to open and close the bag when it's attached to the bike. Tying the base of the duffel bag to the rack keeps the tie downs short and it doesn't compress the bag, so I can open the duffel bag when it's on the bike, root around inside, and seal the bag again. Easy peazy.

      @@Liberty4Ever I have the 100L bag and very impressed so far with the quality - after a week in the rain so far, not a drop. Anxious to see how much gear I can get into it

    • @Liberty4Ever

      @@MotoGiant - 100 liters? You could fit Big Bertha in there! I assume you're mounting that bag sideways across the rear rack and/or pillion and across the tops of two panniers? I look forward to your video.
      The large top bag should clean up your gear. I try to avoid lashing several bags to the rack, a gallon jug of water, yesterday's socks, a plastic Dollar Store shopping bag, adventure crocks, a six pack of beer and a bag of Funyons. The Beverly Hillbillies look won't get you kicked out of the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America, but they'll say unkind things about you after you leave Starbucks.
      I'd love an 80-100 liter roll top waterproof duffel bag that was taller, with a footprint of 24" X 16" (the size of my 66L Wild Heart duffel), but taller. I need to do some longer duration camping to work out what works best. I like the concept of storing everything together, but that doesn't work in practice. I definitely don't want wet stuff stored inside a dry bag with the stuff I need to keep dry, but I also want to keep the luggage as simple as possible. Maybe I can flatten my learning curve by adapting what's working for you in the very real world. As an engineer, I believe that one good test is worth 8,367 expert opinions.
