I’m happy they made it for the Speedy nerds. But the 3861 sapphire sandwich black dial is the perfect Speedy for me. Wasn’t going to get a Speedy but then they made this one.

(So was passiert selbst Omega) Auf dem Tachymeter Ring steht für die Zahl 200 die Zahl 220 !!! Omega selbst schweigt über die Anzahl der hergestellten Fehldrucke. Ich selbst fand im Internet bzw. in Fachzeitschriften insgesamt nur noch 4 Exemplare.

Found out that TAG Heuer became the official timekeeper in F1 and made some watches based off of the sport. So I went back down the rabbit-hole of things I'll never afford and spent ~30 minutes looking for a watch that caught my eye. While I would probably make anyone interested in watches cringe just from being within a mile of me, this watch does seem really good. And so does this video, so thanks for making it!
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on AMZWATCH 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
Went into an AD who told me they had received my white Speedy Pro and almost bought the FOIS instead when I saw but then I convinced them to hold both watches for me for 24h and when I really thought about it and looked at both for a long time, I just couldn't live with the white hands... If the white hands had been better executed I would have gone with the FOIS instead of the white so totally agree with you
Good review Andy and I have to say, I totally agree. I'm not keen on the blue black dial as it makes the dial look smaller and I already own a black hesalite beauty. The contrast of the aged lume and bright handset just doesn't work for me. I too prefer the white dial, I think it's a superb alternative and one I would also consider adding to the collection
Great review of the situation, and the various ways this FOIS either fits into your life or doesn't based on what you own or want to add. I've tried on both the Speedy Pro and FOIS on bracelet at a boutique, and must say that i really like the way the FOIS visually sits on my wrist, with a little less volume than the Pro. But the dial and hands is where the decision gets complicated for someone like me that wants only one Speedmaster. My reality is the 321 Ed White is the perfect dial/hands/case. But that price, and even preference for the movement makes the 3861 sapphire sandwich very hard to beat.
Good comparison and showing the differences. My AD in MD says they won’t get any until the end of the year. The boutique offered to put me on the list if I paid refundable 100% deposit up front- no thanks. I gave my AD a very small deposit to get on his list. I’m in no rush. I currently have a gold/stainless 3861, great watch.
I’ve got the original FOIS and can tell you the highly polished alpha hands are actually very legible even in low light. There’s no good way to photograph them hence it looks like they make the watch illegible but actually it’s not a problem.
Nice looking watch but not thrilled with the "glitzy" bracelet. I have a 3861 Speedy Sapphire which I love . I did store its bracelet and got a Forstner Bullet bracelet for everyday wear. It has a milled clasp with seven adjustments, tapers to 16mm and looks right at home on the Speedy. It was $185 and if it gets banged around a bit, so be it. It was well worth it. If i want to dress the watch up I put the OEM bracelet back on. It looks great with a sport or suit jacket. I also have an Artem black sailcloth strap which mates well with any Speedy. It's always good to have choices.

Absolutely correct about the white of the hands needing to be off-white. That's quite a mismatch, at least to my eyes. So obvious; not sure how they missed this.
I was one of the ppl that bought the FOIS when it was 4 grand and sold it for 5k. I dearly miss it. I wish I never sold it. It's also upsetting they brought back the watch... I don't know much about this new FOIS, but the discontinued one definitely wore smaller on the wrist which I absolutely loved with no crown guards. I also agree the white hands need to be an off-white ivory to match the faux patina.
I love watches, but prices are stupid these days (IMO) - as much as I may want, and can afford one, I just don't see the value anymore (not just Omega, but all the big names are playing the same game)
I really should shouldn't I. I like the 41mm over the 43. The Spitfire is worth a look, but for me the titanium AMG version is the pick. That's not to detract from the steel blue and green dial variants. Go try and don't forget to ask for some money off. Nothing ventured.......
Good review. I'll admit that each time I see it, my "alarm bell" goes off. Disclaimer here: I've got a 24 black Speedy SS. I *get* the provenance thing. I really do, but it does seem like a marketing watch imho. Lots of similiarities to the Ed White for those that can't justify that entry price. Will it sell? Oh, without a doubt! My friend already has an Ed White and is looking at FOIS as a semi-daily. Personally, I just can't see past the marketing and the "chop-shop" look of the watch! LOL! But in reality, it's an opinion and that's all

Couple of things. 1 if you play the video at 1.25 speed it's like it should be in the team world. 2 if you buy from an ad you can get 10% discount. Just ask them. I always get the discount
Asking Speedy lovers to consider not using the term “milky ring “ when describing their sapphire Speedy. This icon deserves better. An alternative term would be “moonlight ring” which I believe is more appropriate for the moon watch. Saw the new FOIS in person and I believe Omega made a mistake making the dial so dark. JLC just came out with a blue grey dial which would have been perfect for the FOIS in my opinion. Also it suffers the same issue as the original: at some angles in certain light conditions you can’t see some of the hands. The new sapphire crystal that looks like hesalite is genius however.
I like the white dial speedy,white dials in general actually,.I own a white dial but I’m also on the lookout for a mint Tokyo Olympics with the red bezel and just like the watch for what it is rather than the heritage.
I have it as well as the first edition FOIS. Moreover I also have the more expensive Apollo 8. I guess doubly stupid. I have even more speedies than that, so I’m more than a double dumb. We’ve had 5 new moon / space watch releases with the 3861 movement this year….its been a good year for moon watch & space watch enthusiasts after the steady diet of two register “Speedmasters” we’ve had to endure. I guess Omega knows that in hard economic times appeal to your loyal fan base (those of us who saw the moon missions as school kids and have the means to collect the speedy our childhood heroes wore).
Just don’t get the Omega Speedmaster at all. I’ve tried. I’ve got an Omega. Seamaster. But for me the bracelets haven’t evolved in 20, hell, 30 years. Their bracelets, given the price, always come up short. It’s very frustrating. Just can’t do a damn bracelet. They need to bin all bracelets and start again.
As a watch enthusiast with NO budget, thank you MAMACOO for great-looking mechanical watches that I can afford! their are very clean, classy look, $150 each. I still watch videos about expensive “proper” watches, but I enjoy what I have
@ for its time it was outstanding. The 1873 is equivalent without the fragility of the column wheel. And I doubt it’s the greatest chronograph ever ! Any Quartz chronograph or dare I say smartwatch is far superior to any mechanical chronograph out there. I own an 1861 and it’s accuracy is outstanding regardless not being COSC or METAS certified. And the Zenith El Primero high beat at 36,000 being an automatic chronograph may have something to say about being best as well . At the end of the day anyone actually wearing a wristwatch is ok in my book mechanical or otherwise.
I absolutely love watches, the high end watch brands are out of my budget but the MAMACOO has literally an almost duplicate of every single watch on the market . Always a great but no matter your budget.
Every new release your review is: a step too far 😂 all you brits doing reviews for omega are the same. And u can be divided into two categories. Category 1 is one step too far. Category 2 tudor lovers hoping for tiny dials. But at the end of day you are stingy collectors hoping to convince yoursef that you have the better model so you wont have to spend another penny 😂

Apart from the price and super shine casebook, I like it.
I’ll go and try. Now, my Seamaster NTTD has lume issues. The dial lume is peeling off in areas whereas the bezel lume is falling off ☹️

Hesalite Professional on a bracelet. I'm biased as it's one I have but it's still the one to go for.
Agree, but the sapphire is a nice option also with the applied logo. Plenty for sale at good prices out there.

I’m sticking with my original FOIS numbered edition, which I love and bought second hand box and papers for a little over 3.5k pounds 👍

I think the fautina on this one is just too much. You are right that it is a mismatch with the white hands. I prefer the old fois.
The FOIS looks bigger and out of proportion on videos. Could be the 19mm end lugs...?

Not for me, I'm a 1960s nerd, my Speedies are from that era. Ideally that FOIS should have a 321 movement.

You do realize that the 321 movement beats at 18,000 (2.5 Hz) and the *861 beats at 21,600 (3 Hz) ?
