    I have 2016 Audi A7 TDI. I broke the glow plug in, and while trying to drill it out, broke the drill bit also inside. Made a mess while trying to get these two out. Now as per 4 different mechanics, I have to replace the driver side cylinder head.
    Please tell me based on your experience that for this job,
    1) Does engine has to be dropped or this task can be done with engine on?
    2) If engine has to be dropped, does timing chain has to come off?
    3) My car has 116,000km, and from 96,000 when I bought it, I did oil change after every 10,000km or when car says on display, so still is it good to replace timing chain now and all related parts, while engine is out or this timing chain part can be skipped? Fyi, I do 90% highway driving.
    Please do reply cuz once I finalize I have to tow my car to mechanic shop, and before that time I have to have details knowledge to be able to make best decision.
    4) To do Cylinder head replacement and timing chain, will be around how many hours job? One shop told me total 26 hrs, is it about correct??

      Hello. Engine would definitely need to be dropped, as well as timing chains and cylinder head. Cylinder head will need to be either refurbished or new and we also recommend to replace timing chains, but that's up to you. This whole process would take around 30 hours, and in our garage it would cost around £3500 (without timing chains, as that is up to you), that is labour and all genuine parts included.

      One more clarification. The engine has to be dropped because of the tight engine space in this model or because to be able to reach to the timing chain which will need to be touched for this process? So timing chains and such the given time is 150 to 200k

    • @Ali-of5be
      @Ali-of5be 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dealers say life time but thats a lie. If you change the timing chain every 200k then ur safe. These cars arent made to go over that normally. These high end premium cars normally go for 150k to 200k but replacing the chains and such can give your car a new like boost.

      Nothing Which is why I bought a 2.0 TdI A4 instead in the end.
      There's kind of a method in that madness.
      I thought the A5 looks sporty and Fast but with a 2.0 TDI it isn't !
      so with no 3.0 TDI under the bonnet there's no point having an A5 that looks fast then gets gapped by virtually anything that will do 0-60 in 7s or less.
      Eg the car I just sold and the other one I use to take stuff down the tip!
      Both would leave an A5 2.0 for dead
      The A5 will encourage people to try and race you.
      So getting gapped then carved up by white van man will become the norm.
      where as the A4 looks like Your father in Law might own it came fully loaded and leathered up and shouts "Grandad's not interested in racing"
      Does 50-55 mpg and has a cam belt in the front that cost aroung £400-500 to change every 5 years.
      I can still drive fast on my way to the tip lol!

      @davidstuart4915 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Lamster66 shall have to re-think this then.... - Whilst I agree the A4 doesnt look sporty, with 4wd, 3.0 and a map it would have done me nicely as a Dales brisk cruiser :) ...maybe a charged petrol V6 version? - the 2.0 isnt different enough from my Mondeo 2.0td to justify extra expense unfortunately..

      I wanted the 3.0 tdi because it would have been comparitive or slightly better performance wise than the various SAAB aeros, I've been driving for the past 20 odd years.
      When you consider that with a map the 2.0T is 260 bhp and the 2.3T is about 290hp. and 2.8T about the same. And you'd pay about half what an Audi of the same year would cost.
      When you're shelling out a sizeable chunk of wedge for a newer car you really want it to be a step up.
      In the end I compromised performance for build quality comfort and lower maintainance and running costs. The 2.0 TDI isn't quick.
      But its a pretty comfortable mile muncher.
      Would I buy a 3.0TDI.
      Yeah if I was buying newer and lower milage.
      The Audi petrols are well known for using oil and didn't fancy having to have a £60 can of oil to keep topping up between services.
      I could have that luxury from any car under £1000

      Possibly, but you can't control what happened to it prior to purchase. Very often company cars which will have been run to the max of the variable service intervals. Just a stupid idea to have chain at the back of the engine.
