Remember when you were a kid and everything seemed magical and nothing was uninteresting. You would wake up early in the morning and you were excited to be awake, to start the day and explore the world. Now think, you were pure, you didn't stay up playing video games, jerking off, restless sleep, procrastinating, feeling low, addicted to your phone, couch potato. You were energetic, creative and explorative. A dopamine detox for me brought me back to that state. I now love life and I'm excited for each new day and I've become a lot healthier, motivated and clear headed. Give a shot guys. Could end up saving your life.

@@ify105 yeah I basically did 24hours of doing nothing. I only allowed myself to drink water, and do light exercise like go for a walk. Can't say it was easy but the benefits are tenfold. To keep up this state of mind I've cut out sugary processed or refined foods, limited the amount of time I spend on social media and video games and cut out fapping completely haha. I've also started to practice mindfulness and cold therapy (look up wim hof method) and plan on taking a couple of detoxes per year to keep my body and mind in check. It's not an easy process but it really did change my life, feel a lot happier and feel like I've a purpose now.

    • @MyDomesticChiffchaff
      @MyDomesticChiffchaff 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Well depends, I'm young enough to have played video games all the day long when I was a kid, eating junk and staying super late, jerking off a lot in early teen years etc. And I was still very motivated every morning, always happy etc. That's because it's what kids and young teens are like - mostly healthy by default, not burdened by a lot of stuff (everything is paid for, not that much stress etc). Harder when you are an adult, health problems, worries about life, realizing you have X amount of years left etc. Easy to get all happy when you just in the early stages of your life cycle, but harder today. Of course you can mess with your brain and get back to that state, but it can be achieved without all the restrictions, CBT can do that for example.

It's not (just) caused by the iPhone. We have an abundance of choices nowaday, nobody really knows what to do anymore so we usually just default to whatever is the easiest to do. Your career choice, relationships and even your daily routine used to be pretty much laid out for you. It's also this uncertainty that causes us to hang on to anything certain, whether it's beneficial or not.

If you're going to do something go hard. Don't go one foot in and one foot out because you will fail that way. The harder you go, the easier it is to build momentum, and the more reward you get.

@@thelemoneater a lot of the most successful athletes (including marathon runners that have place high) say that it is a matter of pushing yourself, but more importantly, not setting absurd expectations and punishing yourself for not meeting them.
You do have to go all in on something, but it isnt about setting big numbers as goals. If you want to run a marathon, you dont practice by going out the first day and being like okay, im going to sprint 26.2 miles today, and if I dont, I suck. The correct mindset is to say, it doesnt matter how much you run that first day, youre just going to run, and rather than focusing on milestones, you just focus on your mentality. When you start getting tired, you train yourself to "just go a little bit more", and more, and more, never because you have to achieve a milestone or you suck, but because you want to test to see if you have it in you to do just a little bit more. You build discipline and the athleticism comes with it naturally. Your body should tell you when to stop, not the milestone goal you set for yourself. Youll either be suffocating and out of breath because youre out of shape, and thatll tell you to stop, or you'll run so much that your legs give out, which is unlikely, but youll either make steady progress or find out you're capable of much more than the marathon.
I think his name is David Goggins (might be wrong) but theres a guy who trained like that and ended up running over 100 miles in one go, and also broke the world record for consecutive pull ups with almost 5000 pull ups at once
Setting goals by milestones is a dopamine hit before you even start. When you push yourself just for the sake of pushing yourself and seeing your potential, you actually get better results

I'm ADHD.... doing something without excitement is hard....the hardest part of doing work related stuff/learning is 'Starting'.
Once you start you can continue it.... but then you feel you've done well and reward yourself with social media and then you waste your time and feel unfulfilled so chase for more dopamine and then you think i should get some work done but then you feel low and want something....want someone. It is a vicious cycle yes that goes in a negative direction and being ADHD i'm already low in dopamine so I want to do stuff that gets me that quick release and i struggle to focus. I need to do the boring stuff....just do it and push through and keep off the socials as long as i can and when i do go back hope i'm disclipned enough to leave it as i waste so much time right now

@x moses I started subtly a week and half ago. I downloaded an app called productive and it helps you create streaks for your habits and you have to check them off and I made sure to start small now I'm adding more habits everyday and it holds me accountable. I'm a very impulsive person.. it IS hard at first but it becomes easier to say no. The more you do it the stronger you build your discipline and willpower like Alex teaches. The key with all of this is to build discipline and willpower. It gets easier and easier and more fun and like he says you become happier and more focused and that's a much better cycle to be in.

Joining the club. Just found your channel and.. well.. I don't even know where to begin.
    But to keep it short.
Im sitting alone, living in a hotel on an isolated island. Fucked up every relationship in my life. Fucked up my career. Fucked up my physics...Trying desperately to run my own business, but keep failing. Tried to get help from my psychiatrist, who I can't even be honest with.
Trying to code a bit, leaning about AI and Unreal Engine.
Because as soon as things are going good. I start rewarding myself with dopamine triggers. Weed, booze, extreme porn, speed..Social media.. discussing politics that I don't really know anything about.
Bitching and whining about small things.
And then, Im ending up feeling empty and stop giving a shit about anything.
Don't know what I wanna say, but channels like yours means more than ever atm.

It's really important to identify the dopamine triggers and not indulge in them before is too late, if you start scrolling through social media in the morning it's way harder for you not to be hooked all day, same apply with fapping, if you fap one day, the craving on the following days will be higher, if you stop altogether, it will be easier to control the urges
