the short answer is yes, you can join if you SMOKED. Just lie to recruiter if you got no charges. You can't join if you SMOKE currently, you got to kick bad habits before you join. When you get in the military it does not matter what you did in the past, only matters what you do now and going forward.

172 Young A probation officer told me the tests they give detect everything you’ve done in the past 90 days. If you abstain for 89 days and take one toke, you’ll test positive for the next 90 days. Personally, I’d give it 180 days and lie my ass off. Unless you’ve been arrested for weed or your primary care MD did a drug screen as part of a physical (the military can look at your medical records) they would never know.

More common than you might think. Every time we would walk through a poppy field or a pot plant in Afghanistan my Lieutenant's cargo pockets would mysteriously fill right up. Every time I would go to the CP somebody was in a tent laid out. Still have the poppy scraping knife I snagged off someone coming on base sitting here on my nightstand.

I admitted to smoking twice and I didn't have to get a waiver. Currently, I'm hoping to get an intel contract. My advice, don't smoke at all.

I smoke weed basically everyday. When I enlist, I don’t care what balls it takes, I’ll ask that recruiter how much I need to have smoked in order to stop as many enemies of our American cause as possible.
At the end of the day there’s no weed without a free world to vote for it, and because I love it so much, I will throw weed away in order to let those living in the future have the freedom to smoke weed and drink with their friends no matter where any of them are from, and that they all will have the freedom to work and live an honest true life.
Thank you to those who have served and are serving because it’s you who protects the country that I live in and it is you who is the bastion of freedom. I hope soon to join you.

ok look if you choose to tell your recruiter even if it was years ago it's ALOT of shit to remember and papers to fill out. Before I went to my recruiter I was a major pot head but it was 2 years prior to me going in I chose to tell him and I had to make up a number of times I smoked what dates I smoked when I started and stopped and I had to remember all of that shit at MEPS so I highly advice keeping that info to your self it won't pop on a test you'll be fine. Thyey only know what you tell them. And P.S I had to remember 35 dates, yeah it sucked

I am totally in the dark about this. What does having smoked weed at ANY point in your life have to do with your military efficiency as a soldier? What, does it make you more individualistic or something? Because I know the military is kinda broke on that whole "For the Hive mind" or "As a team" kinda stuff
It's because it's an illegal drug and the military is a federal entity. So, drugs are bad, in their eyes.

When I went to go DEP, I told my recruiter that I had tried weed once. How he addressed it was basically "Is there any paperwork? If not, then it didn't happen." So there wasn't any real problem, I'm now enlisted and am shipping off to Parris Island Aug 14

I've spoken to 3 recruiters and told them that I have been suspended for weed before and they all told me to just be quiet and not stand up at the moment of truth cause it is rare that they would even check your high school record.
