Thanks for the video! I talked to my mom about it and she asked what branch. I told her the marines and shes like "Yeah you'd like that." My dad is trying to convince me not to join along with my cousin and aunt. All city people. :| forget them, I'm going to join anyway.
ClaytonFilpo Love your videos Clayton. I had a question or two. I decided about 8 months ago or so that I wanted to join the MC. I'm currently a junior in college and I had gotten an email from an OSO about joining as an officer and thought it was a good route. I got in contact with him and eventually told my dad. A couple months ago I finally told the rest of my family. But lately I've been thinking about it and wondering if I should enlist first. I'm pretty young (will only be 20 when I graduate college) and I feel like I have a lot of growing and maturing to do before I can be an officer, but I don't want to just take time off between school and joining. I also think I would enjoy enlisted life more so than officer responsibilities at this time. If I decided to enlist I'd still wait until I got my degree because then I'd have the opportunity to commission later on. But I know my family would be upset with me. My dad retired in '04 as an infantry MOS with 20 years of service and even he said he'd be upset if I enlisted versus commissioning, but I feel like it's the right path for me. Any thoughts on enlisting first even with a degree under my belt, or how to tell my family about it without them hating me for it? Thank you for everything, you're awesome, and I love your videos!
I remember the first time I told my parents I wanted to join. My mom was worried but didn't stop me. My father however was very opposed to it and went as far as to say he would dis-own me if I did join. I was 16 at the time. I didn't give 2 shits about what my father thought because the second I graduate high school, I was going to be on my own. My dad wasnt certainly gonna pay my home bills for me, so why give a fuck about what job I did. Long story short, I went to MEPS as a 35G in the United States Army with an ASVAB score of 86. With geospatial Intelligence, I can make loads of money as a federal employee once I leave the army. I'm still in high school now, with graduation just 2 months away. July 24th, I leave for basic at Fort Jackson. Being 18 now, a future soldier and all, my father and I are still on uneasy terms for the most part. But who gives a fuck? Live your life, do what the fuck you wanna do, because at the end of the day, if you ain't going to fucking college, you best believe your parents aren't gonna pay your house bills for you, so why give a shit if they are opposed to you joining the military and actually benefitting yourself, as well as serving the greatest country in the world?
I grew up in it in San Diego Co. I had it rammed down my throat. I did my service in the Army during Vietnam. They told me "It makes a man out of you." I did not feel any more a man the day I got out as when the day I went in. It was a time "Veterans need not apply. I am glad respect is coming back to the military and veterans. Hi all, I am a mom whose son (17) at present is headed for boot camp end of June 2017. My advice is to give parents info regarding your interest, throw in the pros and cons and slowly they will be open to you, you will have to bite the lip and hear a speech and know we will be sad knowing you'll be gone soon. Deep in our hearts we know you are in control of your life and are showing responsibility. Have your parents do their own research as I have. I am proud of my son's decision and am proud to say soon i will be a "MarineMom".
lol exactly how my mom sees it she says as soon as your joining your going to deploy and i just keep telling her the chances are very slim right now tbh and it probably wont happen unless something big happens but she just denies it all im still joining cause my dad supports me 100%
When I told my parents that I wanted to join the military (back when I was 17), my dad threatened to "drive me down to the Secretary of State and cut you out of the family forever!" (those were his exact words). And now, 4 years later, he actually encouraged me to enlist, and now I'm in the Air Force. It's funny how parents can do complete 180's
Right though. For real, so many parents start out saying "NO, YOU CAN'T EVER JOIN" and then six months later you'd swear the only shirt they own are ones that say "My son is a Marine"
I told my mom that I'm enlisting into the Marine Corps & she was so pissed and didn't talk to me for 2 days lol she's still mad at me and yelled at me this morning for it.
Well, I seem to be on a different boat than everyone in the comments session. Coming from a line of military cousins, my parents support my decision 100%. Maybe it is to finally have something to brag about, or maybe they want me out the house 😂 I simply sat down with them and explained that I wanted to join the Marine Corps after I graduate high school. But looking to transfer to a Military School)
2K YBN whoa. XD I'm a junior now and I told my family and they were a-okay. sort of. but like you said, all those yeasts of playing army men and call of duty aren't for nothing. haha! I used to obsess over the Army, till I found out about Marines XD lol. I'm going hopefully out of high school for Parris Island. where ever you'll be I hope you make it bro!
Kelton Harris Likewise, haha. I'm about to be a Junior now, old enough to enlist in my local gym, which I did. I'm there at least 3-4 times a day now that I'm on summer break. Wish you the best as well, oorah! Haha
Im 16 now and want to join the Royal Marines. I was quite nervous when I first told my parents at the age of 15, but what I would say to anyone else who is nervous about it is just go for it their family so their is no reason to worry about them judging you or not taking you seriously. I was lucky in that my parents are supportive of the idea if not happy about it. Also if u plan on going to university first make sure u bring it up because its quite possible the military could provide u with bursaries or other financial support.
Yeah, when I told my parents I wanted to join up they flipped (was 15 at the time)😅 thought I was gonna die or that I was just going to hate it but now I'm turning 17 and they've come to terms with it and might just let me join the royal marine soon
Henry Bleasdale I'm currently 15, I'll be 16 soon. I've recently talked to my parents saying that I want to become a Royal Marine. They my dad being the stone cold ass he is at times automatically says no. My mum also says no. "You will die" she said. It's not stopping me from joining. Of course it will have to be when I'm 18.
+Tim Gurkins I'm sorry ur parent aren't supportive but tbh who can blame them. U could try pointing out that u would be one of the most elite soldiers in the world surrounded by some of the most elite soldiers in the world. I did some maths and in 2011 less than 0.5% of British soldiers in Afghanistan died (and some of those deaths where not combat related). U could also point out about (I think) 60% of pple don't make it through RM training so it's quite possible u won't make it. I told my parents that and also that it's possible i will Change my mind before joining, but I don't think I will. Anyway best of luck. Cheers.
My mom is super supportive of my discussion, but sometimes she cries for my safety. I tell her all the time that I'll be ok. Hopefully, I'll be a Military Police Officer (I understand lots of people in the military don't like MPs)
Loved the video! My dad and I are still trying to formulate a plan to talk to my mom about joining the Marines (last time I tried to on my own she gave me an hour long lecture about how I could die in boot camp or come back mentally scarred) and this video is helping a lot with this!
What i did was tell them i was going reserves and when I turned 18 switched to active. They weren't mad at all about it bc they were already into the idea and saw that it isn't that bad
my mother told me that if i ever decide to go to the U.S, become a citizen, and join the marine corps, i shouldn't bother coming back. I'm gonna use some of this advice and try to see if i can at least get a discussion going with her. Thanks Clayton!
My husband wanted to join the Marines out of high school and his mom told him no and wouldn't go to talk to a recruiter with him. The recruiter showed up at his house to talk to her and she literally told him to fuck off and slammed to door in his face. He ended up joining the Navy after turning 18 for job that had a nice sign on bonus, but hated the job once he got into it. He regrets not sticking to his guns and joining the Marines.
The hardest part for me is literally just bringing it up to my mom. I'm trying to talk to her today about it but I just have no clue how i'm gonna bring it up
I want to join the army when I graduate college. My parents are going to disown me 😂 Thanks for this video. I think it will help with explaining it to them.
I'm irish and there is nothing more I want to do than be a marine security guard or dog handler do you think I would be able to do it without having to get a us citizenship???
Ben McInerney you can join, but you need a green card. Once you join and finish boot camp you can apply for us citizen which takes less than a year. After you become a citizen you can later transfer career to become a k9 handler.
My father completely supports me wanting to join the Airforce, but my mother does not. I am a 19 years of age and about to finish my first year in college. I wanted to join the military during my senior year of high school, but my mother said no. I respected her wishes and chose to stay. I see the military as good career choice for me. I got an asvab score of 88 and would like to work in the intelligence field for the Airforce. Now that I live independently and can make my own adult choices, I'm thinking of enlisting. I want to so bad, but I don't want to break my mother's heart. She can't stand the thought of her daughter leaving. When I told her she said that she cannot stop me, but will never support me. I don't know what to do.
So glad I won't have this problem. My mother's ex military and my father's a marine, currently a naval doctor. I don't just want to I feel like I need to.
I told my parents that I wanted to served, they said yeah and really motivated me with what they were saying. Up until the point where they said no to me. Which frickin hurts because after all this time, they’d made me thought that I was gonna make it, they took it back...
I am thinking about enlisting in the marines this summer after high school and your channel has really helped me gain a better understanding the marine corps and has answered a lot of questions i had about it in great detail thank you for the videos you have made and thank you for your service.
As an only child, my mother was especially apprehensive towards my decision to join the military (I had gradually reduced by options from all 5 branches down to the Marine Corps and the Navy) but I believe she's coming around. Reassuring her that I wanted to do public affairs and had 0 interest in infantry didn't hurt either.
i want to join the Australian army, i told my parents last year and they are both very supportive probably because they were both in the army, my dad is even helping me train for it, my mum was hesitant at first but now shes supportive of it
I have a lot of family in the military. My grandfather was a WWII veteran in the army, receiving Purple Heart and bronze star. His father got drafted into WWI. My uncle was in the army, my parents are supportive because my mom grew up in the Lebanese civil war, and knows that not everyone dies.
I've told my entire family I'm joining the Air Force, and I've been adamant about it since I was 8. They all have just come to accept it because they know I won't listen if they say I shouldn't.
Both of my parents are actually completely fine with me joining the Army. My mom even took me to the recruiter. My grandparents though, they are a little more nervous but still okay with it.
There’s nothing, absolutely nothing you can say that will convince your parents to support you joining the military. All you can do is keep telling them you’re going to do it then do it. As a middle eastern GIRL, I struggled but once you’re 18, you’re 18. Parents always get over stuff no matter what because you’re their child
I needed to see this. I’m 23 and wanna join but I’m kinda torn between the marines and the Air Force. When I told my mom I was interested in the marines, she said I’ll be killed. I’ve told my parents so many times the marine corps isn’t always about combat.
Shouldn't be to difficult to tell my parents, I keep getting pestered(at 14) asking which branch I'm gonna join and my grandpa wants navy my dad navy and my other grandpa army , and my great uncles all want navy, so when I say marines gonna be quite the "coming out" story lol
My older brother is already in. My mom has had a few freak outs because of that, but having one kid at home has been a comfort to her. My brother enlisted after finding out college wasn’t a fit for him, and my parents are happy he found a career path. I was always supposed to be the scholar child, but I'm over college. I will have my brother on the phone when I tell my parents I'm enlisting. I have a large suspicion I will get different treatment. Definitely will need my brother to have my back.
Well, I'm have been quite lucky with having a former military as a father and my mom is within the civil defense! So they are quite open for me having a military career!
this video just really helped me alot because i can relate entirely to your situation. like to day my mom maid me apply for schools and i did it anyway becasue i just dont know how to tell her i wanna join the marines and ive already talked to my recruiter and everything but im just having a hard to breaking it to her becasue i know shes gonna be upset and is gonna try and talk me out like most parents and this video just kinda really helped out alot.
Thank you so much! This is something that I have been struggling with this for quite a while! It's not that my parents are not supportive it's that I am a Christian and my parents don't think it's the most healthy place for me as a Christian to go! If anybody else has had the same thing happen I would love some more advise!
Clay, i know you've talked about it in the past; but can you make a relationship version of this ? I always tell people that regardless of what you S/O says your C/O is never going to wake up and tell you you're out of the service/they don't love you anymore.
Great video Clayton, but I feel as if there's one thing you missed that I myself am having an issue with. I'll be going infantry. My Mom isn't so worried about me getting killed, but she's very worried about me getting injured or mentally destroyed. Do you have any pointers on how to help her past it?
Of course, infantry has a higher risk of being in harm's way because - well - that's their job. However, it's important to explain that she seems to be operating on stereotypes and fear. Have her speak to a recruiter, that's the best option. Also, do your homework and find studies and research. Good luck my dude
When I told my mom that I wanted to be Marine Recon I had just come home from college and she accused me of being suicidal and then said I was a psychopath. She was in CAP for over 30 years and my dad was a mechanic in the Marines for 3 or 4 years and they both want me to be an officer in the Air Force. Everyone is either discouraging me from going in altogether or telling me I should finish college and become an officer in the Air Force.
So Junior year (when I'm 17) I really wanna join the Marine Corps, but my parents always furiously tell me that'll never happen and to never bring it up again. They still don't want me to join when I'm 18 but that's my decision by then so I don't have to worry about it as much. They would much rather me just finish school and go to college to be a mechanic like all my cousins. Any ideas on how to persuade them? Or should I just wait till I'm 18?
My dad is ok with it my mom really isn't my grandma had a emotional breakdown. So now I just tell my recruiters wait till I'm 18 and I'm joining as soon as possible
Its even worse if both your parents actually served, because they want better for you and going the same path they went is not better, its just really hard talking to them about it
I'm enlisting at 17 so ill need my moms signature. She wants me to join and fully supports it but she dosent want me to do infantry and that's what I kinda want to do
Hey Clayton, I'm a 16 year old who wants to join the Marines, but I'm also looking into the NROTC. Because I want to join the MEOP, but I want to see if I could possibly do something like, "Go to college first for four years in the NROTC, then sign up." I'm thinking of doing that so I can get more music experience, so as to be able to get into MEOP, plus I want to be a concert pianist later in life after having been in the USMC. Does that sound like a good idea? Could you possibly make a video talking more about the NROTC? Or if not that, maybe at least the USMC MEOP?
Hay man thanks alot, i have a recruiter im 17 and homeschooled im getting my ged and they dont like geds so me and my recruiter have a plan to put me into the delayed entry program wich will allow me to get into marines much much easier with a ged and my mom shuts me down every time i even attempt to talk to her about it but this video gives me some good ideas to try theres nothing i want more than to be a marine
Hey man I really appreciate your videos, I’m 25 and strongly considering joining the marines and I watch a ton of military videos and I find yours the most helpful and relaxing cause I’m very motivated but also very nervous at the same time
I asked them and they did not say no but they said that we are in small country and it is not worth spending my life for such a samll country and such a small army but when I go to Germany I am thinking of joining the german military. Maybe they will support me in that case I truly do not know how they'll react.
fucking hell dude. I've been talking to a marine recruiter for the past two weeks. I'm going in to take the asvab (I forgot what it's called now) on Saturday and I still haven't told my parents. I don't know why but for some reason I just can't get myself to do it
Hi Clayton I have been looking into the army and I just wanted to say u have helped me out on what I need to prepare for but is there any way I could reach u so that I can ask u more questions
Hey Clayton I'm a Canadian and joining the Canadian Armed Forces. I've heard Canadians can join the marines, does it go through some transfer process or does the individual have to first become an American citizen then they could join the marines. Again I've only heard of it just a question.
I'm 18 and currently toward the end of my senior year. I've been looking more towards the Marines and my mom doesn't want me to join them. She wants me to join the Navy or Air Force... I'm thinking about signing my contract and getting a leave date and then telling her..... I'm at a standstill. I don't want to make her upset..
I was talking to a friend about how many benefits my father got from the marine corps, and she said: "He's one of the lucky ones." I asked why and her response was "He was one of the few who didn't die." Misconceptions there are indeed.

CAN I JOIN MILITARY WITH FLAT FOOT !?!?!??!!??! PLS REPLY!!!!!

good vid papa clay
Oh shit hi man.
funny part is that this was released on my birthday when I'm trying to talk to my parents about the marines. XD
Happy Birthday
ClaytonFilpo Thanks, man!
How ironic

Why is there a picture of me as the thumbnail? Lol
Matt Kirk oh shit
lol Patterson shot it, just using it as a thumb because it's a great photo dude
I know right? He's a very talented photographer. I only asked because a friend shared this video with me.
haha that's crazy! Well, you're famous!
Matt Kirk Hahaha is the most random shit ever.
my dad is cool but my mom says ill go straight to Iraq, Afghanistan, i told her its not how it works exactly

Zyko Trickshots my dad said something similar. ill get blown up by an IED or something because i signed on as 11b. i said "at least I'm not EOD!"
Same here hombre
We're not even over there anymore.

Thanks dude

Nothin wrong with MPs at all, they're just doing their job. Glad your mom is supportive of you. Sounds like a sweet lady
told my parents i wanted to enlist as an infantryman and they lost their shit.
TTShady141 my mom too bro
Loved the video! My dad and I are still trying to formulate a plan to talk to my mom about joining the Marines (last time I tried to on my own she gave me an hour long lecture about how I could die in boot camp or come back mentally scarred) and this video is helping a lot with this!
DO AN OFFICER VS ENLISTED VIDEO
My dad was a marine for 25 years and was a 7th generation marine, so thankfully i don't need to try to convince him lol.
My parents will kick me out of the house when I tell them that i decided to join...
Vanessa Almanza I hope more parents are more accepting, that's terrible, why wouldn't they want you??
Thank you so much clayton , i was going to talk to them today about joining the british army and you did this, thank you bro.
my dad was in the Marine Corps, I'm sure he understands I want to join it, I want to follow his steps and join marine Corp also
Gaming Tips I just asked my dad today but he wasn’t so supportive about me joining the army I wanted to follow his footsteps and be an MP
What i did was tell them i was going reserves and when I turned 18 switched to active. They weren't mad at all about it bc they were already into the idea and saw that it isn't that bad
my family is 100% against me joining lol but fuck it im still joining
my dad was in the army for 6 years and my parents would be hecka proud if i joined wich is what i wanna do
my mother told me that if i ever decide to go to the U.S, become a citizen, and join the marine corps, i shouldn't bother coming back.
I'm trying to talk to her today about it but I just have no clue how i'm gonna bring it up
ThaCarti did you finally bring it up?
I am having the same exact problem!
with my dad i would probably have to talk to him about NOT joining the military lol
I want to join the army when I graduate college. My parents are going to disown me 😂 Thanks for this video. I think it will help with explaining it to them.
I'm irish and there is nothing more I want to do than be a marine security guard or dog handler do you think I would be able to do it without having to get a us citizenship???
Gotta be a citizen or have a green card, my friend.
ClaytonFilpo shit
I don't use fed ex
My family is very supportive of my choice to join the military. I must be one of the lucky ones.
Perfect timing! my mom doesn't want me going at all
i want to join the Australian army, i told my parents last year and they are both very supportive probably because they were both in the army, my dad is even helping me train for it, my mum was hesitant at first but now shes supportive of it
Adley Johnson hey mate im from wagga, im hopefully looking to go for my YOU session next year, wat core are u thinking of going to
nice man, im thinking rifleman
all i can really say is do what you want to do not whar everyone else wants u to do
Adley Johnson cheers mate u too
Sammo811 1 do you follow a Instagram page called cadets_for_life
I have a lot of family in the military.
This really helped give me some reassurance before I talk to my parents. Thanks for making these videos!
Glad the vids helped!
Great looking video. I ship out for Army Infantry next month on the 15th!
How to talk to parents about joining the military:
Me: Hey I'm going
Parents: cya bye
I’ve told my parents so many times the marine corps isn’t always about combat.
thanks for this video Clayton I'm still worried about telling my family that I want to join the military
I just spoke to my mom last night about the marines...
My dad won't even really talk to me about this and I want to go infantry that makes it even harder -_-
I needed this video
Well, I'm have been quite lucky with having a former military as a father and my mom is within the civil defense! So they are quite open for me having a military career!
My dad is okay
My mom isn't
:/
You realize that your profile picture is the Russian sniper Vasily Zaytsev right?
I'm fully aware. What does that have to do with anything?
no, it just your name and then your picture i don't mean anything
It's cool I was just confused.
Are you Ok with it though? Because that's all that matters. Once you get in they will most likely get behind you.
this video just really helped me alot because i can relate entirely to your situation. like to day my mom maid me apply for schools and i did it anyway becasue i just dont know how to tell her i wanna join the marines and ive already talked to my recruiter and everything but im just having a hard to breaking it to her becasue i know shes gonna be upset and is gonna try and talk me out like most parents and this video just kinda really helped out alot.
THANK YOU SO MUCH IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VID FOR A WHILE
Thank you so much! This is something that I have been struggling with this for quite a while! It's not that my parents are not supportive it's that I am a Christian and my parents don't think it's the most healthy place for me as a Christian to go! If anybody else has had the same thing happen I would love some more advise!
Glad the video helped!! Be sure to stop by our nightly live streams on the channel! We'll be live tonight at 9 pm est!
Brooke Penner thanks for the advice! I hope that helps when I'm able to tell my parents!
This is so helpful. My mom decided if i join, she would yell at me if i come back home.
Subscribing just because you are a Veteran. Thank you for serving our country.
thanks man, appreciate it
No problemo.
you can't get drafted if you enlist
Lol very first DI was my SDI Lima Co 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I'm glad my mom has no problem with me enlisting she actually has no problem with it even tho I'm planning to be an 0311 infantrymen
My parents were very supportive of my decision to join the Air Force.
My dad and his new wife are very supportive of me wanting to join the military, but my mom always freaks out if I talk about the military
Love all your videos man !
Clayton can you join the marines as a corpsman or do you need to the navy?
Loved the video!!!! I know that this wasn't suppose to be posted yet, but thanks for finally posting :D
Or should I just wait till I'm 18?
my mom has known for a while that I wanna join but just today she was like don't u wanna go to college and pick a job where ur not gonna die?
I just used this video
My dad is ok with it my mom really isn't my grandma had a emotional breakdown. So now I just tell my recruiters wait till I'm 18 and I'm joining as soon as possible
Thank you so much for your tips they are so helpful
I want to go to Polish cadet’s high school, then i’d love to join some military university like WAT, but convincing my mother will be really painful.
My mom said she would disown me 😂
edit:still gonna join after high school tho
Or if not that, maybe at least the USMC MEOP?
my parents are fine with me joining the Marines. My dad's uncle died in WW2 as a b-17 pilot.
Great vid, yo
I had made the decision to join the Marine Corps and my mos is aviation mechanic and I was family except my decision.
thanks I needed this the most of all thanks again
i always wanted to be in the army
Hey Clayton I'm a Canadian and joining the Canadian Armed Forces.
I've heard Canadians can join the marines, does it go through some transfer process or does the individual have to first become an American citizen then they could join the marines.
Again I've only heard of it just a question.
What parent would say no, or try to talk their children out of joining, and why? It's their life, their decision.
What did you go into after basic? Im curious, ik uve probably already said this but im lazy.'love the videos man
I'm 18 and currently toward the end of my senior year. I've been looking more towards the Marines and my mom doesn't want me to join them. She wants me to join the Navy or Air Force... I'm thinking about signing my contract and getting a leave date and then telling her..... I'm at a standstill. I don't want to make her upset..
Sonya Guzman she will be upset if you go down that route , buy like wise will still be proud of you in the end for making your own decisions.
I was talking to a friend about how many benefits my father got from the marine corps, and she said: "He's one of the lucky ones." I asked why and her response was "He was one of the few who didn't die." Misconceptions there are indeed.
Since im a pastors son and I want to be a 56m my dad will understand byt my problem is my mom
