Then I remind her the time I got shot in the head by some kid's homemade bow & arrow and they decided to not take me to the hospital, despite a doctor there saying that wound would require at least 5 stitches. (end up not going to the hospital, but since I recovered it's all good) Edit: I almost forgot, the guy (also Asian) who shot me ended up becoming a doctor. Like this story just ended up having everything.
The fact that she thought it was credible enough to call out as exaggeration should be food for thought for people who think that this bit is "obvious" satire.

Ronnu Chieng might be my new favorite comedian. I only just found out about him through Scissor Seven, but he has such a unique line delivery I love it
As a Chinese Malaysian, we give/receive money when attending wedding, birthday, funeral, house warming, business opening, Chinese New Year, even after death (someone will burn the money for us) By the way, other than Gong Xi Fa Cai, we have dozens of greetings to say during Chinese New Year, which are all related to money 🤣
LOL jokes aside Money is everything as well as nothing. The deeper meaning to this culture of money is the experience of hardship, poverty and just to fill the stomach. While i also experience the same thing i got to experience first hand if you don't have money our family literally were only eating vegetables and salty fish for meals. Its more of a community getting together to gather enough money so that their son's can get married as well as a small sum of seed money to feed the family. Later on as the economy gets better and upward social mobility becomes much easier the Younger generation no longer experience Poverty and started to question as to why Money is so important. As for moving up the social ladder and becoming a Doctor well what is wrong with moving up the social ladder? But for those who grew up in poverty its the quickest way and ticket to provide a better life and future. But as we our Wages and quality of life goes higher younger generation not faced with the same living experience and condition wouldn't understand. They think when they are born life is so comfortable. But again Money isn't everything. However without it you cannot even donate to charity even if you want to. Look at the current condition today with the Pandemic out of control. My heart aches when i see many desperate people selling food on the streets trying to get by just to ensure their kids get fed. Its about how you choose to spend Money when you have it and its about survival when you don't.
My doctor came here from China, and has 2 sons. One of them went to medical school, the other business school. You can guess which one is his favorite.
i am a Malaysian Chinese and Ronny nailed it. We love money. Very true for some families. People want their children to get into a profession to take other people's money as much as possible, along with having prestige and power. It's not about finding a calling or what the child would enjoy doing in life. It's about the responsibility of earning and taking care of the family. Money, prestige and power are considered the main factors required to secure stability and prosperity for the family.

2 reasons of why Asian parents want their children to become doctors: to get money and to get their children to be doctors for them for free in the future
Not Asian but when I was studying premed my parents were setting me up to do the same thing. It starts with jokes about it but then they're calling you in the office about a flu.

The Chinese obsession with wealth is ingrained into the culture. In my time, which is a long time ago, we learned how to gamble before even stepping foot in school. The elders are not bothered by it because it's good to use your brains and sometimes it takes 4 punters. People asked why math is our thing, this is one of the reasons.
I am Bangladeshi and I can confirm that he is 100% correct. My dad hates doctors with his life, though my parents wished I would be a doctor. My mom still regrets because I never tried to go to medical college.

Showed this to my mother, she thought it was funny, though mentioned that the part about being shot with an arrow was exaggeration.
Then I remind her the time I got shot in the head by some kid's homemade bow & arrow and they decided to not take me to the hospital, despite a doctor there saying that wound would require at least 5 stitches. (end up not going to the hospital, but since I recovered it's all good)
Edit: I almost forgot, the guy (also Asian) who shot me ended up becoming a doctor. Like this story just ended up having everything.
It just means she thinks of her own body differently. No contradiction there.
She just wanted you to be stronger...maybe in the future you can stop real arrows. :)
The fact that she thought it was credible enough to call out as exaggeration should be food for thought for people who think that this bit is "obvious" satire.
😂😂😂😂
I didn’t laugh or chuckle because what Ronnie just said was just straight facts. I did crack a slight grin, because a lot of people don't understand what American/English sarcasm is.
恭喜发财Hope you get rich everyone.
uhm ... that will cause inflation.
But isn’t that what makes us laugh? 😂
That's what supposed to make it funny, the fact that it's true
Faizal Yacob inflation is a good thing, too much money, just make sure you are selling stuff at that time. And you are buying during recession.
I guess that's just facts for the very southern part of China and southeast Asia. At least from Beijing all the way to Shanghai, I heard much more 'Happy New Year' than 'Hope you get rich'. But the fact doesn't matter that much here, he is funny!

Ronnu Chieng might be my new favorite comedian. I only just found out about him through Scissor Seven, but he has such a unique line delivery I love it
As a Chinese Malaysian, we give/receive money when attending wedding, birthday, funeral, house warming, business opening, Chinese New Year, even after death (someone will burn the money for us)
By the way, other than Gong Xi Fa Cai, we have dozens of greetings to say during Chinese New Year, which are all related to money 🤣
😂😂😂
🤣🤣 they have trillion dollar fake bills to burn
Yes, I can't believe he missed that opportunity of fitting in the burning of money as well.
You have same rituals as Indians 😂
