For several years I worked in a music store owned by an older Asian woman. She was BRUTAL with her bluntness and honesty with the staff…and I loved it. It was hilarious. She never meant any of it to be cruel, she just thought it was the best way to communicate and she knew what and how she wanted things done. Our turn over rate with employees was so high though because they were mostly young white music nerds who didn’t know how to take it.
During cold/flu season right before the holidays she would buy everyone a giant Costco pack of vitamin C drink mix and demand we drink it every day so we didn’t get sick during the busy season. She would personally ask us all every day if we had drunk it. If we said no she would make us one right there and watch us drink it. To her credit, I didn’t get sick. 😂

@@omgjohn3217 Just because what you believe in can't be proven false doesn't mean that it is legitimate. There is neither evidence against or for the existence of God, which is easily explainable. For example, I could make the arguement that there is higher power that created humanity which happens to be an invisible spaghetti monster. How would you go about proving that this arguement is false. Just as hard it is to prove it wrong, it is just as hard to prove it right. However, how would you feel about seeing millions of people praying to the Great Spaghetti Monster, sacrificing animals and people as well as dedicating their entire lives to the cause. Is it really worth using this much time and effort for something that you can't even prove to be real?
Let me tell you the truth, you likely won't like it. Religions, including Christianity, were invented in the first place to provide answers to early humans about what everything is since science was so underdeveloped and unpopular back then. The reason why these things were made up is because of the overwhelming feeling of anxiety and fright that the concept of death created. This is the main driver of religions, and it is what these religions revolve around.

Many years ago our neighbors across the street brought their elderly parents from China to visit. They were very quiet and walked together daily. They wore simple dark colored clothing, much like a uniform. If I saw them I would wave and say hello. They politely nodded. One day I started work on a garden project to create a circle of plantings around our front tree. I was swinging my pick and making headway when I noticed the elderly gentleman watching me through his front window, then his front porch, then he was walking towards me. He nodded and took the pick out of my hands and proceeded to swing away! Try as I may, he would not give me back my tool! He was happy and smiling and having a great time. I just watched. He dug out my entire circular bed, through massive tree roots, in record time. The look of exhilaration on his face as he handed me back the pick was priceless! Before going back across the street he taught me to say hello. After that, we both waved and always exchanged hearty ni hao’s!

This is triggering my PTSD. I grew up with this kind of criticism and tbh it’s very hard to hear as a 11 years old girl. Ofc it’s funny to hear when someone shares it but reminding yourself that this happened to you is sad. For instance, he says that old Asian women tells you what’s wrong with your face. Well this happened several times.
    1) when I was little, my mom’s friends told me that I was dirty and that she had to burn my skin of because I had freckles (it’s bad to have freckles in Asia)
    2) another time, I was at the dentist a random woman came up to me that I was filthy because of my freckles
    3) I went to buy ice cream. The ice cream woman complimented me and tells me, face on, « you could be even prettier and compete for an award if you get rid of your freckles ».
Like WTF I DON’T KNOW YOU 😂 BUT OK 😂😂😂 THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK
    4) lastly, I eat with my parents. I was starving because I was on my period. I serve myself a second time. My mom gave me a side eye and tells me « haven’t you eaten enough? ». Then tells her friends in front of my face « see how big her stomach is? ».
Good luck telling your Asian parents that these kind of actions and words are very disruptive and worsen your mental health 😂 heck I’m seeing a psychologist who tells me that my mom is toxic AF. When I told my dad about it and when I tried to make my mom understand that she needs to be less blunt, I get shout at saying that I need to change doctors, that I should go on Xanax and stop looking at my problems only…
Yes this is their way of showing love and showing that they care for us. But it’s toxic af and we can’t keep on making excuses for them and keep on taking the hits. I admire those who can stand this and not be affected by Asian parents words and actions because I can’t. I have panick attacks every time I have to come back to Asia to see them.

My dad immediately says why doesn’t he just come out the window? We all can see he’s gay. I tried to explain that it’s coming out of the closet. He just said the same thing. It was hilarious!!! My mom didn't tell me what was wrong with my face. She just kept telling me to "fix your face." But she did tell me what wrong with everything else. I once asked her why she was so critical. She said, "because I love you." So then I said, "why can't you just lie to me?" And she said, "I cannot tell a lie." I have low self esteem because my mom loves me and has strong a moral compass. I can't find fault in that.
