Planet Nah man, once that vacuum tube is punctured any trains that are in the tube would basically explode out of the tube because of the massive pressure change. Remember, this is going from no atmospheric pressure, to all of the atmospheric pressure in an instant.
There are no tests regarding decompression of the tube, but it might not be as drastic as you think. It's unlikely that a small whole will collapse the tube. On the other side, common railways aren't that safe either. It's very easy to derail a trail, all you need to tools from the hardware shop that anyone can buy.
Air resistance is hugely important, especially at high speeds. There is a reason why cars have a top speed of about 270-300 mph, and it has everything to do with air resistance and terminal velocity. At high speeds, the resistive force of the air is the main limiting factor to reaching higher speeds. It turns out that there isn't a linear relationship between engine power and speed, when you factor in air resistance. The force of the air resistance is proportional to the velocity squared, multiplied by a constant. The difference of a vacuum is the difference between 700 mph and 300 mph, at least anecdotally, which is quite a difference in kinetic energy (the difference between kinetic energies is the work - so that is a lot of energy being transferred into the cabin). The "main reason" for the vacuum, is not to just stop drag caused by air resistance, but to stop considerable drag caused by air resistance.
Likely they'll use it for transporting cargo at first. Before it's demonstrated it's ability to function safely, people will hesitate to use the system.

Getting something delivered quick in that thing is more likely than taking years to create stations and payment systems for people to ride it, and i just dont think many people will be able to afford or even want to ride it.
Oskar And You know how to completely ruin this kind of train? Make a small puncture anywhere in the tube. Air will immediately begin filling the tube and the friction will drive it to a screeching halt. The only way to repair it would be to completely stop train movements and to carefully go over every inch of the tubing to find the hole, which would be expensive and time consuming
Even if there were no technical and safety related issues, a hyperloop would still have way to little capacity, since 30 people in one pod are just very few, even if pods can be launched every 30 seconds, the capacity would still be much smaller than that of a high speed train line.

+Body Pillow It is, but this isn't going anywhere, the price of labor and materials is tremendous, problems and hazards still stand unsolved (and ye they could theoretically be solved). Whole thing isn't commercially viable. I'd love it if there was a better way of transport since our dependence on fossil fuel to function at all is taking it's share of the environmental toll and even worse the supply is finite. Once we run out of it with no alternative (which we don't fully have) then it'll be a complete collapse. And Hyperloop is not gonna make it until that time. Besides I'm not influencing the project in any way, I'm just criticizing it under a random video. So if you think I'm holding back human potential then I'm oooooh so terribly sorry.
It currently takes 6 hours to drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Hyperloop can cut it down to 50 minutes. Huge time saver. That's one of the core problems of American public transportation.

simply put: overlooked issues and the fact that they didnt use a vacuum. overlooked issues being thermal expansion, the energy cost of maintaining such a vacuum and the risk of explosive decompression. which can be caused by just having something like a bird hit the side of the tube. which would instantly kill anyone currently inside that tube. granted most of these are easily fixable. just have joints at every X meters that have opening and closing sealed doors so only people in a particular section of the hyperloop tunnel die a horrible instant death, having those sections would also solve thermal expansion when done correctly.

No the thing is that this concept was though of and never realized for a reason. Hyperloop is a waste of resources, you'll see for yourself.
Matej / Psilop I hate people like you who hold back human potential. Keep your ignorant knowledge out and let the smart people do their job in advancing technology.
+Body Pillow All I'm saying there are many better ways to invest money, I'm just not delusional.
Matej / Psilop Yes, advancing travel is not a useful investment...
You know. A ride. Because there was at least one rider. Great report.
If this works then we don’t need cars anymore. I think that just wishful thinking. I hope this is a positive step towards public transportation.
Do anyone know the music in this video? maybe the genre? please
Rifqi R that joke is so old, man :D
Giosuè Käpernick You'd be surprised how many people are grateful then angry at me. Even in 2017.😂
Acid house kind of
The genre is house or minimal.
Diplo- elevator shits
imagine being stuck in that same tunnel with the track behind u..
Hyperpoop !
OwnedByPutin hahaha
OwnedByPutin 🇷🇺💩😄😄
Doesn’t Elon Musk’s Boring Company already do this with Tesla’s?
Utopian Realm he owns hyperloop
Bringing space to earth
Bravo! 👏
Right...
The first route will be in India🤔
but who is gonna pay for that? and who hates india so much?
India can't pay for it
Yes. Sure. But how will we stop rapes in the hyperloop?
just make a maglev, its easier and cheaper, and come on, do you really need to get somewhere 1 hour earlier.
It currently takes 6 hours to drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Hyperloop can cut it down to 50 minutes. Huge time saver. Maglevs are cool, but Americans don't like the idea of sticking to a certain route and schedule. They love their cars because its pure "freedom"; they get to go where they want when they want. That's one of the core problems of American public transportation.
Also, it would be great for long commutes. You could live in San Fransisco and work in L.A.
Lewis Terroir Creating unnecessary traffic is one of the problems that led to climate change. Live where you work, and make that place a good place is the better concept.
It's harder to live where you work because of zoning and stupid ass central office jobs.
juki0h tuki I guess I should ask you "do you really want a car instead of a horse"?
It would, on the other hand, be kind of nice if this had been an actual test of an actual vehicle.
I love the audacity and entrepreneurship that's in some people's mind.
But I also understand that many people who are just more than willing to deny anything beyond their imagination or status quo.
I am just curious why there are overwhelming number of denial in comments, but there are equally overwhelming more likes than dislikes.
simply put: overlooked issues and the fact that they didnt use a vacuum.
overlooked issues being thermal expansion, the energy cost of maintaining such a vacuum and the risk of explosive decompression. which can be caused by just having something like a bird hit the side of the tube. which would instantly kill anyone currently inside that tube.
granted most of these are easily fixable. just have joints at every X meters that have opening and closing sealed doors so only people in a particular section of the hyperloop tunnel die a horrible instant death, having those sections would also solve thermal expansion when done correctly.
I mean there are good reasons to be skeptical about this.
for me i would pay $260 for a premium class ticket
>Running on wheels
This would be so easy to sabotage with a bomb. Then again, so would a train.
@Carl Klinkenborg idk, make it titanium...or something. Unless you mean a meteor.
Maybe a bullet
