Yep it was a weird thing to say to someone who is speaking to you in Cantonese, since that language is pretty regionally specific to that canton of which Guangzhou is the capital. He was probably caught off guard.

Just by walking around walmart he was able to demonstrate that 1. He can speak multiple languages 2. He is willing to learn when corrected 3. America is a mixing pot 4. When ypu speak someones language they can't help but smile and be happy, especially if you are fluent and kind.

Hi Moses, the Kenyan guys you were speaking to around 42 minutes were being a bit rude. Firstly, they did start speaking another language half way through (Kikuyu I think) which is why you couldn't understand. Also, as they were not muslim, they were kinda making fun when you said your name was Musa instead of Moses and then by saying 'Asalamu alaikum' to you. When you were then telling them where you studied Swahili, Peter asked if it was in Garissa- which is a place in North-Eastern Kenya which is almost exclusively muslim/ Somali. That's why he later stated that you have learned about Islam and asked if it was from Garissa, Mombasa or other coastal areas in Kenya. Just thought I should let you know. Your Swahili is great btw, love your videos!

The entire country is extremely diverse. I'm a truck driver and have been to nearly all the lower 48 states. I've heard so many different languages in one day it was hard to keep count.

Learning and speaking other languages brings smile anytime whether you are pro or beginner. People will like it anyway. Thanks for inspiring me. Laoshu, I think that Kenyan man was speaking Kikuyu..."wi mwega" is "how are you" in Kikuyu. Kikuyu is actually the main indigenous language in Kenya, though Swahili and English are official.
