    Today at Speedy's Garage we finish the project of pinning the crank on our Dodge Hellcat Challenger Go Man Go. Not too bad with the right tools, and we show the difference in the original crank bolt and the new design that comes on all new Hellcats including the Hellcat Redeye and Dodge Demon. This will apply to the Dodge Hellcat Demon as well as the Dodge Hellcat Redeye and Hellcat Chargers. Be careful with the drill bits, they can be brittle and you definitely don't want to break it and get it stuck in the crank snout. I'd recommend using the drill bit I linked to above as well as some tool oil to ease the job.

    Machinist here ..
    kit should come w carbide drills , and carbide center drill/reamer finish to prep the hole...so hole is straight...also cutting oil....maybe a snubby/short drill for clearance ....good video keep it up 💪.....

    The bit that came in my kit wouldn’t even put a scratch on the forged crank. When I settle into the new house I will give the cobalt drill bit with the cutting fluid a try. Oh don’t let Mrs. Speedy see you using her mirror...😁🤣

    I like the way your brain works, very meticulous. When you get that lift installed this type work will be so much more pleasurable. Love this channel.

    I did the same thing on my 2016 hellcat...you did a great job ...I did my in 2017 ....did 1050 injectors, replace the axles to 1400 hrs each.. replace the driveshaft 4inch Gforce aluminum.... replace the throttle control to 100 mm... replace the exhaust to MF competition... replace the intake to AF Momentum.. replace the upper pulley to metro 2.85......ATI 10% overdrive super dumper..lower it also..and added the front upper adjustable control arms and the rear upper adjustable control arms. Also did a tune ...I have a lot of cash on it .....Man my wife think too crazy for doing All the to my car ...o well...cool video

    I used a cobalt bit on a Milwaukee right angle drill on low speed with plenty of pressure when I did this to my Trackhawk and it worked like a champ. I did a 9% overdrive Innovations West crank pulley and pin kit.

    I really appreciate the videos. The subscription fee was well worth it.
    Prayers to your family. I have been over the road as a trucker and missed updates since the car was stolen. Hopefully the thieves are behind bars.

    Fantastic! Thank you! 😃 Unlike many, my aim with my Hellcats is not to set it to "hooniganism kill". I'd rather capitalize on the already robust & sound engineering, while ironing out weak points to yield a solid, respectable, & reliable performer. 🤔 Along with the well known driveshaft/diff bracing modification, I consider this crank pinning good insurance, even on a stock Cat.🤔

    I don't understand why Chrysler does not pin these high dollar engines either. I broke the ATI pin kit bit on mine and have used Milwaukee bits on mine, my wifes car, and my buddies car on the same bit. It cuts super smooth.
    At least your about ready to turn up the boost with no worries now!

    Since I have suffered the same fate pinning for my Kenne Bell on one of my older SRT's. The trick is to drill little then blow out, then drill then blow out trust me it's the best way. Good luck

    Guessing you didn't need to go to the gym after tightening that crank bolt. 😁
    I agree...there should have been a key on there from the factory...

    Awesome job! Doing my 2020 Redeye next week. Can you tell me if the depth of the pin is Supposed to sit flush with the pulley itself or the actual crank?
    I see there is a small step down between the pulley and the crank.
    Thanks! By far the clearest and most detailed videos out!!

      I measured EXACTLY to the specs the kit dictated. It did look like the pin sat just a hair deeper and I think this is due to the incredible torque placed on the crank bolt. Just make sure to measure three times and drill once :)

    The pin should be below the balancer surface even with the crank so the balancer bolt washer doesnt tighten against the pin and not the balancer .

    Speedy, isn't the pin captured in blind hole one one end, and underneath the big washer on the crank bolt? Wondering the need to Loctite it in there?

      It's definitely not ever coming out, but not sure it would ever need to. I didn't want it vibrating over time enlarging the hole or something.

    What separates your videos from the “herd”, is the fact they are straight forward, no stupid music during your installs and especially the fact that you don’t have a moronic sidekick .....

    Can we just use the upgraded bolt and not pin the crank? I may only tune the car and not change any pullies, or just add the Hellraiser upper. I've been binge watching your channel for the last 2 days and it's awesome 👍

    If anyone at a dealership ever gives you any crap about the mods on your car just tell them watch your videos. You do a much better job than any tech they have. I can see that you're very picky and precise about everything you do so if they start blowing you any shit just tell them to shut the hell up and stand aside.

    Right after I watch this video I took my 2017 hellcat with only 3000 miles for a drive. Two minutes into the drive I lost power steering, AC, voltage light and check engine light came on. First impression was my belt slipped off check the belt it was on, power steering fluid was full of fluid. Took it into the dealership and they just called me and said my crank bolt loosened off and my crank pulley is spinning freely. They said they are going to replace the bolt and pulley but do you think there something else I should be worried about and look for. Love your videos keep up the good work.

    • @SpeedysGarage
      @SpeedysGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      "Usually" when the crank pulley spins like that, it damages the crank snout. I'd be leery of the dealer just putting in a new bolt without some kind of documentation that the crank was shown to be good (with pictures).

    Do you have the 67" race ramps?...think they raise the car 10". From watching you I dont think the 56" versions that raise the car 8" would allow you enough room to remove the fan

    Do you have a part # or otherwise for that crank bolt service tool? Seems like it would be near impossible to keep a socket from slipping off a bolt without it.

    Speedy, where can you get the adapter tool to put on the crank when tightening the new crank bolt to prevent spinning and what is it called?

    Did you finally eliminate the intercooler light coming on?

    • @SpeedysGarage
      @SpeedysGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep, it just took a few drive cycles and gradually topping up the reservoir with distilled water.

    • @carsandguitars7064
      @carsandguitars7064 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Speedy's Garage will the distilled affect the freezing point of the coolant?

    • @SpeedysGarage
      @SpeedysGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn't enough to impact the freezing point. Maybe a cup or two is all it took.
