Try to do this while the printer just has started the infill on a new layer. That way you can prevent holes on the outer shell that might occur due to temporary underextrusion when resuming the print.
Good tip, thanks for watching :)

As a newbie on 3D printing I must say that your video save my project. Thank you
I’m so glad :) thanks for watching
I was in a panic for about half a second when I looked at my roll into my first 40 hour print.
Thank you.
Just make sure you don’t shift the print bed while changing the reel, best of luck and thanks for watching:)
@@3dPrintedSoup Same it was an easy fix once I looked this vid up. I appreciate it :D
You saved my butt, thanks! I had 15 minutes left in a 19hr print. Tried this method and it worked flawlessly.
Glad it helped you. Thanks for watching
You just confirmed that my instincts were good and made me much less worried. Thanks!
Glad it helped :)
Just got my printer yesterday, and this video helped me save a 2 hour print. Thank you for the super quick tutorial
Really glad it helped. Thanks for watching
Thank you so much! I don’t have enough filament in my role left for the print and I started freaking out. This is the exact vid I needed. Tysm
Glad it helped you out , thanks for watching :)
Thanks man! I've got around 20 hours left on my print and I think I will have to change filament but thanks to you I know how to do it mid print!
Glad to help. Hope the print goes well and thanks for watching :)
@@3dPrintedSoup Thank you, so far so good. I just hope I can do same thing on my ender max neo, lol.
The hero we don’t deserve, but need
Lol, thanks for watching :)
Thank you so much for the tutorial! Helped me out a bunch!
No probs, glad it helped. Thanks for watching

No problem, thanks for watching :)
Thanks for actually showing the screen clearly on those steps. 91% through first print, and looks like I've got about 2 ft left. 🤞
Best of luck mate, thanks for watching :)
Thanks dude, kinda makes sense but as a newbie its good to know I'm on the right track with some of my thinking
Simple trick but I’m glad it helped :)
great video mate!
Perfectly explained! 👏👏
Glad it was helpful!
this helped me a lot, thank you
Glad it helped!
Thank you for helping me!
Happy to help!
Golden work sir
Thanks much

Thanks matey :)
Perfect process, especially for color changes.
Thank you! Cheers!
!WARNING! I have an Ender pro 3 with the latest MB. I paused the print and it just stopped where it was. So I auto homed, so I could run a little extrude and make sure the new filament was coming out ok, figuring the printer would know it had been homed and pick up the print from there.
IT DID NOT! It seemed to think that it was still where it had paused and started trying to print from there, crashing my print nozzle into my bed, and causing my steppers to jump as it tried to push down through the print bed. Be really careful and don’t make the same mistake. Hope that helps others to avoid this issue. Oh, and my print was ruined 12 hrs in with 4 left to go 😢😢😢
Indeed, don’t auto home if you pause a print, the printer will forget where you were up to. Sorry to hear about your print mate, it sucks when a long session fails mid print. Cheers for watching
@@3dPrintedSoup Thanks. It’s all part of the learning curve I guess, and one of those mistakes I’ll only ever make once 😊
Yes mine stops where I pause it, how do I fix this
Thanks!
This helped me.
Glad it helped :)
Excellent video.
Thanks, and thanks for watching:)
you just saved my print thanks
Glad it helped :)
TLDR;
Get your new spool. Gut at 45 degree angle at a nicely curved piece of the PLA
Pause Print
Remove filament from extruder and tube.
Load new spool. Feed thru extruder and tube all the thru to the hot end.
Preheat PLA. Preheat bed.
Resume Printing
Or make an entertaining and informative video about it and not use boring text…just saying
Also, do you not see the irony of saying TLDR to a video and then using text to list how to do it?
Thanks! It helped me while I was an inch to loose the filament 😂
Glad to help :) thanks for watching
Thanks, this video just saved my a$$ ,only had about 10cm left (excluding what was in the Bowden tube)and was only on 90%
So glad it helped :) thanks for watching!
Love the video, how come the audio only plays on my left headphone?
Had a mic issue on this one, recorded in mono for some reason
Thanks, Mate!
No problem :)
OK, just saw this and made a newbie mistake!!! Everything was as you said but when I was inserting the filament, I moved a tinny bit the printing head, and the entire project was shifted those few mm.... thank you for your video :)
Easy to do mate. Glad you liked the video :)
I was wearing headphones with the left ear off, I played your video and thought I had an audio issue, before putting the other ear on and realizing you uploaded your video with all audio on the left channel >.
Just a quick video I filmed 5 years ago.
@@3dPrintedSoup sorry wasn't trying to be a dick. Just tell my confusion in the situation to provide whatever entertainment that gives.
@@thomasn8759no issue, my production quality was a little less polished when I first started out :) thanks for watching
@@3dPrintedSoupthen you already earned my subscription, just 5 years late. I'm just getting into 3D printing now and your videos have helped me, thank you. And thank you for the direct interaction.
I reply when I can :) glad to help
Thank you
You're welcome
Tried to do this over USB from Simplify3D but it didn't work. Not sure if there is something different about controlling the printer from the Simplify3D Machine Control Panel. In fact, the front panel commands were ignored. I had to Pause Print form inside Simplify3D. The print got pretty gobbed up right out of the chute on the first layer when I Resumed Print. I have to practice a few more times to see if it is something I did wrong and can avoid.
PS = I am running the Marlin for BLTouch and it gives you a Change Filament command from the front panel which is a little smoother than just pulling the filament out while the nozzle is still hot.
I don’t network my printers so don’t know if it’s possible to stop start prints remotely. Let me know if you find out how. Cheers for watching
This just saved me cause my filament snapped over halfway into a 14 hour print. It snapped between the feed mechanism and the roll and I wasn't sure what to do about that.
Glad it helped :) thanks for watching
hey, i can´t hear you so well, i think its because the sound of your video is only playing into the left ear of headpohnes and the unlucky thing for me is that iam partly deaf on left ear.
Edit: i had problem with this only in the intro. Btw really nice video, iam new into 3D printing so it assured me that i did it the right way.
Sorry about the sound mate, by the time I realised it was uploaded and being watched. Glad it helped :)
I may have to try this on my current print. Very scared im gonna mess up the axis
It’s a risk, just be gentle when you squeeze the extruder and don’t push down too hard and you will be fine :) best of luck 😊
After hitting pause print and installing the new filament, the menu does not show the prepare menu anymore. Any reason why?
Yeah, prep is for before you hit start. You have paused a print mid action, when you unpause the print will revert to the exact temp, layer and speed that it was running at when you hit pause, as such you can’t prep for a print that’s in progress.
Watching this video with four inches left of pla and 3 hours left on print
Hope you caught it in time and that my video helped :)
@@3dPrintedSoup yep! I was able to save it. I can't tell you how thankful I am. This is only the second print I've ever done and I thought it would break something or overheat if it ran out. Thank you :)
@@J_J2552my pleasure, glad it helped
on my ender 3 stock i hit stop and it stops on place if i try do move de nozzle it lose its way and start print on the wrong place
I believe if you choose pause instead of stop you should have more luck. Thanks for watching :)
My printer just crush while pausing the print 😂.Either way good video
Sorry to hear that. It seems that pause works on most versions of the ender3, but there are some firmware/hardware versions that have issues. Cheers for watching :)
My printer stops in the middle of the printing, can I maybe set the printer to go home position evry layer?
Okay, I’ve check on this I’m not sure there is a way to get a printer to go to home after every layer easily, hope all works out for you.
Idk about all of you but I take note how much filament I've used on each roll so when I go to do a new print I can tell if I will have enough on that spool before I even start. I save spool leftovers for doing small prints that color doesn't matter
Yup, I imagine allot of us do this, but sometimes there can be a miscalculation and that’s when this is helpful. Thanks for watching
Sound advice, I might have to start doing that.
I did what you said and my print that was going for 11 plus hours stoped I paused print then did the Filament I started print it didn’t work so I did auto home then resume print and it knocked it off bro I’m so sad 😞
Sorry to hear your printers pause failed. You say your print stopped and then you paused it?
@@3dPrintedSoup no I paused it like you said and loaded the filament when I pushed it through it was extruding sinc so wanted it to not get on the print I auto homed it resend print then it knocked it it off it couldn’t have completely been my fault but to fix it and no waste filament I went to my slicer and found to part it stoped at and right now I’m printing the rest so hopefully I can glue them back together but it was a bummer seeing it fail also to mention I don’t think it was the tutorials fault it could of just been mine
@@Yourboytanner_yt yeah, I’ve had a few people say they auto homed the print before resuming, this seems to throw the printer off so I recommend loading new filament and continuing without auto homing. It’s always touch and go when you run out mid print . Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, much appreciated :)
@@3dPrintedSoup ive followed these steps but when i press resume it moves to the location where it stopped printing but hten it doesnt do anything
@@sky_kbrookes if you pause and resume then it should continue the print once it’s back up to temp
Did this but it literally stopped in place. Once I got it changed it it ran the nozzle through everything already printed and screwed up the whole print
Happens sometimes if you push down too hard on the printer and move the axis slightly.
My printer pauses over the print instead of going to the side, when I swap filament and guide it into nozzle it begins to connect with print and causes a defect. Any advice?
Depends which printer you have. This video is for the Ender 3 . Give me some me more details
@@3dPrintedSoup I believe I have Ender 3 V1
@@Prepping4allthen I would recommend updating your firmware to the latest version, that may help :)
my printer dose not auto home when i press pause it just stops in place and starts to melt the print where ever it stops why?
Which printer are you using? And which version?
@@3dPrintedSoup I'm having same issue on ender 3 pro
Hey guys, I'm having the same issue. My printer is a Ender 3 Pro. I just got it like a week ago. Do I have to update the firmware or something?
@@mauromendez1815 definitely try a firmware update, they are available on creality’s website
@@mauromendez1815 same problem and It doesn't look like its easy to update firmware with out extra stuff. why would they take features away from pro version??
I cut the old filament square while it's still printing close to the extruder. Cut the new filament square, and then follow the previous filament end as it disappears into the extruder and follow with the new filament. You need to hold it there for a while to handle retractions, but this works for me.
Will have to give that a try. Thanks for watching
Audio is on LEFT channel ONLY! :(
Might be your headphones
@@3dPrintedSoup yeah my headphones have audio in both ears LOL thanks for the vid
i crached my print head first time i tried this ass i slipped and pushed the bar right down.
Ouch!
@@3dPrintedSoup lol wish i could upload SS to youtube :) my kids kitty piggy bank still doesnt have the top of its ears casuse of this. i was suppost to try modeling clay to fit it, that was a year ago
COULD OF TOLD ME NOT TO MOVE THE AXIS BEFORE IT SMASHED INTO MY 30 HOUR PRINT
4.25 seconds “don’t knock the axis” - always good to watch videos in full before you try something.
