  • New tires and wheels courtesy of eBay from a 1975 C-120. Fit up really nice and will be able to put my chains on to push snow. Also, tightened up a loose fitting that was misting synthetic oil. Its an o-ring fitting so it shouldn't leak. Running Mobil 1 full synthetic 10w30 which lets the hydraulics operate in cold weather.

    Good job, as usual. Those tires sure did the trick.

    Tip: put the chains on deflated tires as tight as possible then inflate to snug up the chains they won't go anywhere. Also wheel weight

    I watched this because I love wheel horse tractors - I REALLY like yours and your videos. I too despise having to put the chains on my X320 I am going try your method, thank you!

      Thanks a lot Jay and appreciate you watching. On my Wheel Horse 520H I have Ag's on it, so haven't put chains on. I could use a little weight though. Snow blade is going on this weekend, so I'm planning a video.

    I have a 1989 312-8 with plow blade - used it to move snow in driveway bigger than yours for 30 years - has a modest slope - handles up to about 8-10 inches - but with deep snow need to angle blade --- i have wheel weights - and used chains up to couple years ago - - you will find on cold days an asphalt driveway surface is glazed with a moisture sheen and when the tractor hits heavy snow resistance the metal chains will actually spin on the driveway and actually LOOSE traction ... one year it snowed and i had not put chains on yet - -and actually found the tractor plowed better with the turf tires and NO chains because instead of the metal chains spinning, the rubber turf tires actually got better traction -- not sure your driveway surface or if a slope or how much snow you try to push but that's my insight since you are changing tires and using chains now

    The used tires are in good shape ...Big zip ties also help to tighten up tire chains

    i use the same tires with chains and wheel weights that i use on my 876 wheelomatic to plow snow. i have ag tires also, these work much better in the snow and ice.

    I'm missing the center bracket on the plow that the chain attaches to. The previous owner said it broke off and I'm not handy enough to make one myself. Do you know if there is a way to rig something up or have the dimensions so I can have one made up? Thanks in advance!

    • @CraigArndt
      @CraigArndt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That center bracket is welded onto the frame of the blade, wonder what he hit to break that off. Since you're using a chain, you just need a piece of steel welded to the center with a 7/16" or 1/2" hole in it. It only sticks up 3" above the frame and can really be any size since the chain length and position of the top pin on the trunnion (that you access behind lower dash) determines lift height of the blade.

    My AGs work well with 55lb weights on em.

    Craig its not the tires buddy,,, you have next to no weight i have 110 lbs on each wheel and 100 lbs in suit case weights hanging off the back... ag tires work excellent in the snow,,, with the proper amount of weight..

      It pushes in the street with ags, no trouble at all, but my driveway is sealed and I can't get any traction. More weight would help you're right, but definitely need something to bite. Once I put the chains on it pushed no problem in the driveway. Plus now I have a spare set.

    Why didn't you just get some free wheels and tires from a junk Craftsman or something locally? All 12 in rim's will interchange.
