    Sire is a much clearer sounding bass. Fenders are cool, but they are muffled sounding in comparison. Marcus had something to do with the pickup design of the Sire. I got a V3 5 string, replaced the tuners w hipshot ultralights and had the bass setup. It’s really an incredible instrument. Also just over 8 lbs, so very lightweight for those long gigs. For $450 or so you can’t go wrong. I’m thinking of getting a V5 just because.

    Not really a looser here, both sound great. Sire sounds like I’d want a good 70’s Jazz too; brighter, punchy, lively and dynamic. People say it has hotter pickups but IME hotter pickups usually mean more midrange and a rolled off top end. New Fenders sound darker and more compressed in my opinion but I think that one sound very good. Great playing! Cheers!

      Ciao io sto per ricomprare un Sire. Cambiando i PickUps con dei Fralin o simili, il gap si accorcia parecchio o sparisce. I Pickups Sire finzionano bene solo se attaccti ad un preamp spinto tipo il Sadowsky.

    I think the fender has a very fender sound as usual but with a very very good active enhancement that keeps the fender sound with a thicker quality. Sounds like a fatter fender sound rather than a pre-amp sound? Many makers have their passive tones that sound like the wood that the bass is made of and then flick the active switch and you get the sound of the pre-amp which barely makes a difference in what bass you have it in. Fender did great work with maintaining the active fender sound. However the Sire seems to have a clarity that is very exceptional and as he turned the tone knob the tone variation was incredible. I think I gotta go with the sire. Very very close but the sire can do the fender sound but the fender can’t do the sire.

      Where is the benefit of the roasted neck in your opinion in the feel or the sound? I noticed that Marcus only uses a V10 now with a roasted neck. I have two v7's one is stock other than hardware. I changed the bridge and tuners and knobs and put a custom leather pick guard, but electronics are factory but my other V7 has a Michael Pope 4 band flex core with nordstrand hum canceling 70's jazz pickups. I also swapped out the tuners and bridge ( both basses are swap 5 strings) I actually buy strings for a 6 string bass and I use the .35 for my G and the 105 for the B. For me I love the light high string pop and I still get lows but I avoided playing a 5 string for years because I felt like the B never sounded pretty? It was deep but floppy and I only heard the B used for quick accents, so when I used a lighter string I can actually use it in melodies and get beautiful music from it as well as that low B vibe.

    • @virgilpopescu9478
      @virgilpopescu9478 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@steviedebarge77 Interesting, but with that gauge for the strings your instrument is rather a cello guitar than a bass. And... the B string is a blessing for the bass players, some of them even tune it a whole step down for more low range (these are the gospel bass players).

    People forget that half of the fender tone is the medium jumbo frets. If you want that above all else, they aren't the sole option either. That's what the tiny tyaste of fart comes from. And the way it comes to the forefront depends upon the basic eq profile created by the pickups themselves. That little part of the sound is the one thing that is hard to reproduce on a cheaper bass. But other expensive brands, like G&L, even have medium jumbo frets on their lower-end lines.
    On the other hand, Sire is taking the Jazz Bass sound and adding the snap that comes with medium and medium-tall frets. Trying to get that same snap sound found easier in medium and narrow frets is one of the reasons Fender-worshippers try to use different pickups on Fenders. Leo Fender may have been a prophet, but the message has changed and the actual technology of guitars is far better understood by others now than Leo ever did then.
    Hard facts.

      Yeah and no.. Leo design an instrument with the approach of basic simplicity and not only did it work it still working.. it’s the most copied design of any bass that’s out there.. but here’s the thing .. you need to learn how to play, and get a short scale bass, they are too big for your hands and arms
