We can also use our energies to make the justice system better, because there is NO better alternative system. Have a lovely weekend.

Yes, I think Pape’s got a solid handle on it, but it’s not just racial demographics, which have long been an issue in the U.S. for the last 100 years. We didn’t descend into chaos back then. I think it’s our media environment - the algorithm, in part - which greatly amplifies the perception of social change. The right is practically in a racial panic at the moment, not so much because of the reality of immigration, which is significant, but because of the flood of infantile fantasy imagery and paranoid fear that’s being broadcast to us through our phones and computers and TVs.
Uhhh I think there was chaos back then. Many activists were killed, many regular people were killed, there were riots, . 1 president was killed, a senator was killed, a war divided the country. Lol.
@@bkinstler I'm getting ready to publish a work that shows the eugenics based anxieties that fueled every stepping stone of our fledgling immigration system. Remember how American Horror Story did a series based on November 2016? Kids were yelling....clowns are coming... all over America? Well, this one is even creepier. In fact the whole Trump presidency was one big violent shtstorm.
In Canada we have experienced 2 political assassinations in our history. Thomas D'Arcy McGee was a Montreal member of parliament who advocated for a confederation of Canadian provinces. He was shot to death outside his Ottawa boarding house by a Fenian (Irish nationalist) in 1868 -- the Fenians considered him a traitor to their cause of an Ireland free from Bitish rule. Pierre Laporte was a journalist, lawyer and politician and Liberal deputy Premier of Quebec. In 1970 he was kidnapped by Quebec separatists from the Front de Liberation du Quebec, and strangled to death after he attempted to escape. This was so sad because he was a family man who was the sole support of his wife, mother, and large brood of children.
An interesting observation concerning this election cycle- people in our community continue to display signs in their yards supporting local issues and candidates, but Its rare to ever see a yard sign supporting one of the presidential candidates. Perhaps an indication of the anxious undercurrent concerning this presidential race. Public discourse seems to be restricted to on-line forums where anonymity can be maintained. This will be one for the history books.
When mere conversation leads to (or exacerbates) domestic violence, the silence is beyond deafening- it's downright debilitating @ellenrichmanphd8840 .
I just read 'Strangers in Their Own Land' by sociologist Arlie Russell Hochschild which goes a long way in explaining this white backlash and fear of losing their white privilege as demographics shift in the this country. This is particularly true for young white males as women and minorities continue to use education as a tool to take their rightful place in the highest levels in business and government.
Looking on in horror and dismay. This is not a sideshow. What is happening in the U.S. has deadly serious consequences all over the world, nowhere moreso than here in Canada. 🇨🇦💙
Economic inequality aggravates ethnic tensions in our society--Had the democrats, to a significant extent, not ignored the needs of working class people we would not have had the rise of Donald Trump and other fascists. Biden has done a lot to redress the problems by investing in programs which benefit ordinary people--it's unfortunate that people have not understood this. If democrats are elected people will continue to reap benefits from his programs.
Biden came into office after Trump drove up the deficit by giving billionaires tax breaks. Trump botched COVID-19 response. Trump ruined the economy. Biden turned all that around, passed infrastructure, and the chips act. Biden will go down in history as one of the best presidents. Trump will go down as the worst.
I have been involved in reproductive rights activism since the 1980s. I have NEVER heard anyone express support for political violence to undo Dobbs. Similarly, NO-ONE on the left --especially not Harris--has entertained the kind of violent fantasies we hear from Trump and the right. Calling out the hateful speech by the right is NOT the same thing as expressing toleramce for violence. I'm shocked at the "both sides" emphasis in this discussion. No-one on the left is filing lawsuits to position themselves to overturn the election if Trump wins. No-one on the left is sending armies of partisan poll watchers to harrass election workers. No-one on the Left is threatening Republican secretaries of state. The false equivalence in Dr Pape's discussion here is mind-boggling. I've followed his work and that of his colleague, Kathryn Belew, for some time. I cannot believe the framing here.
"White" people will still be the largest and dominant demographic, regardless of how many non-European ethnicities migrate to this country. If we are going to split people up by ethnicity, then we can't lump Latino people in with Black people, in with South Asians, in with Asians, in with Indigenous Americans, etc..., all together as some kind of homogenized blob called "not white". I personally blame mainstream media for all the hype that occurred around 15 or so years ago about "white" people becoming a minority. They're the ones who made possible the "Great Replacement Theory" that would invoke unhinged paranoia among the most gullible, unbalanced, bigoted and xenophobic portion of our citizenry.
You mean like the MAGAs threatening and assaulting poll workers, or the guy brutalizing Paul Pelosi? Or the threats against the Haitian community in Ohio? Or the MAGAs hunting FEMA workers after the 2 Hurricanes?
For some reason, I think Pape is full of it. Particularly when he talks about how the left wants to "accelerate that shift" (starting around 6:03). With that statement, Pape reveals that he is one of those who believe in the "Great Replacement Theory". He's particularly condescending (and not in a good way) and has all the perceptiveness, nuance and discernment of a bowling ball.
An interesting parallel would be the early 1920s. 1) Right after WW1 during which…after USA entry…there was severe anti-German freedom of speech legislation and public opinion. 2) Right after major pandemic. 3) Significant anti-immigration sentiment. Passage of the Anti-Immigration law of 1924 which more or less ended the “great” period of early 20th century. 4) Prohibition. 5) Rise of the KKK…who were extremely nativist AND pro-prohibition. The KKK of that period were very Christian nationalist. 6) Rise of anarchist political violence. 7) Nationwide “middle American” endorsements of the use of police-state tactics to crack down on organized labor strikes. There was an overall belief that “organized labor” was a communist threat that was infecting the country from a “sick left-wing Europe”…probably over represented by Jews. 8) It didn’t help that there was this “thing” in post-war Europe called “Russian Civil War”. A decade later, the Nazis were saying Europe should be grateful to them for acting as a bulwark against the “spread of Communism” from the East. Many in western Europe and the USA agreed.
For each case above... "follow the money." Who was making profits from the situations and what means were used to maximizing profits via manipulating the public opinion and controlling politicians?
Voting Fact: North Carolina unanimously and publicly approved bipartisan changes to simplify in-person and mail voting in counties affected by Hurricane Helene, applying equally to all voters, regardless of party affiliation."
How do the public have access to ballot boxes? Here in Australia elections are managed federally 17:25 by the Election Commission. Ballots are either posted by voters in advance or we attend a voting centre, usually a school, on a Saturday. Nobody can access ballot boxes other than at the time they vote in person, surrounded by lots of other people at a centre. I also don’t understand why the US can’t have all the postal ballots counted by the end of the voting day? The successful candidate needs to be named on the night surely.
Correction, elections are run by counties within the states. Citizens living in US Territories are NOT allowed to vote for President because of the Electoral College rules that require you to live in a state to vote for President.
3:23 Prof Pape makes a critical (albeit somewhat common) error by starting his ‘lecture’ re: current change w/ superficial focus on white vs minority shifting demographics. Error due to baseless & facile assumption that each color is monolithic. Moreover, only pointing out that whites will lose majority ignores fact that whites will retain plurality 🤦 IMHO, in 21st century, colour has less significance than economic status/concerns/opportunities. Resurgence in racism fueled by manipulating economic issues -- eg, ‘great replacement theory’ & diverting resources/housing.
The anxiety has to do with private equities monoliths unhousing, and unhealthing, the majority of the people in general of all shades and cultures, like we are fish in a barrel.

Why is he able to get away with this method or this kind of behaviour is tolerated . There are very wealthy group of people likes to control, like in Russia, North Korea, China, Saudi Arabia! People have no civil liberties, no freedom of conscience. And the rule of law becomes vague.

The 'Replacement Theory'?? No one is being 'replaced'. What they're afraid of is losing CONTROL. Now, me myself and I, all three of us, never have been in control of much of anything other than MY business. And It hasn't been an easy life, it hasn't been a pretty life, but it was mine and I learned how to adapt, accept, stand strong and make myself happy. That I believe is what I feel people miss. No-one is responsible for your happiness but you. People are going to judge you and find fault with you no matter what. So just be who you are that you are happy with. Be someone you can be PROUD of , you can forgive yourself for not being. perfect, you can laugh at your self and when people are mean to you know that is a bigger reflection of who THEY are rather than being right about who YOU are. Because no one decides who you are other than you. If what they say that you don't like hurts because there's some truth to it, know that you CAN changed that. And then set to work aking a more perfect you.
Except whites.
Ironically, the people whining about being replaced are also the only people trying to oppress everyone else, go figure.
JD Vance has an Indian wife, so he could be replaced. His children are Indian. They have Indian names. The project 2025 people won't like that JD Vance has an Indian wife.
So, I predict that after Trump loses his sanity, JD Vance will become President. Then, the Project 2025 people will try to replace JD Vance with someone else.

The first big step would be the return of the Fairness doctrine in all media!
All news reports should have to be unbiased and fair representation of all sides in all issues!
This is an overlooked comment. News in all forms were held to certain standards, even on the editorial page of papers.
The fairness doctrine gives power to the government and media control over people's opinions. I would not be allowed to voice THIS opinion. This administration calls anything they disagree with "misinformation. "

This is a nation of immigrants. Meaning, the people from around the world have chosen USA is the best place for freedom, that is why they have emigrated to this land.
Trump never thinks he is an immigrant, because, he was born here. However, his grand-parents are immigrants from Germany, that made him the descendant of immigrants.
The Native people / The Indigenous people were here before the people from Europe entered this land. The USA is the land of immigrants. Therefore, whoever is the best qualifying person for the presidency job, that person will be hired to run this country. your vote is authorized to hire that person. Go vote !!!
Trump also married 2 immigrants -- funnily enough, from former Eastern Bloc countries 🤷
I agree….We are all immigrants if we are not Native. People who think they are better than others and have more rights than anyone else are disgusting. Vote for decency.

Another is the perceived damage, remedy and justice for white collar crime, which I think is not looked at harshly enough.
Judge Cannon and Judge Kasmerick (sp?) expose another problem, appointing highly partisan judges who do not follow the law as intended but are looking for loop holes to further their ideology’s or career.

Lol.

That black globe behind Prof Pape says it all. He is ahead of his time.
And the sad thing about it is that darker hued people have always been the global majority. These racist whites just don't want to lose "control."
No matter which side you are on, anything gained by violence will be lost quickly. And most likely rebound for a net loss.
Political violence?

What is excellent to hear?
For some reason, I think Pape is full of it.
Particularly when he talks about how the left wants to "accelerate that shift" (starting around 6:03).
With that statement, Pape reveals that he is one of those who believe in the "Great Replacement Theory". He's particularly condescending (and not in a good way) and has all the perceptiveness, nuance and discernment of a bowling ball.
I think its clear which side he is on
President Obama has also stressed “Don’t BOO- VOTE!!!”
Nope. No parallel in history
The successful candidate needs to be named on the night surely.
we have 50 States that run 50 different ways! Our Presidential election is run by each of those territories.

Great analogies from Professor Pape!
3:23 Prof Pape makes a critical (albeit somewhat common) error by starting his ‘lecture’ re: current change w/ superficial focus on white vs minority shifting demographics. Error due to baseless & facile assumption that each color is monolithic. Moreover, only pointing out that whites will lose majority ignores fact that whites will retain plurality 🤦
IMHO, in 21st century, colour has less significance than economic status/concerns/opportunities. Resurgence in racism fueled by manipulating economic issues -- eg, ‘great replacement theory’ & diverting resources/housing.
Please explain the monkeys and nooses when Obama was elected? That was the 21St century, so it aint never been colorblind

The likes and character of Trumps are obvious using the Mach ways, Ambitious people , whose character is tyrannical tendency, is not the way. Why is he able to get away with this method or this kind of behaviour is tolerated . There are very wealthy group of people likes to control, like in Russia, North Korea, China, Saudi Arabia!
