A joy to watch your wood turning videos. Always inspiring and I admire your imagination to keep coming up with great ideas and sharing your knowledge. Well done. One Handed Maker - Australia
Seeing all the lovely byproduct from the turning of the inside reminded me of the face that stuffed animal makers of yesteryear used “wood wool” to fill their creations. That would be a great way of finding actual use for all the byproducts of wood turning.
"Dig " those shavings! (Teenage language a few years back). Timely, Mike ,as I have a 10" oak platter currently" number 3 in the queue". Very nice, and sycamore is my most frequently used wood. Thanks for the revision, I shall try some pyrography on mine. Bernard.
Thanks, this is very timely and helpful. I have a cherry blank about the same size already mounted on my lathe, but have been hesitant to turn it. I'll give it a try now.
A very nice platter Mike. And big. 15 inches is a lot of wood to spin. You handled it very well. Excellent finish too. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Hi Mike, Beautiful job, and thanks for sharing! One question- from the shavings it looks like the blank was pretty green. Are you concerned about warpage, or was the customer okay with the movement as it dried? I was surprised to see this was once turned. Thanks again! Dan
Great bowl. Is there a great deal of difference between a mineral oil finish and the butchers block finish. If there is I will get some butchers block finish.
Hey Mike, superb bowl. I love the figure and chatoyance. One question for a fellow turner that always struggles on pricing pieces…how much would you charge for that? I am thinking £200-250? Hope you don’t mind me asking.
Very nice piece Mike thanks for sharing glad to see you back in the shop and doing videos
Thank you Shane that's kind of you to say so. Cheers. Mike

Thanks for showing this beautiful piece. A complete aside, are you still using your Sorby sharpening system?
Thanks Jonathan. As great as the Pro Edge is I wanted more versatility, so sold it and went back to CBNs and a slow speed grinder.
a great bowl and video, Mike what were did you get the attachment for the angle grinder?
Thanks Jim ... the attachment is from Hopewoodturning here in the UK. Cheers. Mike
PS it is a right angle drill not an angle grinder 🙂
Hi Mike,
Beautiful job, and thanks for sharing! One question- from the shavings it looks like the blank was pretty green. Are you concerned about warpage, or was the customer okay with the movement as it dried? I was surprised to see this was once turned.
Thanks again!
Dan
Hi Dan and thank you.
In actual fact the blank was kiln dried, so as dry as it will ever be 🙂
Great bowl. Is there a great deal of difference between a mineral oil finish and the butchers block finish. If there is I will get some butchers block finish.
Basically the same but I think the Butchers Block Oil is more refined and contains vitamins too. Thanks for watching and your support Anthony.
Nice piece Mike, what will you be doing with it (keeping, selling)?
Thanks Nigel ... it will he up for auction in Stephen Kearvells charity auction in October.
Cheers
Mike.
