YES! FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO CAUGHT THE KEY SHIFT AND WHAT IT SYMBOLIZES! "I'm caught in a lie" in major basically means that he has to act happy even when he's not, how he always has to put on a brave face.
Jimin wrote the lyrics for Lie himself, it is a deeply personal song for him even if it works for the storyline, he said the song is about how, before, he used to punish himself for "mistakes" no one else noticed, constantly telling himself he was bad, or doing wrong. If I'm not wrong, he helped with the melody too. Jimin talked in a livestream about Promise (his song) and how it was a sequel to Lie, to counter everything he used to believe, and said Lie is a very painful song for him and he actually doesn't like it, which makes me feel a bit guilty of Lie being my favorite song.
I think Jimin is one of the greatest performers of our time, if not ever, he has something, you know? An innate charisma that makes him perfect for the stage, it's also how passionate he is that totally transfixes the audience. Jimin said once that, no matter what, as soon as he steps on a stage and he starts dancing, everything else disappears, and you can see that in his eyes, the intensity he holds. He's amazing.

♦️Jimin wrote the lyrics not only by himself, but was the only one to send his very first draft to the producers, and it was approved, so no need for a rewrite! The lie is the lie he keeps telling himself. Always in the past aiming for perfection and by doing so always questioning and second guessing himself! Although deep inside he knows better! The other lie is telling himself as well as everyone else that everything is alright when it's not!! Jimin has grown and changed, along with the other members since then. All learning to love themselves for who & what they are flaws and all! Jimin is now able to, as his song Promise says, shine the light on himself, as well, speaking up more when things bother him and allowing himself to laugh off whenever he makes any kind of mistake, knowing now he can always perfect or improve on whatever is lacking next time!!

@Annemay Seyfried - I'm sure the producers tweeked it a bit after they received his draft, as well as did the translated English parts, which is what the producers do with all songs! But I read about Jimin writing that draft all on his own, way back shortly after it was released! A draft actually means a rough outline or copy, the producers at BigHit always go over songs to polish them up to perfection! Back then I didn't make a point is saving all the info that I read always! Nowadays whatever info I read I make a point of saving as proof!! But as far as listing in credits, I read in a comment section for an RM song that even though RM himself said he wrote 80% of this one song, I heard he was still listed in just aboUt the same order! But even RM talked about Jimin writing the song and talked about what he believed it to mean!

Classically trained musicians always like this song, it's composed really intricately. The theme of it is dark though and we're all glad that Jimin is now in a better place mentally (he said himself that this song is important but that's not him anymore, thank god for that) as we dont have many songs written by him yet ,watching the progress is fun - his song Promise is such a huge leap, so reassuring!

People have already said that Lie's lyrics were written by Jimin himself, I just want to add that, as far as I know, he also co-composed the melody too.
Lie is such a song and such a performance (it's been covered many many many times by other idols!)... It's also my favorite BTS song and I really have no words to describe it, because it's just a full piece of art.

Watching you listen to this is like looking in a damn mirror to the first time I ever listened to it. It really is a song where you can't help but constantly say wow at everything about it. I love the strings and the guitar and the white noise in the second verse. His heavenly vocals. Amazing. Everything about this is amazing. Don't even let me get started on the choreo.
ACTUALLY NO. I'M GOING TO GET STARTED ON THE CHOREO. Perfection. Jimin was born to be on stage. His charisma and stage presence and facial expressions. His movement and angles and body shapes. THE BLINDFOLD. THE LIFT. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. The formations and intricacies of this choreography is incredible. The backing dancers are great in this. There's a lot of trust between them for the lift and that makes me happy. The juxtaposition of the popping moves of the verses and the smoother/bouncier ones in the chorus creates a really cool style, fitting with what you said about the major/minor switch. And I especially like how the stage lighting is red during the verses and white in the chorus, which I'm sure is to make the contrast even more evident. Everything about the live performances of Lie is perfection. It blows me away every single time I watch it. Jimin is a performer in every sense of the word.
I remember seeing a lot of theories/rumours about what people thought this song was about/what it meant to Jimin. But I think it's the type of thing that we won't ever really know unless he himself tells us. It really is a beautiful song.

Yeah, Jimin has charisma that slowly grabs almost everyone. Only the very top movie stars have that. I love that wooah. It sounds total Louisiana voo dod to me, which fits perfectly! Jimin wrote the lyrics. I don’t know any more. Also, sorry I’m a year late. Found BTS 2 months ago.

No you are not overhyping!!! This song is genius, traumatic, beautiful, heartbreaking and the performance is superb. I have only heard classical musician reactions pick up that the chord change is a lie in itself. You’re so observant. Love your reactions, keep it up. The lyrics are about being caught in negative self talk (A lie), that voice in your head that won’t leave you alone. Jimin is such a perfectionist but is luckily in a better head space now. Thankfully the other members often say Jimin is the funniest at the moment. 💜

He is one of my cobiases. Yep. For me that’s a thing. But. This song. The first time I heard it I watched the video over and over again, singing along (really glad I can sing) and I was absolutely in love with the entire song. The cello right off the bat really caught my attention. How often do you hear a cello used like that in a song like this? And the intriguing vocal that sounds almost like a gospel chorus and like Motown wrapped into one. The changes in tone. The atmosphere of the song. I agree with all the things that you said about it. One thing that you might not know is that the live performance is also meant to reflect his despair he feels over that lie. This is my favorite song by Jimin by far. I could listen to it all day and not get tired of it. The musical elements are just so intriguing. As is the video and the live choreo.
I love the lyrics that Jimin wrote for all the reasons you feel too. Jimin's melody makes that major a lie, its not just singing the words its making the music lie as well. But more than that the dance he preforms is so good as well the jerking verse the smooth chorus but did you notice that at the end it reminds me of little Richard. When at the end of the concert they have to drag him off but he still does that one last move. No one dragged Jimin off the stage but that one last move was there nontheless.
You'll understand why the jerky head movements when you get to read the Save Me webtoon

Not Gonna Lie, The Wings Tour The Final in Seoul is probably the greatest performance that BTS has ever done live. From start to finish, it was an emotional rollercoaster (plus theres a live band so thats already +10000000 points) ! Hope you get to watch it someday soon!

JIMIN apparently wrote much of the lyrics, obviously with help for the English segments... Melodic ideas probably from Hitman Bang himself, but I’d say the instrumental arrangements are definitely by PDogg.

Even if Bts works with a lot of producers I think people shouldn't downplay their contribution because for example Boy With luv has a lot of co-writers but Rm said himself, in the live he did to talk about Map of the Soul: Persona, that he wrote around 80/90% of the lyrics, he said he didn't do anything on Yoongi's and Hoseok's parts but they are also credited
So it's weird that then co-writers that wrote “Oh text me” want to take credit for the whole song (if you know who I'm talking about then you know)

Definitely check out the Lie Bangtan Bomb; he did almost the full choreo for the mini-MV but you get to see the up close filming; his movements are........when I say once in a generation performer, I mean it
the lyrics are personal and production is largely attributed docskim, one of their in-house producers and a member of their in-house band. lie is really a masterpiece, the textpainting with the key change is absolutely glorious. the live performance just elevates it to yet another level.
Lie is my favorite Jimin song because of the text painting. Also i relate to the lyrics. Im glad JM doesn't really like this song anymore. He has grown so much, and Promise is the sequel to this, basically. It shows his evolution.
During their reaction to the Wings tour, JM said he actually was legit on the ground when he was done with Lie, not cuz he was acting, but because he went so hard.

I'm sure many others have already commented on this, but Jimin debuted when he was around 17ish, and in his debut, he showed his abs, sort f as an attention grabber for kpop fans to get into their band. With that, and how young he was, he felt pressured to keep up that physique, in which he went on self inflicted diets. He also didn't start out as a singer when he was a trainee, so he worked very hard on his singing and never really felt like he was doing his best, she he pushed himself really hard. The song is much about him being caught in a lie of who he is, and such. And I'm really glad you caught that key change at the chorus, I flipped my table when i first heard this song.
Anyways, I would recommend you listen to the Live version of Agust D's Tony Montana with Jimin. It's super hadcore.
Also, Just heads up, I'm pretty sure there was some back track, supporting jimin when he did those dances. Because Jimin is such a passionate dancer, he puts so much into his dance moves that it can be hard to stay stable, which is why you could hear the back track a little at his difficult parts.
This is one of the best bts songs in terms of instrumentals, surprises etc. Well that's my opinion. I never get sick of this song, I love it.

It's him how write the lyrics and produce the song it's writing base on his struggle during his debut
Please note that the song is in 3/4 meter. It makes the choreography "jerky", and gives the whole song the feel of an endless cycle it's impossible to break out of.

Oh god, you need to watch the intro to MAMA 2016 where Jimin and J-Hope performed a mashup of this and Boy Meets Evil. It’s awesome.
y'know............ for some reason this song is like a halloween-y type of vibe. cuz dark humored movies where death, betrayals, fights and stuff. all in sync because of jimin's high note-y next level singing.

I literally just noticed in this react that the LIGHTING CHANGES with the chorus too. Like when it's minor in the verses, the lighting is a dark red and it's dim so everything looks dark, but when it's major in the chorus the lighting is pink and there's also a lot more light so it looks brighter too.

Also to ur question he wrote the lyric. Doc Skim? one of the in house musician is worked on the song with him. Not sure if Jimin himself had any further input towards the melody and instrumentation of the song though since we were never given any more behind the scene information to this masterpiece.
Also Jimin's live performances are honestly amazing. He always improves on the existing thing. So even the same song from the beginning of a tour til the end he'll always bring something new to the table. a true passionate artist.

Lie does have a backing track since the choreo is so intense Jimin doesn't sing every single word. But of course you can still hear his live vocals and he puts on one hell of a show!! Lie is one of my fave choreos, its so mesmerizing and emotive. And jimin is my favorite performer, his charisma is out of this world 😭
In this performance since the choreo is pretty intense the backtrack is a little louder, and in better videos you can see that at some points in the song he doesn't sing or even lip sync at all since the movements are so fast/intense which is understandable. This is one of my all time favourite songs
