I think there was no need to place diode on this place, as its marked with J. There are 2 pairs of 2 diodes. First one in pair died because connector orientation at moment of incident, I believe. Shorted diode is shorted because it protected the device once, problem is resolved because damaged component is removed, not because the one that was added. I believe this port will have problems with some data communication in one orientation, sending video or maybe transfer of data, because of added component on wrong place. 24:07 - Its just that type of day... nothing goes as it should/can. Next day is totally different, faults being fixed expressly. PS. 22:36 - Moment when both components are out, clearly showing traces. (For keyboard experts that require extra explanation.)

There is a usb-c breakout pins adapter, very useful. You plug it and then you have access to both top and bottom usbc raws , you can easily find out the bad diode mode value, by comparing top raw with bottom raw values.
A USB-c breakout adapter or Mechanic T-824 would allow you to take diode mode meanings. Sorry could have done that in the beginning, which would have saved him half an hour.

@@mikanikolic1976 No, the voltage was 4.9v not 14.9v - have another look @ 24:30 - voltage reads 4.981v with the USBC label up. It was always correct with the USB C label facing away (at 14.98v)
New diod is replaced new place. Not a same place you removed. Maybe you remove shorted polarized protection diod when you removed it the short is gone. But the protection also removed. Hi Sorin all that matters it works customer happy ,they don't know about diodes they just want results, good fix , whilst I am here a friend who has just started watching this channel said he enjoys in , but Sorin does not alway give the temperature and volume of air when using the hot air station Regards Jim

The laptop works, he fixed the problem. He's one of the best electronics repair persons on youtube so I'm sure he would review the video and recall the laptop if necessary.
Sorin is a free spirit. The same restrictions does not concern him like the rest of us. So he can fix anything replacing components in random locations. Or not replacing them at all🤷 Well I do the same, I do not replace shorted caps every time. But I do when the track / location only has one for example. But I still do not have the privilege to put the replaced components in any random location😄

Letting the client's violent instincts come out is as important as fixing his laptop. Dr Sorin avoid critics by soldering back another diode (wrong place but no mater data ligne never get surge), beginners can not complain. actually the burned diode is a zener, so you can leave it without... it's fine until surge of voltage happen again (we will get a new video 😊)
He just solder the diode in a different place. I guess that fixed the charging issue. But now that dats like wont work snymore in the other direction the data is not working. Maybe usb data is not working snymore, so some devices are not recognized.

Sorin, There probably was a piece of material on the pin that made it look like a crack. It is probably is the same material that you pulled out from under the connector. It looks like it fell off of the pin as you pulled the unit out of the shell.

yes! he left the shorted diode pads empty, and placed the big replacement diode on the spot right above, in place of something else. That was not an empty spot, so he had to remove something from there, but for some reason, forgot to tell us about that.
Sorin, you have soldered the diod in wrong location -- look at 21:44 and compare with 23:10. The diod must been soldered exactly between D28 and D25 component marking.
Now the board has a new additional Diode 😂😂😂 indeed even without that diode in the position, tbe board is working...i think that's a protection zener diode probably

diode replaced in wrong place, protection on that side removed.
It didn't work - check the voltages - the bad side was 5v and the good side is 15v.
