Thanks for demonstrating musical sounds that aren't drowning in their own reverb. So many PolyBrute demos have only reverb-heavy sounds, which I think is part of why it has developed a reputation on TH-cam for a certain lack of presence. The sounds here show that it's more versatile and can do presence, and that it can make sounds you'd actually want to use in a track. And if you ever make these patches available I'd be interested along with several others here.
The MicroBrute surpassed by the MiniBrute, surpassed by the MatrixBrute, surpassed by the PolyBrute, the last one sounding to me as one of the best polysynths ever.
and the "funny" thing is, each one has something special and unique enough to justify having them anyway, no matter if you own "the next one". I have all 3 Minis and the Poly but sometimes I do lust at the MatrixBrute's I/O capabilities since the MB2/MB2S don't have preset save/recall. Also, the filters have been evolving and none of them have the exact same Steiner-Parker+Brute resulting sound, which is cool too, for diversity.
@@andivax well, in theory yes because of the same OSC types (though a bit tamed for Poly voicing) and Filter 1 being also the same type (again, with Brute factor adapted for Polyphony). I honestly never spent much time trying this specifically since I have both but I can say that the PolyBrute can be a mean 2xOSC mono-synth too (plus w/UNISON) though it'll always be a little different from an MB2 or a MxB Probably the MatrixBrute would be better oriented to "replace" an MB2 than the PolyBrute.
@@KoshDukai agreed (based on TH-cam demos). I just love polyphonic ability of Polybrute. But what about multisaw in Minibrute 2? Is it something like unison in polybrute?
The first demo which could make me buy this machine ! The others don't really show the great potential of this beast, you made it ! Let us now, when your patches are available ! Great job !!!
I like the fact that you show us different custom 80s inspired sounds without constantly playing with the morph button. I understand that morph is a cool feature of this synth but I prefer seeing it being used when it actually makes sense, ie not every 2 seconds like other demos. I think this synth really captures the vibe of the 80s and it sound really fat. I hope this synth will show other synth companies that it's possible to be successful in the market with an analog synth that innovates and is not simply a re-issue of a vintage synth of the 80s.
I agree with you. One or my main concerns about this synth is the lack of demos of it doing classic polysynth sounds, which is something I will need from it, no matter the more experimental and modern stuff which I also like but it´s covered on most videos.
@@liantrosretrospectiva4134. Same here. The Polybrute sounds too thin and bright to do the vintage sounds I’d want from it. It seems easier to get those vintage VCO sounds from a REV 2 (and that’s a DCO synth!)
@@kierenmoore3236 yeah, I noticed that from most videos I saw. This is the one that aproximate the most to a proper old analog synth. About the Rev2, I like it but I have a Prophet 6 that I like more for the way it sounds. The Rev2 have more modulation capabilities though.
@@liantrosretrospectiva4134 Prophet 6 has good VCOs and limited options, so it’s easy to get good (but more limited) sounds from it - for sure. The REV 2 has good DCOs, and loads of options, so it takes more programming skill (experience) to find the sweet soots, but it is far more versatile. Using the gated sequencer of the REV 2, it is possible to sound like a lush VCO synth if however-many voices (up to 8 or 16) - but most people don’t know this is possible, let alone how to do it …
Another vote here on wanting to get hands on with these sounds, as lately I've been hit with the more-sounds bug for Polybrute. The flexibility of it is just crazy.
I recently got a polybrute and I would love to be able to purchase these sounds! I saw in another comment that you just had to clean them up a bit, so if they're ever ready for purchase, please let me know!
Amazing sounds. I would buy these without a moph B state. I don’t think sounds for the PB always need a B state when the A is sooo great! Please share these d as maxing sounds as they are!!!
Yep, waiting is hard! I live in the Washington DC area, and ordered from Sweetwater on Feb. 1. Still waiting. Sweetwater is predicting April delivery now. Sigh.
@@danapfranz I ordered on Feb 25th in Los Angeles. The dealer said that Arturia is being a bit elusive as to their production and distribution schedule. When I asked if it might be a week? a month? they just shrugged their shoulders, laughed, and said that it would probably be well over a month. I would rather wait and receive a solid, bug-free product. But I agree it is going to be a tough one waiting to make some music with this beauty. Some people have been waiting 5 months already! : )
Thank you so much for this! I'm close to pulling the trigger on a Polybrute to become my main poly, but every demo on TH-cam just features 100s of versions of the same dreamy string and pad sounds, which are great, but and I need a synth that can also do bass, leads, arps etc with some bite and aggression. Basically can it stop me also buying ANOTHER access virus. 😂 That unison sound at 7:35? Ooooofff!!!!!
if you're mainly interested in mono/paraphony and Audio/CV I/O, then the MatrixBrute it a safe bet indeed but if the lack of Audio input and CV I/O isn't an issue, then the PolyBrute is a massive instrument :)
Fantastic demo...Does anyone know if this sounds better than the Peak? I had the Peak and there was something "boring" and predictable that I didn't like very much. I got no chance to try one in person before buying. Currently I'm using a Nord Wave 2, which is digital but it sounds better and offers more sonic options than the Novation Peak.
Ok - I'm not seeing something obvious because everyone is playing with one hand while twiddling or using the ribbon cables on this. Can I play 2 chords with 2 hands of at least 4 notes ea? I've never seen 2 chords being put down at the same time. Is it not possible with 6 voices? Literally no one has showed that. At most All I'm seeing is 2 fingerrs on the left (sometimes 3) and some melody being played on the right hand - or 3-4 notes on the right and 2 on the left.
"Can I play 2 chords with 2 hands of at least 4 notes ea? I've never seen 2 chords being put down at the same time. Is it not possible with 6 voices?" 2 x 4 = 8. So what's your guess? Think 6 will do it?
Honestly, the board is a lot of real estate for some mundane yet classic sounds of 40 years ago. You’d think with all these knobs we could push the envelope a bit more.
I am hearing some Jupiter 6 here. Or at least some of that old Roland 80s analogue vibe. Do you reckon Arturia modeled the oscillators on those or perhaps was inspired to voice the Polybrute in that direction?
It really can sound dead on like a Jupiter 6! I'm not sure if they tried to make them sound closer to a CEM3340 than the other brutes, but I can say they sound better to my ear. They polished them up a bit.
@@insidesynthesis I see. It's a really great demo man. And thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated. Kind of hard making purchasing decisions right now because of the pandemic but this helps.
@@insidesynthesis Have you by chance figured out Arturia's envelope settings menu? They appear to offer a multitude of envelope curves to choose from but instead of following industry norms and convention they decided to, in typical Arturia fashion, not follow convention of course. Instead of explicitly calling out the curves in the menus or user manual they have these cryptic names for respective curve settings; like "fast" or "standard" etc. Which is pretty kinda annoying when you consider that say exponential curves start off slower then accelerate to target level. Is that "fast" or "standard"? What envelope curve settings do you use for Roland sounds? Eighties Roland analogues had exponential curves for ADR stages I think.
