I appreciate that Larry is continuing these conversations. Larry you are bringing these people who do not tend to interact in the online sphere to everyone and these ideas are so beneficial to people that are online. Many online Catholics do not get these real Catholic conversations but tend to the perpetually online influence. Hearing on the ground Catholics is needed.
So very worthwhile- the entire discussion. I heard Peter Kreft comment once that the only fiction story he had to read every 12 years or so was The Lord of the Rings. He kept finding that this “fairy tale” impacted how he saw reality. I had to read it bc of this comment… and found it to be exactly as he said. Thank you Gentlemen!
What Rod Dreher said is true. Faith is not just intellectual, it's personal. While I'm not going to become Orthodox, it does seem sometimes that the west focuses on the head while the east focuses on the heart.
Great to hear Dreher reference Mcgilchrist because him and John Vervaeke are the ones that broke me out of my nominal Catholicism. Sorry for coming out of left field but I would like to shed light on younger Catholics who love the non-propositional. There is a young Catholic author from North Carolina by the name of Christopher Ruocchio who is making a splash in the science fiction community. If you want a taste of his work there is a short story (fantasy) that is free to download called The Barrow King. But his main series is basically Star Wars with God in it - Its called SunEater There is one interview on youtube with him, Parker Settecase and Mike Austin where the content is different but the motifs are very similar to what you guys are discussing. You might find the talk about science fiction conventions and the occult very enlightening. Anyway, I hope we are able to one day break this stigma of Catholic headiness - I dont believe Tolkien was a once off phenomena. Please forgive the messy paragraph.
I've always enjoyed Rod's writing despite my considerably more radical politics (in my case a radical non-politics, I am a Christian Anarchist of the variety that refuses political participation). I have read this one as well and would probably push back a little bit on the psychedelic issue, though I would grant the need for caution, guard rails, and concern. I don't think the Church should discount the possibility of their medicinal use, unless we actually want to claim that there is an actual association between psychedelics and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, which seems unlikely, but not impossible. I also think that while certain categories of encounter with aliens and UAP can certainly be considered demonic, I don't think we can attribute all of it to demonic activity. Larry, you seem to be colliding head on with my world lately. Maybe it's time to get you and Paul Vander Klay in conversation? (Ask Kale, he'll explain).
Thank you for this video. I imagine your guest will get to heaven before me however i believe that he has taken a step away from the fullness of Truth (=Jesus) in turning away from Catholicism. Perhaps there is more to the story than he can say and it’s not my business. It’s the feeling i get when the rich, young man rejects Jesus’ offer (though i’m not suggesting that Mr Dreher has rejected Jesus in the same way). But i do believe that he has embraced the less rather than the more. If you don’t feel this to some extent then i don’t understand. I tried to purchase the book a couple of weeks ago… and will do so when i can get it as an audiobook….that i can listen to on my bush-walk in PNG. Keep fighting the good fight.

A delight to listen to- thank you gentlemen.

Wonderful. Keep it up Larry. Just one nerdy point: Jung did not speak of serendipity but, his own neologism, ‘synchronicity’.
The trifecta!

I was on vanderklay’s podcast last year with Kale.
@@gaudiumetspes22dr.larrycha26 I must have missed that one! Glad to hear it!
You guys were actually on screen together. PVK dropped the streamyard link and Grail Country (Nate) joined.
@@Phlebas9202 Right! Now I remember.
@@grailcountry If Kale is tardy on introductions both of you are friends with Michael Martin as well.

Rod talks of giving a talk in Italy …a thousand people …so does he speak Italian ?
Highly simplistic, almost to a reductionism, from beginning to end.
Expand on that
