in 1977 i fell from the chair listening to RTF Big Band with "most fantastic young drummer" Gerry Brown, 1985, already student of music, i fell from the chair again, listening to you guys for the first time, Chick and especially Electric Band, I had the opportunity to meet and talk to Dave Weckl in Summer 1994 at "Malta Jazz Festival", changed my life, you always have been part of it, THANK YOU

Thank you, Dave, John, Frank and Eric, for doing this. You guys are awesome!
Chick Corea's Electrics Band was an incredible moment in music history, you could say.
All the records have that magical, almost Mozartian touch, which is part of his style, his signature.
But in my opinion, the first Album and "Inside out" are the strongest albums of this period of Chick.
Now, talking about Scott Henderson. Scott is an incredible guitarist, with a deep and unrepeatable style. And, with all that is said, the concept that Scott brought to the first Electric band, was never repeated again. His very peculiar improvisations make him for me a kind of Thelonious Monk of the electric guitar. I do not believe, with all due respect, that Frank Gambale, who is a great virtuoso, has brought the same conceptual and musical depth to the chick band as Scott Henderson.
For example, one of the great, magical, and unforgettable compositions of the first album is the track "Cool Weasel Boogie", a serialist and minimalist work that continuously repeats the same theme in a crescendo mode.Well, Scott's work on that track is fabulous, an outpouring of good taste and incomparable conceptualism. I never heard that magic again in the work of Chick, whom I consider one of my idols.
If you have any doubts about what I'm talking about, listen to the discographies of both guitarists and compare them.
    Scott Henderson's compositions are timeless.
Frank Gambale's music, although I repeat, he is an incredible virtuoso, is pure rhetoric.
Dave and Chick's duet on Tale Of Daring (Inside Out) in an absolutely incredible moment on that record. But another moment of great ESP of improvisation between a drummer and a pianist can be heard in the song "Eshun Agwe" by Gonzalo Rubalcaba from the album "Antiguo".

I have to admit, I've been largely paralyzed since Chick's death. I mean, I've kept my head up -- I've been motivated, inspired, and done a ton of practicing, composing, listening; but I haven't been able to shake this sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. You guys are all personal heroes to me, and this tribute filled me up. I don't know how to thank you. I can't wait to hear the release of the live material, and I sincerely hope to see you all together again soon!
Okay, I'm done. Time to make some music!

I miss Chick even more after viewing this amazing tribute. I saw the Electric Band June 18th 1987 at The Chance, in Poughkeepsie, NY. It was so amazing and intense. The place was packed with a very enthusiastic crowd. Pretty fired up & rowdy for a jazz show. They did multiple encores, and I wondered if all their shows were so long? Such a great memory... RIP Chick

I will never forget this privilege to be able to enjoy jazz music. it’s one of the most beautiful presents to see them together talking about their history. I will continue to enjoy their art as long as live. Looking forward to listening their last album with The Maestro.

Chicks loss was huge and I am so sad I will never be able to see Elektric Band. One of my bucket list resolutions since Covid hit last March was to go and see them if they ever got close enough to drive, once this was all over.
      Sadly that will never happen.

Every morning, while driving my daughter to school, which was a 30min. drive, I would play only Elektric Band CDs. I would explain to her, to the best of my knowledge what was going on. I'm sure it drove her nuts but she was very cordial about it because she new how important this music was to me and how much I loved everything about the Elektric Band. Thank you guys...

John, in enjoying you guys play for years on those Electric Band records and live performances, I've heard those bits of solos where Chick was comping along with your solo and then all of the sudden you guys played the same phrase and I figured that was really cool and you guy must have rehearsed that! So the fact that it was spontaneous just blows my mind! I remember buying Mad Hatter in our local head shop in Poughkeepsie NY why back when you used to by vinyl records in head shops! (Yes, way before the internet!). We've lost so many great musicians lately, but I really felt the passing of Chic probably the most! He just has always blown me away ever since I heard the Mad Hatter album. And I'm thankful we have all his great music recorded to keep his music alive forever! (And all those great videos of you guys playing together - Totally Awesome!)

I think it was 1983. I was at rock bottom. I'd been getting weaker and sicker for 8 months. No one could diagnose it. I didn't know what was happening, but it seemed I was slowly dying. Return to Forever was was playing at the Berkeley Community Theater and had a ticket. When I went to see Return to Forever, the effect it had was overpowering. I left actually feeling well--and happy, and I continued to get better. I recovered. I knew that the music was full of transformation energy. Return to Forever had brought something that had cured me, though I couldn't explain it. But now I understand what happened.
When you guys explained Chick Corea's energy and said "It was like he brought all the power in the universe through his hands, his whole being," that and what you said about the solos being "conversations" that could never be repeated. Return to Forever had an amazing conversation with me. Your concert was sublime, and it healed me. Chick Corea embodied Godliness. Rest well, Chick. I owe you everything.

The way you talk about Chick brings tears in my eyes. The feeling Chick gives me when I see and hear him play is sheer joy and gives me a kind of intimicy as if I am a part of "it". The creativity, togetherness and kind musical conversation between him and you fellow musicians is overwhelming. I am so glad his music became a part of me. Beautiful memories.

Dave and Chick's duet after the opening melody in Tale Of Daring (Inside Out) - to this day holds up to the test of time. No drummer & piano player had a more true improvisational ESP in the moment than Chick and Dave. And that shouldn't be lost on any of us.

Thank you, Dave Weckl, for this video stream with the 4 of you guys. I was a total shock us, a few jazz musicians in the Faroe Islands (pulation 53.000), when we heard the news of Chic's passing - way too early.
Chick Corea Elektric Band had a huge impact on us in our band, PLÚMM, and also a few other musicians in the Faroes.
Hearing you guys talking about his essence, summed up in his own words "to be free to create", is the most important lesson we, or at least I (speaking for my self) have learned about playing with other people.
Hearing Chick Corea Elektric Band live at TIVOLI in Copenhagen back in 1988 was, I think, when I learned that lesson, just intuitively, by hearing, and seeing, you guys doing it right there on the spot.
Also. It is so nice to see and hear you guys talk about Chick Corea so lovingly. I have seen a few interviews with Chick lately, after his passing, where I have realized what a kindhearted human being he really was - and so are all four of you too.
You all have been, and are, a great inspiration for my self and a lot of musicians out there. Thank you for what you do and keep going - I love it.
Rest in peace - Chick Corea
All the best, Arnold Ludvig - arnoldludvig.com

Creations that you guys made complete, and brought to fruition so wonderfully. Inspiring!! I can't tell you how much 'food' for creativity I got from the Elektic Band's output. It's incredible to see you guys, talking and remembering so many memories of you with chick. I knew you were giants with your respective instruments, but you're also so funny and humble, I quite didn't expect that. You're the kind of people anyone would want to be friend with.
In a way, you are also part of my family. I listened to most of your albums since my 20s (I'm on the verge of my 50s). Glad to hear "To the stars" and "Inside Out" are your favourite albums, they're mine too. I can't believe Chick passed away. I saw him last year playing at Lyon's Auditorium (along with Steve Gadd and Lionel Loueke) and wouldn't have thought he was anywhere near the end of his life...
Just as you are grateful for having had the opportunity of playing with Chick, I'm grateful I heard of you and could follow you successive musical creations and evolutions. I need to pinch my cheek (corea ?) to make sure I'm not dreaming while watching this more than 2 hours long video.... Life can be incredible, really, I nearly have tears waiting to roll while you tell all your great anecdotes with chick and details showing how great a man he was (and you are too !). Luckily I could attend many concerts with Chick and you, including one as the Electric Band (I have fond memories of CTA playing during that one - I remember Chick still changing settings on a keyboard on the left hand, while playing with the right hand. Yes, the song had already started and there was no hiccup at all !).
Eager to hear the upcoming live album and also, Frank made me want to know more about Return to Forever.

I met Chick once when Dave played at Zanzibar blue in Philly on the same night that Chick was playing at the Kimmel Center. After Chick finished his gig he walked down the street to Zanzibar and sat in with Dave and me and my roommate (both music school students at UArts) were blown away by the occasion and after they were done they all came out to talk to everyone and my roommate was real bold and asked Chick if we could hang out with him and HE SAID YES! I nearly fainted. He said “for two UArts students I’ll do anything” and we literally just chit chatted with him for maybe half an hour and he was seriously the nicest sweetest guy. He was actually a real person, you know? He understood how much that meant to us and he lived up to our hopes in every way. For me personally, Chick has always been my favorite piano player of all time and I think I bought maybe 10 of his CDs in my freshman year alone.. so it was truly a “meeting your hero” moment for me (and I’m a drummer so it means something to me to respect a piano player so much when I hardly know how those weirdos think lol) (also ironically I’ve met like... 3(?) drummers who played with Chick... Weckl, Gadd, Haynes... so I feel an immense personal connection to that whole scene. Dave Weckl and Gene Krupa were my first and still my biggest drum hero’s... so yeah, I will never forget the time I hung out with Chick Corea and found out he was just as cool as I had always hoped. I feel a huge personal sense of loss with his passing. Chick is a huge part of me. RIP Chick.

You guys have pushed me to apply your philosophy in music that ended up me scoring music for Activision’s Transformers Fall of Cybertron & Madden (kind of a mish mash of orchestral, rock, epic hybrid which is totally not what you guys do) but I just wanted to thank you for always inspiring with your combined chops and musical abilities. I think you’re all amazing. Keep creating and shining. 🎉

Dear CCEB, I think you still haven't fully realized how important you are in our lives. You are the soundtrack of our lives and we know every single note that you played in each recording better than you! You still enlight our days and you made the world better. Thank!

I was a teenager when this band was put together in the mid-eighties; just a couple of years into drum lessons, school band, and garage bands. Chick's music, and the combination of you four cats was an absolute force to be reckoned with. It was so exciting yet so intimidating and scary.... part way through this video, I paused and watched the live footage of Got a match from 2004. I have been a professional musician now for decades, while I definitely understand the form and everything I'm hearing, I'm still baffled and intimidated. You guys make me sick! Bless you! Chick was extremely blessed to have you guys!

The Chick Corea Electrik Band gave another new way of music. The Maestro was a cool teacher, but He has the lucky to found 4 great students to going on with His project and these 4 students becames also 4 great teachers for all of us. In fact this is supported from the great music of your single career. Thank you also for this video that show us how the project came up.

There are so many great schools of jazz. Ellington, Armstrong, Blakey, Miles. This was the jazz school of our time, and the former students are now the teachers. The Corea school goes on, because the fearsome foursome of the jazz world is teaching the Corea way. We will all miss Chick, but the lessons are still being taught.

Thanks so much for this guys! It has been both touching and informative, and always entertaining but without getting too sobby. We all miss the Maestro enormously, and his passing has left a gaping hole, but enjoying his memory is the best way forward. Best wishes to you all.

When Masters become students again. Thanks for this. It took me 2 weeks to play it because i was just paralized by his death. I love the music you guys made. And with all the (tower of) inspiration you got from Chick and all the other folks you know, knew and played with, just continue the legacy please. All respect and all of the respct i can´t write down now! His spirit will continue AT LEAST for our lifetimes.
