Honestly, when I watched the video of you guys finding everything, I thought the bike was going to be a joke; I never would have thought that you (Colette) would have been excited about it. I am pleasantly surprised to see such a genuine smile over that bike. That is cool.
They are the funnest things in the world. They're a blast in winter time on the snow (not like they're going to see any snow, but hey). I've put so many hours on these things and they never ever get boring. Every minor change you make to the engine affects it's performance so it's super fun trying to squeeze every last bit of power you can. My top speed record is 49mph. Drifting these things in the winter is hands down the best thing ever lol
Make sure the head bolts are up to spec. Also run it wide open, cut the engine off and then stop and check the plug to see if it's rich or lean. You can get different jets to change the high end fuel ratio. Most important is the brake(s) are meant for a bicycle not a scooter. So make sure you get your front and rear brakes working.

Go old school chopper but neon. So the strait black with those classic hot rod red/orange flames. But go with a neon yellow base and neon orange/pink/purple flames on the gas tank. Get some new wheels that are over the top chrome along with some chrome sprockets and go rip it! In terms of the back, Make it moddable. Put a simple basket on it, then make it where you can have removable saddle bags on the back, and then go buy one of those child hauler trailers and then the sky is the limit! Have the doggos being trailered around, some light duty car parts to the different fab areas. What a sick little find you got there.
It’s a 2 stroke 80cc bike kit. Mine of the same kind can go up to 60 km/h (with some mods) I would recommend getting a new spark plug, exhaust, and fuel tank. Also down back on the left side of the engine is a little screw. If you turn that it changes fuel flow. If you play with that then you can keep it going with the clutch in.
Those 80cc bikes are fun! I upgraded by carb, ported my cylinder head, bought a finned head, new magneto, and an expansion exhaust. You could do 40 mph easily!
You had to be screaming at the screen! I was, Air up the tires first! Pop the clutch and pull it back in to keep it running, those dudes don't tell her anything like that, I give this shit show a thumbs down. Clueless, all of them. Lucky to get an old tight case sky hawk huh? Good engine for a China doll.

As far as I can tell, it seems the only brakes are praying. That would greatly increase the amount of excitement I would get from it. Moped > e-bike conversion
When you go to clean it up, try an SOS pad and believe it or not, just some regular old aluminum foil and the little bit of rust on those bars will come right off and likely look almost new. I brought back quite a few chrome bike frames that way when I was a kid.

Being from switzerland where once you turn 14 you can ride a moped (50ccm 2 stroke with top speed 40 kmph) generally speaking you want a 50 to 1 fuel oil ratio.
I've built a few 2 stroke bikes and I always recommend that you use seafoam regularly and it will run for a long time. Also, those carbs gum up a lot. I usually keep a few onhand. They are so cheap it's easier to replace then rebuild. Welcome to the club!
Dude, that thing is sweet! What a find! Seeing how both this bike and the Miata still run and look pretty good for not being used in years kind of shows that they've taken pretty good care of them i'm guessing.
Sounds like it's getting too much gas at full throttle. Maybe clean the carb and adjust/rejet it correctly. And as mentioned before, grab a moped exhaust and make it fit. Or start from scratch and make your own. There are a lot of great tutorials on this topic. Whenever you fit a new exhaust the carb needs readjustment. Most mopeds use the 1:50 or 1:40 ratio. And make sure it's oil designed for a 2-stroke.
You can buy performance parts for these too. Smaller sprockets and racing carbs and expansion chamber exhausts. You can make these things scoot right along. Lol I used to have one. Drove it everywhere 🤣
The little plunger on the top of the clutch lever is a lock. You can lock the lever back so you don't have to hold it, then you just pull the lever and it will release.
Always pour the gas in the tank before the oil because the oil sometimes will foul the sparkplug if it's not mixed with the gas you can put oil in a jug before the gas but not the gas tank
This is how I escalated into motorcycles lol I’m actually stoked to see how this little project turns out. BMX bars, some poly pedals, fresh chain and repaint and she’ll be a beaut!

Definitely change the spark plug on it. 2 strokes foul the plugs out easy especially with the amount of oil you guys put in 😂 I have 2 old SeaDoo XP PWCs and I change the plugs on them every season
The pin on the clutch lever should be able to push down and lock the clutch open, so you don't have to hold it when pedalling it. Give it a quick squeeze and it disengages the locking pin!
Those engine kits are like lego and have a million of different little upgrades and stuff that are super fun to mess around with. so for the bicycle paint job you should do neon yellow at the front and decreasing stripes till mid bike and the rest black. will help you practice not only painting but masking as well.
Oh as for the engine kit. if its the stock carb they tend to be boggy so you might want to think about buying a carb upgrade kit or larger carb. yes they are available.
I recently got a 90$ 80cc motor kit shipped from ebay, and a 98$ Huffy bike from walmart, and i been having the most fun ripping that thing up and down my local area with my friends, most fun i've had for under 200$ in a long time!
I bought the same kind of 60 cc engine kit and paid $120 for it. the bike sounds like it does need maintenance because it's puttering a lot which means it's not burning all the gas. but it's still not a bad find even though you probably would have been better off building one yourself so you knew what was put into it that way you can fix it without any issues. luckily there are a lot of TH-cam videos that can show you how to do all this.
Its most likely from the Grubbee website from back in the day. It has the stock carb, coil, plug wire, and rear sprocket. Thats an aftermarket exhaust. You can throw a mikuni vm18 carb on it, upgrade the coil and put a msd plug wire w/ngk(b6?) Rated plug and you'll get a lot more top end
Thats whats up! If i could change how i built mine, id go with a reed valve and a stuffed crankcase. Ended up maxing out my piston port timing, threw a window in the piston to help with it 4-stroking. And blew it up shortly after. Lol
Thats cool! An electric scooter would rip at the compound and the neighbors wont think you are clearing the wildlife lol. Plus just plug it in to charge.

She's hooked. I can already tell this is going to be your new favorite hobby.
As someone who builds these, they're much more fun to build then buy. Try it sometime, you won't regret it!
Rad! Thanks :) I’m excited to dig in and learn more about these things.
SO HYPED FOR THE BIKE!
ME TOOO!!!
Collette. Nice bike, you could also get a trailor to attach to the bike Instead of a basket?
