Hey Roger, i never comment on youtube videos, but i wanna thank you for your videos. 3 years ago or so, our sump pump burned out, and not having the money to fix it, i looked up what i could and found your channel. After some sweat (and holding my breath), i replaced it, and we could have the luxury of our toilet again. I must've watched 30 of your videos that night. Well, last week, I passed my journeyman test and have never been happier in my life with this profession. I can't express how much I and many others appreciate the knowledge and insight you bring and in the way you do it! You are an inspiration, Roger. Thank you.
Hey Roger glad to enjoy another one of your videos. I'm an HVAC tech and I'm here to tell you the swedging bit that you used is absolutely HVAC specific. I use that type of bit on a regular basis for braising connections. It's best when going from copper tubing to copper tubing without a separate fitting. Remember that HVAC uses ID measurement tubing vs plumbings OD measurement pipe. Keep up the great work, love your videos.
I hate this kind of swerving tools. The ones they use to sell at supply houses were so bad around here that they got a bad reputation for not expanding the pipe enough. Which brand do you use?
@ansemgoodin I bought mine at a HVAC supply in San Antonio TX. when the Hilmor brand first came on the market. I've actually been really happy with all of their hand tools, which I find are generally less expensive than Klein or Fluke. I haven't bought anything electronic from them so I couldn't attest to the quality on those.
I would have run the drill on speed 2… you may have tried off camera but even with a pump that isnt garbage speed 1 is sooo slow, i wouldn’t expect it to prime well at all.
I like how you're the kind of guy that says "I mean for $5 you might decide its nice just to have in case you need it" that's common sense and reasonable, not trashing it, just saying "i don't want it but i can see why someone might want to have it for emergencies and it's just $5"
With that first product. I like to keep a spare roll of that fiber strip for sealing showers and tiling. Giving the adhesive a substrate makes it much more durable.
Just found your videos and looking forward to watching more. Y’all are hilarious, love the background dudes just chirping in, makes me feel like I’m hanging out with my dad and uncles.
I bought a 100ft 1/4 jetter hose from Temu and it came with a few nozzles, 1 being a spinner. I used it with my little pressure washer, 3000 psi at 3 gpm, and it cleared 2 clogs in a 4" drain rather fast/easy with the regular nozzle, then I swapped to the spinner head and ran it down the line. This was in a commercial kitchen, so there was a lot of grease, but after the cleaning, camera showed the pipe was all clean. I was so excited about it, I upgraded to a 4000 psi and can do either 4 or 8 gpm, bought a 4 gpm warthog head and getting ready to test it on a 2" 3" and 4" drain that has grease on the walls to see how well it cleans it. I am trying to not have to use 8 gpm, as then I will likely need to carry a tank, since I know some places may not be able to supply that amount.
That last nozzle you showed is an incredibly useful tool for RV Black/Gray water tanks. Saves a ton of money over the long term by just running that little guy up once or twice a year and getting build-up off the walls of the tanks. Great find!
watching that drill set to "1" instead of "2" when trying to use that water pump was making me crazy. lol. It 100% needs the faster speed to pull the water. My dad loves setting "1" as well. lol
If you take the front cover off on that drill pump, you can lube it with some grease that creates a better air seal and also protects the impeller from wearing out.
I'm going to tell u.. the firts glue is just 3M DP190 rebranded, siringe is the same, plug is the same, even color and consistency. And trust me, the 3M DP1xx line is hella strong.
i work at a chem plant and we use hose barbs similar to the drill pump tips and we use zip ties and the fittings see alot of pressure. 3 zip ties will do just as good or better then the hose clamp
2:50 Can you do the same test but with a, cut in half, piece of pipe on top of the glue ? Of course clean, debur, degrease, make it fit nicely. That could in theory hold better than only the glue. Nice video!
Some drill pumps work better than others, it varies. But it can also be a speed issue with your drill, multiple speed drills tend to work better than single speed drills when using those pumps.
I have one of one of those drill pumps with much smaller tubing and it works like a champ for sucking transmission fluid out through the fill inlet and then I can easily measure it and replace the same amount without much effort.
Or the tubing expander, China makes everything in metric and labels it as the closest SAE measurement, so that may be why the 1/2in tubing didn't fit. That has also been a way to join exhaust tubing and many pole types.
You have to use high speed on the drill to get those pumps to work! We have 3 of them and one of slightly more expensive and of course it works better than the other 2.. but they all require me to use the number 2 and then free speed on my Milwaukees. They can actually work very well!
That grabby tool would be great for mechanics. Maybe to grab a clog in the tail. But you would have spent less time taking off and replacing that P trap 😂
Yeah I have never seen a step bit version. I personally have a hilmor swager I use all the time, but yeah the single size bits are great. Actually make the swage deep enough and don’t thin the copper too much
Even though I am not in plumbing business yer vids are dang helpful... We had some plumbing issues last winter and there was a video in your channel which helped me to figure things out.... Saved decent amount of bucks too :D
Mr. Wakefield , i noticed your chanell does not yet have over 1 million subscribers, that's not your fault, i blame youtube manipulations, they are doing their viewers a disservice, i was surprised, however i suspect it wont be long and we will see you will enjoy 1 Million pluss. Thanks for your well produced videos which are a service to the public.
I think you were using drill pump slightly wrong. I just used a home depot version for my job. Should lubricate with little oil first. Goes forward direction. Also drill needs to be on high speed #2, not 1.
the pump, you might want it started with a bucket of water 6 ft above level of lowest output end, just to start then hold the input hole until it's put into the actual liquid you want to pump.
16:30 I know that the hydro jetter attachments can work I bought one off of Amazon a few years back and it was an absolute lifesaver at the apartments that I worked at.
@RogerWakefield My favorite part of being an apprentice plumber is the strong job security the field offers, driven by the high demand for skilled professionals. The potential for competitive pay, combined with a relatively accessible training path through apprenticeships, makes it an appealing career choice. Hey Roger i have a question for you so I recently got pex installed and I was wondering what's the maximum PSI you can run at it and also is your way to turn your PSI up from the main and is it hard to do
Even when he thought he used it right he still used the drill pump the wrong direction the outlet is on the right and and the vacuum inlet was on the left ....i use these drill pumps all the time for gas oil and harmful oils like brake fluids and radiator fluids ....if you guys use these pump please dont mix oils or liquids....i bought several for diffrent fluids👋
I dabble in refrigeration 😂, n that swaging tool, would get me laughed at. I do want one and I had high hopes for it. Definitely wasn’t deep enough for me
Hello, great video! Im from germany and in the first clip you reached 2000 units. What are these units? PSI? You could put them in the video so ppl from the rest of the world could understand aswell: ty :)
The little drill pump things are very common here, almost every house has one, they are good for pumping stuff around, but you have to be carefull, usually they go in reverse on the drill, but you have to look for the arrow, because usually if you run it in reverse or run it dry for too long it tends to break. Also, put the drill into speed 2 and floor that thing if you want anything done.
Those hvac swaging tools are meant to heat the pipe. As you know, working with copper "work hardens" the metal, and these tools actually serve two functions. They swage the pipe and anneal it to remove any brittleness. You gotta watch that heat though and wear leather gloves because it will burn the ever loving crap out of your hand. Ask me how i know. 🤣 That cheap tool does appear to not swage deep enough though. I guess another 1/4 inch of material on each step would made it just way too expensive. If you wanna see how they supposed to look/work then look up rectum (i mean rector) seal pro fit or spin swage or any of the better brands. Youll notice that the better brands are not step bits but individual bits that go in at least a half inch to an inch or more depending on diameter. Hvac pipe is measured on the OD versus plumbing ID. Anyway, you gotta put your drill on high speed and go as fast and hard as you can until the pipe is smoking and itll finally go in and form a perfect swage/flare. Pretty nice tools.
Love the video, my only concern is using any kind of snake/cable without leather gloves, rubber and nitrate gloves are prone to getting caught in the cable possibly injuring yourself. Less experienced technicians might want to keep that in mind 🤷♂️
Those drill powered pumps are trash. I suggest one of those cheap battery powered pumps from Walmart or Harbor Freight. Its a "stick pump" that uses 2 D sized alkaline batteries, and are 10 bucks or less. I have two of them, I use one for water and one for gasoline. It FAR easier to use that little pump to fuel up my mower and ATV than picking up and dumping a big fuel can.
Damnit, it's "sWAYge", not "sWEDge". Always drives me nuts....along with "template"--"temPLIT", not "TEM-PLATE". Not sure how these mispronunciations became so common--"Template", I can see, by someone who read the word but never heard it spoken, but how the hell did "Swage" become "Swedge"?!
Im sadly gonna have to disagree with some of your ratings etc. its been mostly user error and also not knowing which applications each tool is meant for and what it isnt and what they are fully capable of 🤷🏻♂️

So I guess your comment is so special and rare? You “never comment”. We should bow to you.
I know I'm replying late but I'm assuming you didn't mean sump pump, because that shouldn't be tied to your toilets at all...

The swaging tool is for ACR copper which is thicker and measured not measured the same way as plumbing copper

That hydrojetter head looks like a fittings made mini-penetrator like something Drain Addict would use in a pinch.
I can definitely see him using it😂

with the pipe expander thing you should probably use some method of lubrication, even just water

6:30 You have meant to heat to orange and quickly cool the pipe before swagging (to soften it)
still the best plumbing videos ive ever watched 💪

@@RogerWakefield Nah it isn't... When you get to learn those things its easier :) and keep em videos coming too
Maybe I'm wrong but swedge is 100% accurate for what it's designed to do right the making something round is not what a swedge is designed for

Looks to me like it might be for creating a flare for flared compression fittings.
I bought a drill pump 25yrs ago and it didn't work either. TikTok didn't exhist back then.
16:30 I know that the hydro jetter attachments can work I bought one off of Amazon a few years back and it was an absolute lifesaver at the apartments that I worked at.

@ very true but didn’t expect it on this Chanel
Anyone hear Johnny Bravo when he talks? And now you can’t unhear it 😂

Your crakie crakei
"Strong tasting adhesive"
I think in the case of the pump it would be better to have it in 2nd I think it would benefit from faster RPM
I miss the videos where you would go to the job sites.
No hate... those transfer pumps will be ruined if run backwards. I don't think that was necessarily a good one to start with.
true, I think they aren't that good of quality either which also doesn't help...
Im a apprentice and your videos are a life saver

so the first product...is it not the same JB weld we've all been using on our busted up 4 wheelers and mowers etc for decades?
Seems like it is doesn't it? Lol

That's basically what is it 😂
@RogerWakefield yea as soon as I seen the color when you mixed it I figured it was just the same formula as JB weld
I have a name brand drill pump and it works great! Probably paid $10

Something as important as a ring I'd rather take the p-trap apart
shoulda tried speed 2 on the drill for item 3. im sure it still wouldn’t work well. but …
Also, there are other brands of expanders that donactually work. Most TikTok stuff is junk dollar store quality junk.
Can you use a shop vac to vacuum out the ring in your clear P trap? Thanks
Yes you can! The easiest thing would be to just take apart the p-trap
Do you have your drill in high torque? Try it in drill/ high speed
You should have lifted the bucket of water to get the siphon going.
I was trying to do a little as possible to help it out since it's advertised as being self priming..
Is anyone gonna tell him rhat the swagging tool is for HVAC and is brazed etc 🤭 😅
You really got a prime those crappy pumps first from what I understand
That's what I would think...but it's advertised as a self priming pump 😅 Have you used on like this?

yeah, these wont work under 1.5k RPM. 2-3k is what is recommended i think?
I've used one of those drill pumps for Transmission Fluid and it was really slow and would not prime, So maybe they are all garbage
Did you buy yours from TikTok too? 😂
How long do clear P-traps stay clear?
Depends on what you put in it
Snap on is trying to sell those crappy pumps. Why do they think a mechanic will buy a fluid pump and run it dry?
