Their tools are cheaper than any of those vices you mentioned. I have a Bauer brand 6ft locking tape measure that I carry everywhere. I purchased it at Harbor Freight for a whopping $1.99 plus tax more than 5 years ago. I have dropped it numerous times but it operates flawlessly to this day.
@niacal4nia, "Someone asked me why I don't quit drinking, I told em' I'm not a quitter!" 😁 Just busting your chops my friend. Keep On Keepin' On & Keep Your Head Up, Ya Dig? ++Peace, Funk & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul++ 🤘😜🤘
Magnetic trays are a life saver. I work on computers and sometimes I have 20 screws out and there are 5 slightly different lengths. Magnetic bowls let me keep them sorted.
Save yer money! I'm a fulltime toolmaker, and those HF transfer punches might be good for aluminum or mild steel, but not for tough (not hardened!) tool steel, the point goes away the first time!
Their woodworking clamps should be on everyone's list! Just like anything from HF, they may not be at the top of everyone's list as far as quality goes, but they have never let me down, and a guy can *never* have too many (or even enough) clamps! 💯
My personal favorite is the $9.95 Yellow Plastic Miter Box with Saw. I had to sell all of my expensive tools when I got old and down sized to a Condo. Needed one of these for small projects. I couldn't believe the accuracy of this for the price. The Saw alone is well worth the price. Also the small size allows simple storage in a drawer.
One of my best tools for sliver removal and knife sharpening is a jewelers eye lupe magnifiers. Set of 5, from 2x to 10x was $5 at HF. Even more useful now at 77 years.
Just the fact that you started the video catering to your viewers, going above and beyond linking items that are comperable from amazon, no begging. Instant subscriber and fan brother!!!
@@MakingStuffI have two HF within 12 miles of the house. But I generally just order everything on line. Can’t beat $6.99 flat rate shipping. Costs more gas than that to drive there. They shipped an order weighing 44 lbs for the flat rate. Can’t beat it
@@MakingStuff What? I've had HF ship to me in WA, which was a little annoying because that was the week there was a wild fire near their warehouse that delayed things.
My first use for the hook and pick set was to remove a splinter from my hand. They gave me the 4-in-1 screwdriver free at the register. I can vouch for the ongoing search for a 10mm socket. So many never leave the holder but the 10mm, 12mm, 9/19, 1/2, and 5/16 are always misplaced. I wouldn't mind a set of socket bars to gather each size in it's various configurations. I'm the kind of man who likes all his hand tools on a wall for easy access within arm's reach.
Great video. The fact that you explained not only the reason you like the tools, but also how they are used was very helpful. HF should sponsor you because you clearly make the most of their products.
My favorite HF stuff is The free 5 gallon buckets The 4 in one screwdriver The cyclone dust separator I didn't know about the angle grinder tool. I'll have to grab one.
HF has a telescoping pen style tool with a round magnet on the end. SUPER useful for picking up small screws/nuts etc that have fallen on the floor, rolled under a workbench etc. Great addition to any shop.
I use that pick set all the time at the wood lathe. They are great for picking out pieces of bark or other wood slivers that have come loose. They are also great for making sure that CA glue or epoxy gets down into any cracks or crevices that you are using them to fill. As long as you wipe them off before things dry they keep working great year after year.
Love love love the magnetic strip. It was 1.99 during the black Friday sale. It may be $4.99 now but still worth it. It is very strong. Holds up my multi tools, pliers, pruners, even strong enough for a small hammer and my staple gun. Highly recommended.
I bought the $20 Warrior angle grinder a couple of years ago (it is one model "better" than the $10 version you cite). I haven't had much use for it but it seems to work fine.
The ten dollar grinders like to spit metal out of the motor at you. The red Bauer when they are on sale are nicer than my fifty dollar Makita. I keep three grinders loaded. One thin .cutter, one grinder and a flap attack😂.. They were less than 20 on sale
Along with the magnetic trays, I have found that I love the US General Flexible Parts trays for automotive and other project work. Don't have to worry about scratching a finish on anything and I can keep various fasteners together but sorted.
I used to work at harbor freight and yes it's hit and miss with their tools. If you need it for one job or rare use, great, better than spending 10X the price for quality that never gets used. As a general rule the fewer moving parts, the safer the buy.
Enjoyed your video and I have also purchased most of the tools featured from HF. As a non-professional weekend DIYIer who enjoys taking on many different projects for the fun of it as well as saving a few dollars here and there, I would say the BEST and most VERSITLE tool I ever purchased at HF for under $20 is an oscillating tool. Granted, the tool does not include the blade attachments which does push the price a bit over $20 however, I do believe that it has become the most versatile tool I own and is very easy to master with a little practice. Furthermore, you can also purchase a very inexpensive metal file set at HF and sharpen the the blade attachments yourself when they do get dull. As far as power tools go, it's also relatively safe to operate as long as it's used properly and it allows all sorts of work to be done on things in very close quarters where safety and a certain degree of precision is required. I did not purchase one of the "top of the line" models as I'm not depending on the tool for everyday professional use and I feel that if used properly it will function just fine for my intended uses for a long period of time.
I wish I had watched your video before I replaced a headlight a few days ago. I needed a long 10mm socket and that 10mm socket set would have been perfect. I had no idea that an adjustable pin wrench existed either. That's definitely going on my shopping list.
Wow...I've been addicted to HF for some time but never knew about the adjustible wrench for angle grinders. Even if you have the same brand (as I do, having purchased several on sale and even gotten a couple for free) but different years, the hole pattern changes and it's one of the most irritating things in the shop to not be able to easily replace a worn cutoff wheel mid-job because of a stupid millimeter difference. Also -- I never buy the 4" or 6" magnetic trays; they come up for free on sales a few times a year.
Nice list, agree with the 10mm set, so handy. Me and GaryMucher will be heading out for the transfer punch set. Have always had one at work and love them, didn't know there was an inexpensive HF version, thanks for the head's up!
Great video, huge HF fan here! I have all you suggested except for the transfer punch set, great suggestion, will have to get that. Just bought their green handled Pittsburgh automatic wire strippers this week after I saw someone recommend them on a video here, they’re great. There are so many more I own and would recommend but you’re doing a great job 👏🏼👍🏼
Re: the hinge. The best tool is a Vix bit. That said, I've had my transfer punch set (though not Harbor Freight) for over 25 years and it is indispensable in both the wood shop and the metal shop.
I like the adjustable spanner. Thanks for reminding me they have it. Also, double hits on wood is fine, but a bad habit, because if you hit twice on metal, you WILL break the tip off. You must rotate the punch after the first hit to free the tip that becomes imbedded into the metal. Thanks for the video!
There is a large pair of forceps that harbor freight sells only a couple dollars great for grabbing small PCs in hard to reach place as well as a pick-up magnet (antenna style) that is great to have if you happen to drop a nut/bolt or washer. For a few dollars 👍
The cheap (purple ) HVLP spray gun is a good painter for the majority of us. Their $1.99 plastic calipers are in every tool bag/box I have, incredibly handy. The 3/8” composite ratchet is also a winner, nothing worse than polished stainless with greasy hands.
I just got a 3 pack of Pittsburgh (lifetime warranty ) stubby ratchets for $9.99 . I put them in my truck toolbox and will be going to get another set for my car.
I used to be such a tool snob it wasn't funny. If it wasn't Snap On, Mac, or Craftsman, it was junk. I'm retired now and have been buying from Harbor Freight on a regular basis. I have all the basic tool the average homeowner would need, but I've bought Sanders, disc grinders, a slide hammer and other things and have been pretty happy with everything I've bought. That's become one of my favorite stores.
PS. FYI you do not need a wrench to remove a disc from a small angle grinder. Just hold the blade lock and give the blade a firm twist. Been doing it this way for 20 plus years and it works perfectly.
I got so many Doyle and Icon pliers last week with 30% off under $20. Also the 4 in 1 screwdrivers are free about 4 times a year, just keep an eye out.
The cheap picks work just fine, no reason to spend $18 more for the icon. The flipping screw driver will rust solid. I never use a wrench in the grinding disc unless it’s a 9” grinder, no need on 4-5”. The transfer punch are a great time saver and helps greatly with accuracy, just don’t use them to make a deep punch mark, just a light mark is all that is needed. The locking pliers are ok but the release isn’t the best. Great if you want to weld onto them for custom applications. I just bought the 10mm set, it’s a great addition to the tool box. One of the best purchases. Now if only one could buy every size of sockets in sets like that. I have the magnetic trays all over the place, just got one of the silicone trays, it needs a magnet too.
I would add a suction-cup tipped, pistol grip grabber tool. Really handy for us "mature" individuals who can't bend or stoop as easily as we used to. I use one outdoors very frequently to pick up trash that's blown into the yard and twigs and branches that fell off trees. Gonna buy a second one strictly for indoor use.
We have several, inside and out. When the screw on the suction cup loosens and you lose it under a prickly bush, bottle caps are good replacements for outside. I have lots of sticks to pick up every time I mow the grass. I take my grabber tool and drag a tarp around the yard, collecting branches fallen from my trees.
The 12.99 harbor freight fuel pump. That takes 2 D cell batteries mine is used every week and sometimes more than once a week for putting gas in cars, 4-wheeler, lawn mower and the like. I buy gas in bulk because we have a town that's about 30miles away and it's been as much as 50cents cheaper some weeks so I have a bunch of gas cans and run over there to buy gas and use the pump to pump it out into anything needing gas or diesel
I really really really wish they made 8mm and 12mm versions of the essential socket sets. If you have a pressure washer their stubby gun is a must-have upgrade, I think it's $25 which if so means it often can be had under $20 during sales. I really like the Quinn ratchets, best compromise for me between junky and overpriced, and they don't turn the "wrong" way like the Pittsburgh. Most of my hand tools are old Craftsman from '80's and '90's and HF's midgrade brands are usually in line with them for quality. A lot of Icon is getting borderline overpriced for a basic home user like me but they have a set of Icon extra-long 1/4", 3/8" extensions which at around twenty bucks with their occasional 30%/40%-off coupons is super nice to have, very nice quality and it sure beats linking your five other extensions together to get the reach.
Hello Making Stuff I just found your channel and subscribed. The only thing I can think of to add to your list. The silicone trays from Harbor Freight. I don't know the prices. They range in sizes. Thank you 😊
The Pittsburgh 4-in-1 Screwdriver has a P.O.S. handle! Those blue dimples come off after a time, and they go freakin' EVERYWHERE! I could not throw it away fast enough!
Good rule of thumb: If it involves strength, precision or safety...stay far away from Horrid Freight. All the things you picked manage to avoid that criteria, and are all good picks (Especially the picks! :D)- I even own some of these products! I'm a maker too, and now I'm going to go make...just hope the terlit doesn't overflow!
Slight correction. At 4:50 you stated that "its impossible to use this wrench for this nut". You can actually just put one post in one hole and rest the other post on the outside of the nut and it will loosen, or tighten depending on the way you place the posts.
another one that I swear by having around is those drill operated Pumps boy do they come in handy and they have 3/4” Hose Barb fittings on then so you can use a regular Garden hose for a pickup or discharge hose I’ve used them to transfer. Fuel ,Oil and Even to empty clogged dirty Toilet water IMO they are so inexpensive they can be a one use Disposable Item You just never know when you might need to transfer any Liquid from one place to another I actually buy them and put them in various Tool boxes to have I’ve owned Several RVs ,TravelTrailers and Motor Boats I’ve used those pumps to create a Siphon to drain bilge water and holding tanks that had clogged Outlet fittings Allowing me to Travel back home. With Empty tanks that were much easier to replace the faulty drain fittings
If you didn't get the end of the video, then you fast forward too much. LOL!

Hello Making Stuff
I just found your channel and subscribed. The only thing I can think of to add to your list. The silicone trays from Harbor Freight. I don't know the prices. They range in sizes.
Thank you 😊
I'm in Canada and I think Princess Auto is the closest to HF, I'm heading there now!!
Thanks for watching!
I have all these items except the welding clamps. Quite often you can get the 6 in 1 screwdriver on a freebie coupon.
Good call, thanks for watching!
The Pittsburgh 4-in-1 Screwdriver has a P.O.S. handle! Those blue dimples come off after a time, and they go freakin' EVERYWHERE! I could not throw it away fast enough!
They have a cheaper locking C clamp for about $7.99, the are a great substitute to the $40.00 Kreg brand for pocket holes.
Pittsburgh quick release bar clamps weren't on the list?! They also have a lifetime warranty
Great list.
Thanks!
You can order from Harbor Freight online although some items are in store only.
10 mm socket set currently on Inside Track Sale for 9.99 until 12/5 (in my store, I assume good at all their stores)
Thanks for letting us know!
Duct tape & razor knife, a must have.
Allan Wrench Set, tee handle style with ball allan on one end, metric and SAE. "New Product", just saw and bought them last week...
Yeah, I saw the new tool alert. I'll have to check them out.
