  • In this video, Joe shows users how to perform a factory default for a Kwikset Z-Wave Lock. Performing a factory reset will restore all the lock settings to their factory default values. You will need to reconfigure and reprogram the device from scratch. Keep this in mind before performing a default.
    There are a few different situations in which you might want to factory default your Z-Wave lock. If you are taking over the lock from someone else, you might want to perform a factory default so that you are starting with fresh settings. You might also perform a factory default as a troubleshooting step if the lock is not performing correctly. However, it is usually done as a last resort only.
    Once you perform a factory default, the action cannot be undone or reversed. Any added user codes will be deleted. The Master User Code for the lock will be reset to its factory default. Any Z-Wave settings will be cleared. You will need to go and re-add the lock to a Z-Wave network. Please note that you will most likely have to clear the lock before you can enroll it successfully.
    In order to get full functionality out of the lock, you will want to re-add it to a Z-Wave network. This is done by putting the Z-Wave controller or hub into its inclusion mode and then activating the enrollment function for the lock. Remember to clear the lock from the network before doing this. The controller or hub should acknowledge that a new device has been added.
    Pairing the lock with a Z-Wave network is a necessary step for controlling it remotely. Most Z-Wave hubs are associated with some application so that the user can control the connected Z-Wave devices remotely. For alarm systems doubling as Z-Wave controllers, this is often an interactive service platform like Alarm.com or Total Connect 2.0. The user will be able to access the app on their smartphone to control their Z-Wave lock.

    I have a 915 and I bought a z-wave plus to plug into it so I can connect it to my smart home system - 1) Will that work? and 2) when I try to default my lock it never pushes out the deadbolt to complete the handing process, it just pulls it in tighter, flashes green and beeps over and over without ever stopping. What should I do?

      HI Berghy, (1) If using Just a plug it will not work. You would need a Zwave controller of some sort (i.e. a Security panel with Z-Wave or another Controller module). (2), If handing the lock does not work, confirm the deadbolt freely turns back and forth, if not you may need to realign the locking and unlocking positions of the bolt itself.

    I have completed the factory reset.
    Please add a video how to reprogram after a factory reset. I have tried the 0-0-0-0 but then it flashes 4 diamond shaped numbers with three beeps.

      I will relay request to content team. When setting up in programming make sure the door is opened and unlocked.

    Didn’t work for me. I moved into a home with a 909 or 910 model. Tried this process, and the lock just does a loud beeping when I put the battery back in

      Joseph, the process for defaulting the Kwikset Z-Wave locks is pretty universal, and is as seen in this video. Are you sure all your batteries are inserted correctly, as far as polarity is concerned? It is relatively easy to get one of them backward, and that will cause some weird issues with the lock. Also, though the process is pretty much the same for all of the Kwikset locks, what you'll see on your lock will differ from the lock shown in this video. According to the Kwikset 909 Install guide, after you press and hold the program button while inserting the battery pack, continue to hold the button for approximately 30 seconds until you hear a beep and the status LED flashes red. Release, press, then release the program button again. When the Green LED flashes on the lock and you hear a single beep, the lock is reset.

    I moved into a house that had vivint. The locks are 888. They don’t turn on at all. Is there a way for me to use them without having vivint?

    • @AlarmGrid
      @AlarmGrid  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you sure the batteries are good, and are all installed correctly? I ask this because I put one of the four batteries in my Kwikset lock backward once and all kinds of weird behavior happened. The information provided on the Vivint site makes it appear that the Kwikset locks they sell are proprietary, but that could just be because they want to give that impression. I found some information that shows that some locks sold by Vivint have an Anti-Theft Feature that you can enable. If you enable this feature, then remove the Vivint panel without first excluding the Z-Wave lock from it, then the lock is tied to the Vivint panel and can't be paired with any other Z-Wave controller. If you still have access to the Vivint panel, try removing (excluding) the lock from the panel, then see if you can pair it with a different Z-Wave controller. I believe short of asking Vivint if it can be done, trial and error is the only way to get a true answer to your question. Good luck, I hope it works out in your favor. I really dislike proprietary equipment for this reason. If you are looking to replace the Vivint panel, or to get your own panel (if the old owner took theirs) we sell a variety of Z-Wave capable systems.

    Hello, I forgot the master code, the orientation of the lock is restored, but the codes are not deleted, what can I do?

    • @joshuagriffin2807
      @joshuagriffin2807 ปีที่แล้ว

      A factory reset will delete all codes associated with the lock.
      1. Make sure the door is open and unlocked.
      2. Press and hold the program button for 30 seconds using the SmartKey tool or a paper clip. You will hear one long beep.
      3. Press and release the program button. You will hear one short beep.
      4. Test with an existing User code, the lock should not work.

    Can the lock be used without the z-wave module?

    • @freddaniels8259

      Sure, you can program codes locally and use as a standalone lock.

      @@freddaniels8259 Thanks. I thought that as well but tried and if I pull the zwave module on mine it won't seem to lock. Gives an error and 13579. I'm moving from my house and wanted to use the zwave module in another lock that i own.

    Does this work on a 915

    • @AlarmGrid
      @AlarmGrid  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Since it will go through the handing process after defaulting, it is a good idea to have your door OPEN when you do this.

  • @brycecolegrove280
    @brycecolegrove280 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I tried this on my lock and the rehandling process didn’t occur after I did those steps? Any thoughts? I’m also still unable to sync the lock to my phone.

    • @AlarmGrid
      @AlarmGrid  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      After defaulting, you'll have to perform the steps for handing separately. This usually includes removing the batteries, putting them back in (while the door is open) and then allowing it to go through the handing process. If this doesn't seem to happen, make sure all your batteries are inserted with the polarity correct. If even one of them is inserted incorrectly, it will cause issues. Beyond that, I would contact Kwikset, or the dealer you bought the lock from.

      They changed the process for different locks. Best thing to do is to check for the procedure for your specific lock.

    • @freddaniels8259

      Zwave locks must go through a zwave controller. They do not pair directly with a phone. To operate your phone depends on how that controller is operated.

    Worst product I’ve ever owned. Trying to reset from the app because I’m out of state, bolt won’t release and there’s no way for my friend to get in house to feed cats. This thing had to fail when I drive 12 hours out of state. Will never buy Krapset again

      Kwikset Z-Wave locks cannot be reset or defaulted remotely. It has to be done at the lock. If you were unable to control remotely, there are many possible issues could be the cause. Your alarm dealer will be able to help diagnose.
