    Thanks so much! Your tutorial worked perfectly!

    Called customer support and the fix is simple, you can not rotate the shaft by hand. Place the cover over the housing and twist the thumb knob 180 degrees, it will turn with little resistance. Then it should be orientated correctly for installation, there is no need to disassemble the body of the lock.

    I had the exact same problem and inserted the Key pin with the key and turned it. I don't know what I did but I got it to work without taking it apart.

    It is not necessary to do this; for this model, assemble it, before you put battery back in, just hold the lock push button on the outside. Once battery pack goes in, release the lock push pad, and the lock will figure out orientation. I had to move this lock twice in my house at different times to different doors, and each time I had this problem. Maybe they can improve the manufacturing?

    You didn't even do the door handing process. I installed 20 of these on the same day and they were all in Different positions. After the door handing process they all corrected themselves because that's what the process does it teaches your lock the orientation of your door and is CRUCIAL TO LOCK OPERATION. I don't believe non of this is necessary unless maybe the door handing process don't work. I believe another person mentioned the same thing in the comments. Do the door handing process before this.

      This comment saved me a huge amount of time! Yes, just follow this video to complete the handing process which resets the motor position in relation to the deadbolt position: th-cam.com/video/PxzEfp6_CrM/w-d-xo.html

      He had the problem BEFORE the door handling process step 6

    Wonder if the factory reset would fix it. Instruction warns of setting things up in right sequence before inserting batteries for the first time so to learn the orientation. Mine did something similar and somehow the clutch activated and corrected itself, or was it that I factory reset it?

    The locking bolt you took apart has a spring clutch in it. That's what that assembly on the front of the triangle bolt is, with the springs and two small metal cylinders. If you place the deadbolt cover over the entire electronics assembly you can turn the bolt past its stopping point, it will click into a new position, and get it to the inverted side without having to disassemble it. You aren't supposed to disassemble it. Good way to break your lock though. Contact Kwikset first before overengineering a solution to a simple problem.

      Patrick Snyder trust me I contacted them and this was their solution or send it back to them. I had no time sending back so did it this way. It’s been working great ever since. Didn’t break anything or I wouldn’t have posted the video.

      That works

    • @huffyshuffle
      @huffyshuffle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I bought 4 of these and each had the triangle upside down but was easily able to right side it the way the instructions indicated by putting it together and letting the system go through the initial process.

    Not knocking your video, but there is no way I’m tearing that thing apart. Mine was 180° off, and just had to reprogram it manually. Works perfectly.

      Ah maybe you are right. I followed what they recommended me to do

  • @ldeporto
    @ldeporto 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    None of this needs to be done. The manual door handling process needs to be performed and then the lock will perform correctly. Watch a TH-cam video named "SmartCode 915 & 916 Manual Door Handling Process". Also make sure you are using fresh batteries for this process!

    • @HowToDoitright
      @HowToDoitright  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried that and it did not work for me. I even called them but no luck so endup doing this way.

      @@HowToDoitright That's too bad, mine looked exactly as yours did and that's all I needed to do. You got the job done sorry it took so much to do it. Thanks for the video.

      That is correct, at least with the new models.....it tells you in the instruction to force it with the interior cover (a hard click) then the door handling step takes care of the alignment and leave it smooth...

  • @2Daniros

    I had the same issue and when I called to customer service, they guy told me that use force and turn it into the right position. It will not break. I did it without break it down.

    Thank you for showing the inside parts of the lock. My 914 Zigbee lock doesn’t work with Ring Alarm System (support Z-Wav only), if the small Zigbee board you removed at 3:50 be replaced with Z-Wav board, would it work with Ring? Or the big board at 4:28 has to be replaced too?
    Thanks

    Best solution….AVOID THIS NIGHTMARE LOCK! I have had nothing but problems with it and once again I find myself going down the TH-cam rabbit hole to try and fix my expensive lock. When I’m does actually work, it kills batterie. I grew tired of going to Costco and buying bulk batteries so I bought rechargeable ones. NOPE! Kills those even faster. Avoid this stupid lock!

    • @HowToDoitright
      @HowToDoitright  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You must have an outlier. Check battery voltage before putting in. I was having a similar problem with batteries and I found out that even my new batteries weren’t good. When I measured them they were not good. I then switched to rechargeable ones and that solved my issue. The voltage on those was good and now it last me good. Also if your lock is not lubricated properly it will draw a lot of amp and kill the battery. Make sure you don’t have any resistance in the lock and it’s freely moving. Also make sure you get highest milliamp hour batteries as those will last longer than lower mah.

    The lock was setup wrong. The dead bolt was installed upside down or duringing setup the proper procedure was performed incorrectly. Somehow the setup made it as if the dead bolt is on the the otherside, the left side of the door, where as this is on the right hand. This video is not accurate.

    • @georgesica8532

      My is pointing up as the directions read. The instructions is missing a critical note that the dead bolt needs to be extended out before the battery is inserted.

    This is not how to fix this, you didn't even change anything in the video.

    • @HowToDoitright

      Fixing doesn’t mean always change something. Sometimes it just needs minor adjustments
