    You really should wear a mask cutting fiber glass. The dust will not do your lungs any good. Also good eye protection is required.

    Panel bond. That should connect the body to the frame. And expanding foam for the gaps.

    I am doing the exactly the same thing...but with an Aston Martin DB5 fiberglass body and a BMW Z3 unibody chassis. Following you guys closely for ideas and the overall process. Cheers

      Sounds good mate, you got anything on social media of it?

    • @ryale7174
      @ryale7174 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@andirt4 I do not do any social media...dislike it intensely. However my family has encouraged me to document the entire build. Perhaps my kids will help out with that LOL. At this point I have stripped down the Z3 so that the bare unibody, suspension, steering, brakes are only there. I am using an inline six Jaguar XK 4.2 from a mid 60s Jaguar 420....since it really looks like an AM inline engine...triple SU on the same side and polished DOHC covers, etc...but the distributor is in a different place and of course it is an cast iron block vs alloy. I work alone so I need to figure out a pulley system for the body to drop it down carefully and lift it as I cut away the unibody that I do not need. However...watching this project has given me some great ideas to use as well as pitfalls to avoid. All the best and cheers from Canada.

      Wow. Great project ! The DB5 is superb ! I had a Lancia Flaminia Touring coupe that use the same bodyframe than the Aston Martin DB4 to DB6. Superleggera. I agree that the 6 inline motor of Jaguar 50/60's was very close than the AM motor of that period. I didn't known that there is a replica of the DB5 ! If you have a YT channel, don 't hesitate to share.

    Nice progress, always that "paint yourself into a corner" moment with any project! Good solution, I would have tried to make the rear subframe a bolt-on removable type but as it is locating the rest of the trunk metal your way is probably best. Very much enjoy your videos and you fellows work great together. Cheers

  • @ellinaras75
    @ellinaras75 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Just a thought - might be a good idea to use smaller diameter tubes in the rear section (the one beyond the SLK body) to create a crumple zone. I noticed my tubular Gallardo had smaller tubes for that reason at the rear. If the full strength tube is running all across even in a small rear end collision you are going to experience enormous Gs.

    That's pretty good bar work, particularly for a newb. May I suggest adding each side at the front hoop forward and horizontal one straight piece to each of the two top engine bay rails/members. That would improve chassis integrity and cage effectiveness.

      Mercedes can pound sand. If you were up against the wall, you could remove the accents over the wheel arches, and remove the hood ribs, making it "distinctive and different ".
