Mr. Kavakos is undoubtedly one of the best violinists of the past three decades. Here he plays the last movement at the fastest tempo, good or bad, that I have ever heard, and it is interesting to see the Munich musicians valiantly keeping up with the tempo on their own listening to the solo sound while Gergiev's bare hand beat is fuzzy and not in keeping with the soloist. Bravo.

@@Paroles_et_Musique At first I thought it was the violin , as I was listening nor watching, till I saw the bow go not that straight, and sometimes jumping on the strings, and him missing a couple of notes. But what's insane, is that regardless the poor playing, it's still enjoyable, and has a soul. I think he was angry for some reason, not focused and troubled, his playing was harsh

Does Gergiev suffer from Parkinson's disease or a similar
malady? I don't see how orchestras follow his fluttering
hand gyrations...or maybe they don't even try. Thankfully,
long-standing, professional orchestras can, on balance,
play in synch without someone "beating time". Whenever
Gergiev is on the podium, I wonder if that is what they're doing...

I don't get what all the finger-flutter is about either. At least he's giving the orchestra their entry cues, and that's really what's most important in performance: somebody saying "now".
