Donkey Kong first arrived in the arcades in 1981 as the game that Shigeru Miyamoto designed to replace the ill-fated arcade game Radar Scope. It featured a mustachioed man in brightly colored overalls who would go on to achieve monumental fame and bring Nintendo a lot of fortune. Originally he was simply called Jumpman and was labeled a carpenter, he was eventually named Mario and identified as a plumber.
When Donkey Kong became popular, Atari sought to buy the home rights to the game. But at that time, Coleco bid for the rights as well when trying to snag a killer launch title for their soon to be released ColecoVision. Coleco got the home cartridge rights while Atari ended up with the computer diskette rights. This arrangement worked out well until it backfired at the 1983 CES show, where Coleco presented their enhanced version of Donkey Kong for the Coleco ADAM computer. Atari, upset over the apparent breach of contract, ordered Nintendo to make Coleco shut down the display.
When the Famicom launched in 1983, Nintendo provided their three biggest arcade hits as launch titles. Donkey Kong was an obvious choice. The Famicom conversion is a very close port of the original game with only minimally altered graphics, but sadly featuring the omission of the conveyor belt stage. Despite the missing stage, the remaining three stages make it in tact, and provide all of the same challenges found the arcade version. - เกม
That MS-DOS version of Donkey Kong is the stuff of nightmares.
You know how a camera flash causes you to have a blind spot? Imagine my eyes after playing this about 30 times trying to get the perfect clip for this video. lol The things I go through for you guys ! lol
For some reason, Donkey Kong in that version makes me think of a pink Sullivan from Monsters Inc.
All early DOS games looked and played terrible compared to almost every console and most computers of the time.

After watching the old comparison video years ago, I tried searching it up again and come across this.
Oh my god that final one was legitimately the NES game, but with the screen oriented on its side. That's nuts. I only realized it when I saw everything flickering from top to bottom and not left to right. It's crazy how at the start of the NES' life cycle that NES port along with the other launch title arcade ports were so basic and then by the end of it there was Kirby's Adventure
The flicker probably could have been minimized if The barrel stack & Pauline would have been used as background tiles instead of sprites. Just a thought.
It's kind of shocking how good the Amstrad version looks. Most of what I've seen of Amstrad games (from British TH-camrs, I'm an American and never owned one) has been lousy ports of Spectrum games, but here we've got a conversion that outdoes most of its contemporaries when it comes to including all the levels, animations, and little touches from the arcade version.

I LOVED the C64 (Nintendo) and Amstrad version. With both being a close second, you know you gotta go with the classic Arcade. I love all 3 versions either way. :)

My recommendation on the old video on my old deleted account is finally coming full circle!
I always wondered why the Atari 7800 version had worse sound than the Atari 2600 version. The two systems had the same audio hardware, wouldn't it have made sense to just port over the sounds from the 2600 version?
The 2600 version was made by Coleco. The 7800 version was produced by Atari. But seeing what the home brewers were able to do it looks as if Atari applied the same strategy they were always known for. Just pushing half finished crap out the door.
That Intellivision remake looks great. Would have blown some minds, back in the day!

Not gonna lie, I have an Arcade Archives version (not shown here) on my brother's Switch. It sure as hell has been a lot fun to play and I actually enjoy it an awful lot.

That Nintendo Switch version that you didn't show is the best handheld version of the game since it's the arcade version. I've had it on my Switch for over 5 years now.
The funkiest version is the Atari 7800 version with its smart fireballs that run away when Mario has the hammer. It's droll to see.
